Chapter Text

Robin should have guessed that the only people who were going to disrupt her quiet Sunday morning at family video was going to be one of Steve’s children. And she was right, because walking through the door was none other than Dustin Henderson.

“He’s not here today, Henderson.”

“Actually, I was looking for you,” Dustin said whilst leaning on the counter, he paused and then, “is Steve gay?”

“What?” Spluttered Robin. “Steve? Gay?! Ha no way. Have you seen all the girls he’s dated? He goes out with a new date each week. He couldn’t possibly be gay, I mean where did you even get this idea-“

Dustin rolled his eyes at Robin’s rambling, “Have you seen how he looks at Eddie? He dropped me off at Hellfire on Friday and wouldn’t stop checking his hair in the mirror! Something has to be going on.”

“He’s been out on dates with like most of the women in Hawkins, all he talks about is going on dates! Do you know how many times I’ve had to cover the end of his shift so that he could get to a date on time? And Steve’s obsessed with his hair he checks it all the time. Why the hell do you think Steve Harrington is gay? And with Eddie? They used to hate each other in Highschool there’s no way they’re together.”

“Not together, they’re too oblivious to ever get together by themselves, which is why we should help them!”

“What are you talking about now, dipshit. Steve and Eddie aren’t going to get together.”

“Oh come on, they’re perfect for each other. Think of the olive theory!”

Robin rolled her eyes, exasperated but also wanting to know now and maybe help if Dustin’s plan was any good, “What’s the… Olive theory?”

“Seriously why does no one know about this! Steve hates olives but Eddie loves them, it makes them perfect for each other!!”

“Right because we can base a relationship off of their love for olives.”

“Just meet us in Mike’s basement at 5 tonight.”

“Us? You’re all in on this? …DUSTIN!!”

But the door has already closed behind him and he started riding away on his bike.

When Robin walked down to the basement she was met with the sight of Lucas, Dustin, Max and El squished on the sofa whilst Will and Mike sat huddled together in front of them, even Nancy and Jonathan were stood in the corner although they didn’t seem to be apart of the conversation. The talking was cut short when Dustin saw Robin and he stood up directing her to take a seat on the already full sofa.

“Okay, we all know we’re here to get Eddie and Steve to stop pining for each other, now we just need to find out how to carry out Mission Olive Theory! So-“

“Seriously ‘Mission Olive Theory’, that’s the best you could come up with!” Mike interrupted.

“Shut up, I can call it what I want it’s my plan. Anyway, Nancy and Jonathan can you figure out a nice place where they can have a nice, quiet date? Robin you get Steve there whilst me and the party get Eddie there. What can go wrong?”

“I mean they could just leave if they don’t want to be there,” Nancy , always the one to point out the obvious that no one else had spotted, stated.

“How about if we had the date here and we served them and everything,” Will quietly suggested.

“Hey, that might work. Brilliant idea, Will well done!” Mike replied whilst putting his arm around Will and pulling him slightly closer.

“Okay then it’s settled we just need to get everything ready.”

Three hours later and the room had completely transformed. Everything had been tidied up and there was nothing on the floor for the first time possibly ever. Besides this there was also a small table set for two in the centre of the room ready for the surprise date. Max, Lucas and El had been sent to get the food whilst Jonathan, Nancy, Will and Mike finished clearing up the basement.

Robin had left about an hour earlier to go to Steve’s house to convince him to go with her.

“Seriously Robin I don’t understand why I need to be there when you go talk to Nancy. Can’t you go by yourself I’ve got work early in the morning.”

Lying on his bed, Steve watched as Robin searched through his closet throwing things around the room if she deemed them unacceptable.

“Moral support. And no I can’t go by myself it is absolutely critical that you come with me. As my best friend you have to,” answered Robin. Right I think this will do. Yeah that will look good. Put that on and then let’s go.”

***
Dustin had called Eddie to get there to help with a dnd campaign that he was planning. Now all they needed to do was get them through this date and hopefully for them to start dating.
