Midnight Karaoke with Bros (The Roomate isn’t Happy)

Summary:

Through the walls, John can hear the instrumental version of ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears blasting at full volume, and two very off-key voices. His hand twitches.

Or, Blyke and Isen can’t sleep and decide to drag John into their mess.

Chapter 1: this is what happens when you drink too much caffeine kids

Notes:

Haha, my very first fic.
Honestly there just isn’t enough Blyke and Isen shenanigans, so I decided to write one myself

Future me is gonna cringe at this fic so hard, I can feel it 3 years from the past.

Chapter Text

Blyke is extremely bored. It’s currently 2:45AM, according to his phone. He can’t sleep, and perhaps it was the five shots of espresso he downed earlier to prove Arlo wrong that was preventing his rest.

As he’s scrolling through random Wikipedia pages, he nearly has a heart attack when his notification sound rings in the dead silence. He quickly turns down his volume, and opens up Messages.

‘The fuck is Isen doing up at 3 in the morning?’

He squints, looking at the texts his annoying best friend sent him.

PEN ADDICT

Pen addict: dude

Pen addict: I can see you’re awake Blyke don’t ignore me

Pen addict: Can I head over to your dorm?

Pen addict: I’m bored :/

——

‘John has a presentation tomorrow. If I wake him up I’m dead.’

Blyke shivers. He knows it’s not a good idea to wake up his roommate, but he’s so bored. Maybe Isen will even be quiet for once. (He knows it’s a lie, but a man can hope.)

——

Ginger: alright

Ginger: be quiet tho

Ginger: johns gonna be pissed if he wakes up to your dumbassery.

Pen addict: Got it! :>

Pen addict: I’ll message you when I get there 👍

Pen addict: Also dumbassery isn’t a word, moron

Ginger: stfu nerd

——

Blyke sighs and turns off his phone. He should sleep, considering the presentation that both him and John have tomorrow is worth fifty percent of their grade. He can’t leave Isen hanging after promising to hang out though, especially when he currently runs the risk of waking up the dorms and getting detention.

It would be funny though.

Don’t tell Isen he thought that.

Soon enough, he felt a buzz coming from his phone.

‘It’s 3:10? It’s a three minute walk, how’d he take twenty minutes to get here?’

APEN ADDICT

Pen addict: Hey I’m here

Pen addict: Open up

Pen addict: This shit’s heavy af

Pen addict: Blyke if you don’t open this in the next minute I’ll punch a hole through the door.

Ginger: alright alright, chill gimme a sec

Ginger: tf did you bring

——

Blyke tears his eyes off the device, and slowly creeps his way down the halls. After he passed John’s door, tension dropped from his shoulders instantly.

He looks at the front door, and for a brief moment, considers not opening it, just to get Isen ticked off.

Blyke slowly turns the knob open anyways (because he’s nice like that), and is greeted with a sweaty Isen, wearing the most atrocious outfit known to mankind.

Along with a giant speaker.

Why the fuck was there a speaker.

Chapter 2: This is when bad decisions have been made

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“Isen, why the fuck is there a speaker with you?” Blyke hisses under his breath.

“Bro, I’m bored as hell. I drank six shots of espresso. Karaoke is fun.” Isen explained, not actually explaining anything.

Blyke rolls his eyes.

”Ugh, whatever. Come in, I guess.”

It’s not like John won’t be mad at me either way.’ He grimaced.

Grinning, Isen picks up the speaker and walks into Blyke’s room. Blyke carefully shuts the door before walking behind Isen, knowing this’ll be a bad idea.

It turns out, it wasn’t such a bad idea.

Before they actually started singing and risking their lives to an angry John, Blyke was surprised to see that Isen had brought a lot of energy drinks with him. Isen said they couldn’t drink alcohol, so downing a bunch of Monster Energy was a substitute. Blyke highly doubts drinking a dozen cans of these things would be good for his health, but he’s also been a vigilante so who really cares?

Isen managed to bring quite a few flavours, and Blyke found a few stashed in the back of his room usually reserved for last minute projects. Isen then proposed a chugging challenge, and Blyke knew he couldn’t back down. He was not losing to a stationary addict.

——

The caffeine was definitely doing it’s job. After a while, he and Isen were way too hyper from all those drinks. The combination of bored and borderline drugged was starting to take a toll, and they wanted to do something with all the pent up  energy in their systems. Blyke and Isen starting grinning from ear to ear as they remembered they had the speaker that was lying nearby.

Blyke let Isen choose first, since he was the one who carried all of this. Isen scrolled through YouTube, looking for a good song for what felt like hours. Eventually Blyke took over since he was taking way too long to choose something. And he found something perfect for this occasion. Isen connected the speaker to the phone.

In hindsight, Blyke shouldn’t have agreed to karaoke at three in the morning.

But he’s gone too deep into this mess, too jittery to fall asleep. He can’t risk doing anything else while he was like this, unless he wanted to accidentally blow a hole through someone’s head thanks to his lack of control.

And so, Toxic by Britney Spears started playing.

He and Isen exchanged a look at each other like Christmas came early, before belting out the lyrics like absolute maniacs.

In his humble opinion, they sounded pretty good together. Perhaps they should ditch all future plans and become idols. Isen’s got the hair for it. They also clearly have the talent, as shown by their melodic voices echoing throughout the room.

—————

John woke up to horrendous screeching coming from his roommate’s door. His eye twitched. He had told Blyke that they both needed to sleep, since the class had been assigned a major project to be presented tomorrow.

Clearly, he didn’t listen.

John groaned as he heard a second voice join in, somehow worse than the last. He knew who these idiots were instantly.

Blyke and Isen.

He curses under his breath as he realized he was going to lose sleep over this. John turns over and tries to muffle the god-awful noises coming through the walls with a pillow, but it doesn’t work.

For a minute, he just lies there, trying to accept his fate. His patience runs thin very quickly though, and soon he’s finding himself walking to Blyke’s room, wielding a spoon he found lying on the table. He doesn’t know why he’s holding a spoon, but he faintly remembers hearing a story on how Alro kicked their asses with a fork, so it seemed effective enough.

He reaches the door, and slams it open.

Immediately, the two singing idiots froze and turned to face the door, where a John that looked ready to murder, wielding a spoon was standing.

John throws the spoon at a speed fast enough to kill a man, straight into the speaker behind the two.

The speaker shot some sparks before shutting down completely.

Isen and Blyke’s eyes widened in fear as John slowly approached them, a smile on his face despite the murderous glare he was sporting.

—————

Later that day, two teens were lying in the infirmary beds, with various bruises and bandages plastered all over them.

“Hey guys!” Remi exclaimed as she rushed into the school infirmary.

Blyke and Isen looked up from their beds, to stare at their best friend.

”How… How did you get this injured?” She furrowed her brows, concerned.

Blyke glanced at Isen, who covered in bandages like him. Isen shrugged, then winced at his injured shoulder.

“Well, remember The Fork Incident?” Blyke directed his gaze to Remi, who raised an eyebrow.

”That, but with a spoon and John.” Isen finished for him, nodding.

There was an uncomfortable silence before Remi burst out in laughter. Blyke immediately flushed red in embarrassment, and Isen wanted to tease him, though he was responsible for the mess. The two eventually told her the details, and Remi had decided to take John’s side. Isen felt betrayal of the highest degree, and Blyke just sighed, knowing this would happen.

Hopefully Doc would let him out of the infirmary before he needed to present.
