Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Tyler was restrained in the back of the armored van when he heard a whisper in the back of his mind, growing louder. His eyes shot open, an evil grin split across his face as the words became clear. His eyes bulged out of his head and his bones began to twist and crack as he grew, splitting out of the heavy restraints. An animalistic roar rips from his throat drowning out the screams of terror from the guards. Metal shrieked as he tore through the roof of the van, the only thing left inside was the mutilated bodies of the guards.
He bolted through the forest, beginning to slow as he started his detransformation, the whisper in his head now completely gone. Tyler knelt inside an old rotten tree trunk as the events of the day and his injuries from the mutt caught up to him. He couldn't bite back his laugh of pure ecstasy at the scene he had left behind and the adrenaline high from bolting through the forest. He dug a finger into a scratch left behind from the fight at nevermore letting out a satisfied grunt. All that was done at the school gave him a sense of accomplishment and the wounds were just a reminder of what was done and what was to come.

Wednesday looked down at the device in her hand turning it on, squinting at the overly bright screen. Before shooting off a text to Enid

W: Hello Enid. This is Wednesday, Thing has grown lonely in your absence and wished to have a correspondence with you. -WA

E: OMG! You a slave to technology never would have thought this day would come! Let thing know that i can't WAIT to see him again next semester

W: I was not supplied with a power source for this contraption, therefore this meeting will be cut short .-WA

E: Only you would use proper grammar and punctuation when texting

W: I would rather not insult the literary pioneers who paved the way for classic works with improper grammar or punctuation. They are my rivals after all.- WA

Wednesday saw the three small dots signifying a response from Enid and could only stare at the red battery signal before the phone went completely dead, just how she preferred it. Her interest in contacting Enid piqued now that there was no way of knowing the answer. The possibilities were endless. Her lips twitched in the ghost of a smile knowing the tortuous wait ahead of her would be marvelously horrid.
