Work Text:

"Give it up, Edward!" the voice was gruff, a man who was chasing a thief across rooftops. A thief who, really, hadn't stolen a whole lot! Honestly, he just wanted a *drink* but it turns out that he forgot 'his' money in Jekyll's office and, well, one thing led to another...

"Never!" Edward grinned, spinning around. His cloak moved oddly as it curled around him during his time running backward.

"You can't run forever, boy!" Honestly, Edward was surprised the man was still chasing him. They'd been running for five minutes now and even Edward was starting to get out of breath.

"Nah, probably not!" he spun back around, ignoring Jekyll appearing in his shadow with a panicked expression as he realized what his other half was about to do.

The next gap between buildings led down to a small park, and Edward dove off the edge. His golden and tan wings flared and beat against the air hard, starting to slow his fall.

That is until a hole in his cloak got caught on a feather, tugging violently and causing him to squawk and start flailing. The flailing only made it worse, of course, tangling the mangled fabric around his wing in its entirety and ripping new holes into it.

"What the hell?!" the man from the rooftops shouted, and the few people in the streets below gasped as he fell, wings in full view. He barely managed to flair them (and the attached cloak) enough to slow his fall so he could more-or-less glide down onto the grass.

He stumbled on the muddle ground and rolled. He scowled at his wing, flapping it aggressively to try and brute force the fabric out and hardly succeeding.

And then he remembered the man on the rooftops, and decided to turn tail and run through the park so he could lose the man. He'd deal with the 'thief' problem later, because despite his unnaturally high pain tolerance; this was starting to hurt.
