The many components to euphoria pale at the one main cause. You.

Summary:

Day 29- Nature + “Head scratches”

Canon Damien and Canon Huxley: They both swear that Huxley couldn’t be more at peace in the moment he’s in. Some of those feelings get to Damien.
__

Damien opened his eyes and kept his head down.

He was definitely feeling some of Huxley’s imperturbation. No. He was feeling all of it.

He looked back up at Huxley and smiled softly, reaching up so he could tap his cheek gently. Huxley opened his eyes and looked down at Damien, humming in faint surprise when Damien gently tugged in the strings of his hoodie so he would bend down to give him a kiss.

Work Text:

Huxley swore he had never been more at peace before.

There was just something about resting on the ground, yet his head was completely in the clouds in his euphoria.

He had Damien in his arms, the earth underneath him, Lasko’s breeze tickling his face gently, the heat of Damien’s fire keeping them warm, the feelings Gavin twisted spreading through his veins, and the Freelancer’s little splatters of raindrops gently hitting his cheeks.

He may have been outside, but he felt more at home in the rainy and dewy nature than he ever would in any normal old house.

Damien looked up at him for a second, and Huxley could feel the warmth coming from his gaze.

“Is something wrong, Dames?” Damien just smiled at him and shook his head. “Okay, you’re just looking at me kind of funny.”

“I’m looking at you with all the love in my body.” He playfully rolled his eyes and put his head back down on Huxley’s chest. “You just seem very…at peace with your life. And I’m honored that I get to be here to see that.”

Huxley reached up and ran his fingers through Damien’s hair, twisting the strands around his fingers gently before he traced his fingers through Damien’s scalp, scratching it gently.

Damien sighed and melted into his touch, making Huxley’s heart flip in his chest.

Such ideal serenity was rarely ever accomplished, and Huxley knew he was glad to have been able to feel the way he did in that moment.

He listened to the love of his life’s breathing slow until it was nothing but gentle breaths of calm against the sprinkle of precipitation. He felt his boyfriend squirm and shift slightly, trying to rest his head higher up Huxley’s body so he could reach the same level of peace.

Euphoria was the only word he could use to describe how he felt.

Huxley for once was able to just sit back and appreciate how he felt, instead of instinctively worrying about how other people felt around him.

It was nice worrying about himself for once.

After having experienced such true tranquility, he knew he would hold onto that feeling. It would slip through his fingers like silt, and that would be fine.

He would just have to do the same thing he was doing and experience that feeling differently every time.

He just wanted Damien to be there for it all.

And maybe that was wishful thinking. Maybe that was unrealistic. But he didn’t care. He only wanted to have his boyfriend beside him in his best moments, knowing that he would only make every moment better.

“We should do this more often.” Huxley mumbled, gently scratching Damien’s head still.

Damien snorted quietly. “Often, that way you aren’t sucking this feeling dry.” He said quietly. Huxley hummed.

“Feelings don’t dry, Dames. They aren’t a song that you play until you get tired of it.” Damien looked up at him and tilted his head. “They don’t get old. Because every time you feel it, you don’t worry about feeling happy too much. You don’t think. You just feel.”

He smiled and closed his eyes, pressing his warm cheek against Huxley’s chest. “And you say you’re not good with words.”

“I-I’m not. I just say what comes to mind.” Huxley blushed.

“Well then you have very pretty thoughts.” Damien mumbled, opening his eyes so he could enjoy the way Huxley’s cheeks flushed and he reached up to scratch the back of his neck gently. Damien hummed in satisfaction and turned his head back the way it was.

“Th-thanks, Dames.” Damien tapped his stomach rhythmically, following after the pitter-patter of the raindrops against the grass.

They would definitely have to take a shower, even if it wasn’t raining so heavily.

“You’re welcome.”

“N-no I don’t mean for the compliment. We-well yes I mean the compliment of course-! But I mean…thank you for making me feel this way.”

“Well I’m kind of just laying here, so you’re welcome I guess?” Damien smiled, and Huxley just gave him a playfully pointed look, even though he couldn’t see it. Damien chuckled, he could definitely feel it.

“That’s all you have to do, dude.” Huxley admitted, looking back up at the sky and closing his eyes so the raindrops wouldn’t hit his eyes. He wasn’t going to let his brain mistake them for tears anymore. “Just you being next to me, or on top of me,” He smiled teasingly, “Is enough. You’re enough.”

There was a still in the gentle storm.

They were the stillness.
