Deep into a wooden chocolate forest sat a lone wander. He was there slouched peacefully on an old broken log, simply basking in the light given off from the days sunset.
…
that was until he heard the rustling of bushes and a long thread of mumbles and curses.
“Jeez Choco, I know your some big shot adventure now but can’t you pick an easier place to meet up? I swear you’re just making me walk this far to ridicule me..” the necromancer quickly shot at him after getting clear of the twigs and bushes.
A long, breathy sigh escapes the wanderers lips, as his mouth begins to form into a small smile. “It’s nice to see you once more too, Licorice.. please, take a seat.”
And take a seat he did. The two of them sat there quietly for a moment. Not in awkwardness but in comfort. Nether of them spoke at all for the time, a mutual agreement to just sit in the cold silence for a bit. Suddenly, the moment of silence was broken by Licorice, who spoke up while grabbing something placed beside him. A light pink box, with white designs scattered around. “I uh, bought you a cake from some bakery that opened up in the cookie kingdom… I know it’s not much but I thought it would be nice. I also have utensils if you would like to have some now…”
“I’d love to. Shall I start a fire as well? It is getting quite dark out..and it would be no good if ether of us got sick in such circumstances.” Choco replied. One thing about him leaving that’s done him nothing but good was that he was much more talkative than before, and was actually willing to have a conversation. But Licorice quickly shut down that thought and hummed a yes to his question.

The two of them sat by the newly created fire and ate the freshly baked cake with small conversations about old times at the castle popping up here and there.
It was left unsaid by both but they wish they could stay in that moment forever, not a single care in the chaotic world that surrounds them.
As the two of them finished their slices, they sat in silence once more. But it wasn’t cold anymore. Licorice was unsure if it was the fire or Choco that made him feel so warm, but ether or he wasn’t complaining. However, another thought in his mind was floating around and he wasn’t quite sure how to bring it up to the other. That was until Choco noticed Licorice playing around with his hands in his lap.
“Is everything ok Licorice? You’re playing with your hands… and I know you only tend to do that when there is something on your mind. Would you like to speak about it?”
Since when was that brute so observant to small details?
Not knowing where to start, Licorice just looked opposite of Choco and stared into the ground. “Yea everything is fine.. it’s just like.. whatever I guess, it holds no importance to you-“
“Tell me. I don’t mind listening. After everything you’ve done for me it’s the least I can do in return.” Choco interrupts while grabbing one of the hands of his lover.
Shocked at the sudden forwardness, Licorice just looked at him with a blank face before looking back away and beginning to speak.
“It’s just that ever since you left things have been so empty. I know your happier now, which is good, I want nothing more but that for you. But I cant help but have this gut wrenching feeling when I don’t see you at the headquarters anymore.”
He pauses to take a deep, shaky breath.
“Mushroom always asks when your coming back and it just breaks my heart. Even if we do try to come up with a plan for them to see you, they’ll probably end up bring it up to Pomegranate that they’ve seen you just the other day and our whole cover will be blown! Not to mention, how quickly they replaced you! I mean who does Affogato think he is to just to waltz in and acts like he owns the place!”
He takes another breath, but this one being much more shaky then the last.
“It’s just so unfair! I want to leave so badly.. I want to be with you I just miss being with you!! I’ll do anything to get out of that hell hole! All I want is to just be away from everything. Like, think about it! You, me and Mushroom…it doesn’t need to be anything fancy… just us three… as a happy little family… doesn’t that sound nice?”
At this point, tears are dripping from his eyes and soft sobs can faintly be heard.
Choco had no idea how to respond, he knew him leaving would obviously have an impact but he didn’t think it would be this bad. He’s been desperately trying to see Licorice as often as he could, but Mushroom….
He clears his throat and begins to speak. “It does, it sounds lovely.” He rubs the back of Licorices hand with his thumb before continuing. “I’m sorry about leaving.. I wish I was able to take the both of you. Every night I dream of what could’ve been. My only regret of leaving is not taking you two.”
They both look at each other. Nether knowing what to say next. Which leads Choco to simply just embracing his lover and holding him. No words were spoken during this time. Just the odd sob from Licorice and the sound of Chocos hand rubbing against the fabric that covered his lovers back.
This time, Choco was the one who broke the silence.
“I know what I’m going to get you for Christmas.”
“What?”
“I’m going to get you and Mushroom out of there.”
Licorice pulls away from their long embrace with a face of shock.
“Are you serious right now??”
“Yes”
“You sure this isn’t some type of joke? Cause even if it is the truth, do you know how hard it would be?!”
“Yes I am aware.. but I am willing to take the risks.”
Hands that were wrapped around the waist of Choco quickly moved up to cup both his cheeks.
“Dark Choco. Look me dead in the eyes and tell me with a straight face that your actually going through with this.”
“I am actually going through with this.”
What Choco assumed to be a squeal escaped Licorices mouth and quickly hugged him once more. Unlike last time though, this hug was filled with joy and promise. Nothing but pure bliss.
That was until a gust of cold air mixed with snow snapped the two of them back into reality. Both of them look at eachother and frown.
“Well.. it’s getting late I should probably head back to the castle before Mushroom notices I was gone..”
“Best be so.. Thank you Licorice, Next time we meet up we shall discuss more on your gift.”
“Yea, I’ll try my best to keep you posted on mission statuses and what not…. love you.”
“Love you too, safe travels back.”
And just like that, Licorice left just like how he entered. Already looking forward to their next visit in the near future.
