The tale started when a vampire ran away from a certain vampire hunter. The rustling of the bushes got nearer. He grabbed his injured arm, panting as he ran through the woods. It was indeed a bad idea to search for wild animals at that time. Suddenly, he stumbled into a witch.
The witch who was blond for hair quickly dragged the vampire inside his cottage not far from where they were standing and went into hiding. Without asking much question, the witch tend to the wound on his arms.
"I don't think you understand what's happening right now. You can't just invite someone you don't know in your house, especially when you already figure out their identity." the black-haired vampire frowned by the sudden hospitality.
"My name is Miya Atsumu. I am a witch who happened to live around here. I don't need to look at you to know you're a vampire. If you're worried you might bite me, don't be. My potion can make you drop dead in a second." He said confidently, causing the vampire to roll his eyes.
"What's yours?" Atsumu asked as he cut the remaining bandage from the vampire's arm.
"Excuse me?"
"Your name. I already introduce myself so you should too. It's the least you can do as thanks for saving you."
"Why is that your concern? I might not even see you again anyway. And for the record, I didn't ask you to save me." he said, slowly twisting his arm. It didn't feel that hurt anymore.
"Well, that might be a problem. You see, this area is filled with vampire hunters so you might not be able to get out of here alive. You might even starve to death, who knows."
"Is that a threat?" The vampire glared at him. He prepared himself to attack if the witch were to do anything.
"No, it's an offer." Atsumu smiled. "Live with me. I will give you shelter, and even food supply on one condition. Become my experiment and try my mixed potion. It's simple."
The vampire raised his eyebrows. "And how do you sure I won't be dying drinking those?"
The blond chuckled. "I was just kidding about before. These potions won't be able to kill creatures like you. It's all made from herbs. It's a healthy one to say the least. Not that you vampires can feel the difference... But anyways! I need help desperately for my brother and I would appreciate you joining me."
He took a glance at the witch. No signs of lying from his eyes.
"My name is Kiyoomi." The vampire finally spoke.
Atsumu widened his eyes and a wide smile slowly appeared on his face.
Thus, the experiment between a witch, Miya Atsumu and a vampire, Sakusa Kiyoomi to find the perfect potion began. It took a few tries and errors, as Atsumu was still a beginner, but it didn't stop him from getting what he wanted. Kiyoomi might not feel any different from trying the said potion. As Atsumu claimed, it really didn't taste weird or poisonous. But of course, there were few side effects that felt unpleasant.
"How would you know if one of these would be the right potion?" Kiyoomi asked after he drank one pink colored potion.
"When you feel like your head is clear, and your injuries is healed completely, that's the sign." Atsumu exclaimed, as if the description couldn't be vaguer.
"Want some of my blood in case the animal's is not enough?" The witch offered, rolling up his sleeve.
Kiyoomi winced slightly as he holds a bowl of deer's blood. "Is it hygienic?"
"It's literally blood what do you expect?"
"Then I'll pass. Who knows what type of disease I'll get by having yours."
Atsumu felt offended and immediately gave a long lecture about how his blood would be cleaner than the animals considering he always practice healthier lifestlye. Kiyoomi sighed, but slowly chuckled at the witch's behaviour. It was not too bad for having company sometimes, he thought.
"Miya. Your brother you once mentioned, where is he?" Kiyoomi spoke one day, curious. It really was not his business, but he deserved to know considering how he involved in some way.
Atsumu looked at him as he stirred another weird looking potion in a regular sized pot. "He is somewhere other bad people won't be able to reach him. Osamu might be tough but his sickness that he got from our mother won't allow him to fight for himself. I moved here because I was told it has all the ingredients, I need to make the potion. I do visit him regularly though. If we're able to make it, I might even introduce you to him."
Kiyoomi noticed the soft smile that Atsumu made. He silently hoped he will find what he was looking for.
It had been few weeks since Kiyoomi stayed with Atsumu, helping him to create the best potion. He learnt more about him (not that he wanted to but he didn't mind), and it felt like he could understand his nature more.
"Do you usually make potion for your brother and yourself only?" It might be a stupid question, but that was what he usually heard from others about witches, they were selfish creatures who would do things that benefit themselves only.
Atsumu closed his book that he just finished reading, seemed like he heard that type of question many times, but he didn't seem bothered.
"I've helped injured people from time to time, lost travelers and such. I'm not one of them, I hope I never will be."
Kiyoomi hummed in acknowledgement. "I also think you're different from them. You saved me and gives me shelter, so that is enough reason to differentiate you with the others. You are kind, Miya. Keep being yourself, you will become a powerful witch one day."
"Aww is that the word of encouragement? You're making me blush."
Kiyoomi went outside the cottage without saying anything, which was the habit he always do when he praise someone. Atsumu should be getting used to that by now, but for some reason, the compliment from that vampire that day made him feel warm.
Everything turned out fine for both. They might not yet find the perfect potion, but their relationship has improved from the first moment of their meeting. Atsumu has opened up more to Kiyoomi, and the vampire does the same. They even considered each other as friends. It could be a happy ending for the story,
Except it soon turned into an unexpected turn.
The day before Atsumu's usual visit to his brother's place, a knock on the door can be heard. As soon as he opened the door, Kiyoomi quickly looked up and sensed familiar feelings. Vampires. "Atsumu, get back!" he ran in front of the witch, covering him as two figures walk closer to them.
"Omi-kun, it's okay! He's my brother, Osamu!" Atsumu reassures him as he tries to walk forward. "Samu, what are you doing here? It's dangerou-" Kiyoomi stops him. "They're both vampires! Can't you see!?"
Atsumu frowned, but the realization quickly hit him. The changes in his brother's features. His face was pale, but he doesn't seem to be the person who has been in bed all day. He seems...fine.
"Atsumu." A man with dark hair who has face similar to Atsumu stood in front of him. "I have something to tell you."
He got turned into vampire, by someone who stood right next to his brother. The moment Atsumu learnt the truth, he turned furious. He grabed the collar of Suna Rintarou, the person, no, the damned vampire who dare messed around with Osamu.
"What is the meaning of this. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HIM!?"
Osamu quickly held his arm. "Tsumu, stop it! He saved me!" But Atsumu wouldn't listen to any of that. Being a vampire is enough of a suffering and he won't let misfortune fall upon his twin brother.
After a certain silent, Rintarou opened his mouth to speak, "There was no other way. He almost couldn't make it. The only way to let him live is by turn him like me. You were busy thinking about his sickness and your so-called potion to cure him, but where were you when he needed you the most!?" He raised his voice; his hands was shaking and slowly, he lowerd his head. "I just want him to live."
Atsumu felt devastated, the hands that was grabbing the collar was released. No matter how much he wanted to deny it, he did spend more time with his potion making rather than spending time with his twin brother. He thought it was the right choice to make, turned out he was wrong.
"I'm sorry Samu. It's my fault for abandoning you. But like this...you can never live a normal live anymore."
Osamu approached his twin, wrapping his arms around him. "Thank you for working hard trying to cure me. But you don't have to worry about me anymore. As long as me and Rin are together, we'll be fine."
Atsumu closed his eyes, hugging him back.
"Are you going to be okay?" Kiyoomi finally asked after Osamu and Rintarou left the cottage.
"I'm fine." Atsumu replied shortly.
Kiyoomi understood how Atsumu would feel. Vampires lives were indeed just another way for people to suffer.
"...I hope it didn't change your perspective about our kind, Atsumu."
"It's not about you guys...I get it, they are in love, even before Samu got turned into vampire. He doesn't seem to have regretted his decision. They'll be fine." Atsumu finally calmed down.
Kiyoomi nodded. A faint smile appears on his lips.
"Just like us, right, Omi-kun?" Atsumu added jokingly.
The vampire rolls his eyes. "In your dreams."
Atsumu chuckles, and continue. "Now that everything has calmed down, how would you like to help with my experiment again? I'm trying to find this one potion that would make the world a better place."
Kiyoomi knows how much it sounds ridiculous, but for some reason, it really is not a bad proposal.
"Doesn't sound half bad."
Atsumu ran towards the vampire in glee. "You do love to stay with me don't you, Omi-kun!" The vampire quickly avoided the attempted hug, but surrendered at last.
The tale of a vampire and a witch. They are not the same, but fate brought them together. And this, is their story.
