Snow
Sesshoumaru closed the shoji doors gently behind him, stepping outside into the garden of the Shiro. The snowstorm that had swept over the Western Lands had lessened by now, covering everything in a thick blanket of powdery white.
“Look, Akihiko,” Sesshoumaru said softly, adjusting his son on his arm. Their pup was only six months old, seeing snow for the first time in his young life. Akihiko should be asleep by now, but he was fussy, a new sharp canine making its way through his gum.
Sesshoumaru walked deeper into the garden, his leather boots crunching on the freshly fallen snow.
Glittery
A few scattered flakes still fell down from the indigo night sky, illuminated by the stone lanterns placed throughout the garden. They glittered like the stars above, twinkling in sync with Cassiopia, Orion and the like.
Akihiko’s nose scrunched up in confusion, silver fuzzy ears swivelling on his head as a snowflake landed on his face. His little brow furrowed in displeasure as the snow melted, eyes filling with tears at the foreign feeling.
“It is just cold, son”, Sesshoumaru cooed softly, his deep baritone voice rumbling in his chest. It always helped to calm Akihiko down, strengthening their bond. “I would never let anything harm you.”
Ice blue
Ice-blue eyes, reminding Sesshoumaru of a frozen lake he and Kagome liked to visit, stared up at him in wonder. Akihiko’s eyes were even a shade lighter than his mother's, something he shouldn’t mention too often; their son otherwise a split image of the daiyokai and not Kagome.
Chubby hands with tiny claws reached out, grabbing a fistful of his hair and pulling harshly at the silver strands.
Sesshoumaru was unperturbed by the pain in his scalp, relishing in the garbled noises as Akihiko munched on his hair. He chuckled lightly, entangling his hair to offer one of his fingers. Little arms flailed happily, grabbing one of the offered fingers to chew on, stilling the ache in his gum.
Sesshoumaru smiled softly, stooping down to press a kiss to the crescent moon on Akihiko’s brow.
Bundled
Sesshoumaru adjusted the blanket around Akihiko, cradling his bundled-up son to his chest. Mokomoko curled around them, offering an extra layer of warmth to ward off the freezing temperatures.
The daiyoukai swayed gently back and forth on his feet, rumbling in his chest to lull his pup back to sleep. He sighed as, after minutes, blue eyes still looked up at him, wide awake.
Sesshoumaru bent his head down, rubbing his nose over a magenta stripe-adorned cheek. “You need to sleep, pup,” he admonished softly but couldn’t contain the smile as Akihiko squealed in delight as new snowflakes fell down from the sky. Safely tucked in the arms of his father, he enjoyed the natural spectacle by now.
Fire
Not wanting his son to get cold, Sesshoumaru made his way back inside. His heart squeezed tenderly in his chest as he watched Kagome sitting with their twins around the fire, ambers still glowing. They were four by now, raven locks spilling over her legs as the twins rested their heads on their mother’s lap.
Kagome put a finger to her mouth, shushing him before he could say something. He hummed softly in acknowledgement as he settled next to his family, realising that golden eyes were closed, son and daughter fast asleep.
“Seems like you had more luck, love,” Sesshoumaru whispered as he settled Akihiko into the crook of his arm, blue eyes lighting up at seeing his mother.
Kagome laughed quietly, dropping her head on her mate’s shoulder and stroking the pad of her finger over Akihiko’s face softly. “I promised you would build a snowman with them tomorrow if they went to sleep.”
Sesshoumaru pressed a kiss to the top of her head, his golden eyes ablaze with excitement to spend time with his family.
