"Head's up everyone, Freeze is at it again," Oracle's voice cuts through their chatter. "We're gonna need all hands on deck, so head downtown ASAP. I'll update as soon as I've got anything new."
Tim's Bo staff cracks across a would-be mugger's knee, dislocating it. The guy's partner immediately turns away at the scream he lets out as he collapses to the pavement. Tim wrinkles his nose when both men throw up. It only takes a few seconds to zip tie them together, then he's on his way downtown.
Halfway there, Dick swoops up beside him in a perfect arc. They drop onto an apartment building roof and Dick swats Tim on the behind, grinning, bright and feral, whooping, "Last one there is a rotten egg!"
Tim shakes his head, sprinting after Dick. A loud crash comes through his ear piece followed by Jason's agitated voice, "Hey, Dickweed, that ain't fair. I know you two assholes have a headstart."
"I offered to patrol with you tonight, Jay," Dick replies with a laugh. He dives off the roof and waits several seconds before throwing his grapple line. Tim follows, a little more cautious, a little slower. He's still rehabbing an injury to his left thigh and he knows he's going to pay hell for this in the morning, but there's no way he would turn down a good rooftop chase. Besides, Dick and Jason will just baby him later when they get home, and there's nothing quite like getting pampered by the two of them.
Jason mumbles something, clearly annoyed, but unable to argue the point any further. Dick just laughs and twists to land gracefully in a somersault then rolls to his feet and keeps running. It still makes Tim smile, seeing Dick's skill and enthusiasm come out. Oracle is rattling off information at a steady pace, calling out the positions of Freeze's thugs as well as police and first responders. She hasn't been able to locate Freeze himself just yet, but it's only a matter of time. Bruce and Damian are already on scene assessing the situation. The newest Robin executes a surgical strike against a group of Freeze's henchmen, taking them out of play before they even realize he's among them.
They are at least six blocks away when they start to feel the cold. Frost is creeping across windows and fat snowflakes are quickly blanketing the streets. Luckily, the area is mostly occupied by empty office buildings. They both skid to a stop for a moment when they hear a massive crash, then all semblance of playfulness drains away from Dick's face and he tears off again. Batman and Robin both check in and inform everyone Harley Quinn just joined the fray and brought high powered explosives with her. Jason curses colorfully.
They rendezvous with Bruce and Damian, overlooking the intersection where Harley is beating four men with her enormous mallet. Jason trots up behind them to look over the ledge.
"I take it she's not in on Freeze's scheme," he deadpans.
"Doesn't seem to be," Bruce replies, tone flat.
Below them Harley is screaming at the men to tell her where Freeze is. When one finally gives in and points out a skyscraper on the north corner of the intersection she clobbers him one last time, says "Thanks, hon!" and marches off toward the building he pointed to.
"Hell, B, I say we let 'em fight it out and deal with whoever wins," Jason says with a shrug.
Bruce sighs, "You know we can't do that. Nightwing, you try to cut her off, talk her down. She likes you. The rest of you, with me. We need to find Freeze."
Dick groans, nodding his assent. Jason snickers and grabs Dick's wrist before he can hop off the roof. He tips his helmet to put their foreheads together and says with a laugh, "Have fun with your girlfriend." Dick snorts and punches Jason's shoulder, stepping back. Tim intertwines their fingers and kisses him on the cheek, whispering, "Be safe." Dick squeezes Tim's hand then turns and walks off the ledge like he's stepping off of a curb. Jason slings an arm over Tim's shoulders, jostling him, and says jovially, "Betcha she grabs his ass."
