golden hour

Summary:

Namjoon and Yoongi go on a trip to San Francisco.

Notes:

I have no idea where this came from!!! I didn't expect to write for this verse again (also you can read this as a standalone fic!) but I'm pretty sure I saw "kiss cam" on my twitter timeline and somehow formulated this whole idea, and, anyway, an hour later, here I am<3

title from "golden hour" by JVKE which I listened to when writing this AND it's also kind of a cute pun to go along with "golden state warriors," haha get it :]

anyway this is so so silly I mean that but I hope you enjoy !!!!!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Namjoon knew Yoongi would like the gift, but he admits he didn’t realize he was apparently giving Yoongi a gift Namjoon could never top after this.

“You got me courtside tickets? For the Warriors?”

Namjoon smiles. “Yeah?”

The Golden State Warriors?

“Yes, that’s them. Your favorite team, right? I don’t know anything about basketball, hyung,” Namjoon laughs.

Yoongi stares at him for approximately 2 seconds before he’s lurching forward, taking Namjoon’s face in his hands, and kissing him repeatedly.

This is why I married you,” Yoongi murmurs between kisses.

Namjoon, helpless to any good kiss from his husband, just hums out his assent.

Namjoon doesn’t care about basketball at all but suddenly he’s starting to care a lot more.

The trip to San Francisco is actually the main birthday gift, but Yoongi’s taken to wording both the trip and basketball tickets as “home court tickets,” which Namjoon isn’t sure he takes offense to or not. Namjoon’s interested in San Francisco for a variety of reasons—the queer culture, the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Modern Museum of Art and the Asian Art Museum, and the Palace of Fine Arts.

Yoongi, however, is acting as if the trip revolves around this basketball game. Namjoon might be annoyed if Yoongi wasn’t so happy and cute talking about it.

“—And they’re playing against the Clippers, who I also love, although, I’m pretty sure the Warriors will beat them.”

“Oh yeah, you’ve mentioned them before, too.”

“I can’t believe I’m going to get to see Steph Curry play right in front of me.”

Namjoon nods as if he knows who that is.

“It’ll be fun,” he says, adjusting himself in his seat so he can sleep. He usually falls asleep on Yoongi’s shoulder on airplanes. Yoongi always pretends to complain about this, saying that it should be him falling asleep on Namjoon considering Namjoon is gigantic, but Namjoon always wakes up with Yoongi’s hands running through his hair so Namjoon knows Yoongi loves it.

Yoongi holds back a smile when Namjoon settles himself in such a way that he’ll easily fall asleep on Yoongi’s shoulder and Namjoon smiles when Yoongi grabs his hand and squeezes.

“Sleep well, love you, don’t drool on me, though, it’s gross.”

Namjoon huffs. “My drool is a part of me.”

“Well, keep it to yourself.”

Namjoon only rolls his eyes.

They arrive in San Francisco around 7 AM the next day. For their first day on the trip, Namjoon hasn’t planned much of anything, knowing Yoongi doesn’t like to do things right after a long airplane trip. So, they settle into their hotel, eat burritos at a local corner restaurant, and spend the day either inside their room or walking around a park.

The second day is Museum Day as Namjoon has lovingly dubbed it, much to Yoongi’s amusement. They eat breakfast at their hotel, Namjoon takes photos of Yoongi (who is especially cute with a camera hanging from his neck), they take a cable car to the Asian Art Museum, Yoongi takes photos of Namjoon while Namjoon takes photos of the art (Yoongi tells him Namjoon will thank him later), they eat at another nearby restaurant, and then finally, they take a subway to the San Francisco Modern Museum of Art where they spend the rest of the day at before getting dinner and heading back to the hotel.

The day after that is Game Day, which Yoongi argues isn’t just a name he came up with like “Museum Day,” but an actual term.

Either way, Namjoon is enamored.

The next day, Yoongi is restless and excited, and Namjoon is starting to hope the game really is as fun as Yoongi thinks it will be. They go out for breakfast, walk around in the popular Golden Gate Park, where some kind of queer film festival is being held, and Namjoon wins Yoongi a giant rainbow sea lion plush, and Yoongi wins Namjoon some strange (also rainbow-colored) gag gift which Namjoon is certain is some kind of sex thing.

They go home after eating lunch and quickly get dressed (Yoongi dresses up in a Warriors jacket) and Namjoon doesn’t change at all, although he does style his hair on Yoongi’s request (“We’re courtside, Namjoon, please don’t let Steph Curry see you like that”).

The game is scheduled to start at 7 pm at Chase Center so they arrive 45 minutes early, settling in while Yoongi excitedly predicts what the game will be like. Namjoon even admits to Yoongi that the seats are amazing and Namjoon is glad he spent the extra money to see Yoongi so happy.

Yoongi cheers loudly when the game finally does start and for the next hour, Namjoon is almost as enraptured in the game as Yoongi is. Every now and then, Namjoon will ask Yoongi a question about what a certain play or shot means, but for most of it, Namjoon is able to keep up.

When halftime arrives, though, the screens change to show a cheesy heart with Kiss Meunderneath.

“What’s going on now?”

Yoongi smiles, leaning in so his lips are brushing Namjoon’s ear. “The kiss cam. You’ve seen it in movies, right?”

Namjoon nods, realizing exactly what Yoongi is talking about. Except—

“Wait, that’s real?”

Yoongi pulls back and laughs at him. “What do you mean it’s real? Of course it’s real, Namjoon. Why did you think it wasn’t?”

“I thought it was fake! Like you said, I’ve only seen it in movies. “

“Why would it be in so many, then? You think all film directors came together and agreed that this tradition was only for the movies?” Yoongi asks, laughing while leaning heavily against Namjoon. Namjoon’s hand makes its way around Yoongi’s back, holding him even closer.

Namjoon swallows, feeling a bit embarrassed. “Well, when you put it like that….”

“Look, see, at the screen! They found a couple.”

Namjoon looks up, smiling incredulously when he sees a very flustered woman and man on screen, staring at each other awkwardly. Namjoon isn’t even sure if they’re dating, but as the seconds go on, they lean in and kiss each other. From the kiss, Namjoon is sure they’ve either just started dating or haven’t kissed at all, but the crowd cheers anyway. Namjoon looks at Yoongi to make a joke, but Yoongi is grinning at the screen, as if all his dreams just came true.

Yoongi looks back at Namjoon and when he sees Namjoon’s returning grin, he flushes.

“Look, it’s part of the sport at this point, okay? I’ve never seen one in person.”

“You’re so cute, Yoongi.”

The crowd applauds.

Yoongi rolls his eyes. “Don’t tease me.”

“I’m not—” Yoongi raises his eyebrows. “—Okay, maybe I am, but only a little bit. I mean it. You’re so cute.”

More cheers erupt from the audience, no doubt from another kiss happening, but Namjoon doesn’t care enough to look, liking the way Yoongi’s cheeks are reddening more than anything else going on in the arena.

Suddenly, Yoongi smiles at him in the way Namjoon knows is reserved solely for him. He reaches out, placing his left hand on Namjoon’s cheek. Namjoon swallows.

“Thank you, baby, for bringing me here. Really. I’m glad you’re here with me. Always, yeah?”

Namjoon swallows again, feeling torn open. “I—”

Before he can say anything, though, the man next to him is poking him repeatedly. Namjoon turns around to tell him politely to stop, but when he sees the man pointing at the screen with wide eyes, Namjoon turns around quickly to see him and Yoongi on the screen, both realizing at the same time what exactly is happening.

“Oh fuck,” Namjoon whispers, turning quickly to face Yoongi who is staring at him in horror.

“I take it back, you’re the worst husband,” Yoongi says simply.

Hyung, it’s not like I knew this would happen.”

Yoongi bites his lip, looking back up at the screen, where they’re both just sitting there staring at each other stupidly, and before Namjoon can do or say anything else, Yoongi is leaning forward, his right hand grabbing tightly onto Namjoon’s knee while his left hand settles on Namjoon’s waist, and he kisses Namjoon fiercely.

The crowd cheers and they cheer even louder when Namjoon presses into the kiss just as fervently, his hands coming up to rest on Yoongi’s soft cheeks. The announcer says something cheesy and Namjoon knows the camera isn’t even on them anymore, but Yoongi looks so stupidly gorgeous that Namjoon thinks he really must be the luckiest man alive.

He kisses Yoongi again and Yoongi kisses him and the man who poked Namjoon clears his throat, as if trying to tell them there’s no point in kissing anymore, but Namjoon ignores him, and, finally, Yoongi pulls away and beams at him.

“I’m so glad none of our friends are into basketball.”

Namjoon laughs. “Ugh, they’d hold it over our heads forever.”

“Well,” Yoongi sniffs, turning and crossing his arms, which Namjoon knows means Yoongi feels shy and flustered, “they better win now.”

The Warriors do end up winning and Namjoon can’t help but jump and cheer along with Yoongi when they do.

And to top off the already amazing day, Namjoon and Yoongi have some of the best sex ever that night.

Namjoon is already planning out the next basketball game he’ll take Yoongi to.

They have two more days in San Francisco after that and they both live them to the fullest, finally seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park the next day as well as spending a few hours going into every single store they can find. They go to the beach on their last day, which is less crowded than they both expected, and Namjoon finds a tiny crab which he enthusiastically shows Yoongi. For dinner, they eat at a popular grill, and both of them are helpless to comment that they miss Korean food, no matter how fun it is to try new cuisines.

When they settle in for bed that night, Yoongi holds onto him tightly and tells Namjoon how much he loves him and that he’ll find a good place for them to visit, too (“You want to visit Switzerland, right?”).

They talk again about the game and Namjoon makes a joke saying that he should’ve proposed at the game instead, but Yoongi shoots the idea down, saying there’s no way he’d say ‘yes’ unless Stephen Curry himself helped deliver the proposal.

Overall, it’s the perfect trip, and when they get on the airplane the next day, Yoongi even wears the new jersey he bought at the game.

When they finally arrive home, Namjoon can’t help but be grateful. Even though there’s a part of him that knows he could go anywhere with Yoongi and he’ll always feel at home.

That’s just what being with Yoongi feels like.

(Although, a few days later when they’re spending time with their friends, they’re both quick to realize maybe they should’ve stayed away after all.

“So… you two were on the Kiss Cam, huh?”

“Oh my god.”)
