Chapter 1: Глава 1

Chapter Text

Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, a greatly feared Port Mafia member, living in Yokohama of Japan, did not know what to do in the situation he was brought in.

First, he faints in a mission against a mysterious, god knows what, dude who told him to stay safe, for whatever reason...

Now, there are two office workers? Well, civilians, who look very much Korean like every other person in that particular subway he got himself into.

How?

Why?

Why did this happen to him? Where even is he?

***

" Sir. " Something had shaken him, it was a gentle shake, as if to not hurt him. It was the sound of a gentle, soft and concerning feminine voice calling out to him.

It seemed like a young girl's voice... No, an adult voice, for sure.

Akutagawa  still could not move his body though. He had no strength in his limbs whatsoever. The pain inside his head was beyond anything, he had ever felt before.

And then, he heard another voice. This time, it was an adult male, he realized it was a man from the tone of the voice.

" Hey there! Are you okay? "

This time, he did open his eyes slightly, he looked at the source of the voice...

It was a black haired korean man, who was standing beside the brown haired woman who shook him earlier. They both looked concerned for him as well.

He blinked once, twice, then the man asked,

" Ah... Are you alright, sir? "

At last, he opened his mouth and said,

"...Wha... What happened?"

Then, he saw something very familiar, but yet so distant. A pair of eyes looking at him with concern, and with kindness...

' Huh? ' he was genuenly confused at those stares.

" You have been unconscious for quite some time now, sir. " The brown haired woman said,

"I'm sorry for waking you up, but I was worried about you."

The man said,

" Please rest, we will take good care of you until you recover." the woman spoke up once again, gesturing her hand to her seat, which was... Next to him.

He felt the urge to ask them who they were, where he was, and why he was here, but those questions would come later.

As he thought, he really was injured. His whole body was in intense pain; he was unable to move, or feel any part of his body.

" Tch... " Akutagawa let out a silent huff, he did not receive any sort of wound to get this amount of pain, had the ability user wounded him while he fainted?

He tried moving his right arm, but he could not even lift it. He slowly closed his eyes again, then moved his left hand and placed it on his forehead. He felt a slight sensation through his fingers, perhaps he was bleeding as well, but that was unimportant.

" Are you alright, sir? You started bleeding out of nowhere, we had to check up if you were alright... " The woman spoke up again, once again, concerned for him.

" Cough! " Akutagawa coughed, this time, he lifted his hand and covered his face, as he coughed... Which came out rough.

" What is your name...? " Akutagawa finally asked, getting the attention once again of the man who also seemed to help him a few moments before, but he was staring at his phone.

The man replied,

" My name is Yoo Sangah , i am a n office worker. This is Kim Dokja, he is also an office worker like me. " The woman, Sangah , s mi led.

" Thank you for helping me out, I appreciate it. I was attacked by someone ... " Akutagawa slammed his mouth shut, he should not lend information to strangers he just met.

However, they knew his name and title, he might as well tell them everything he knows.

" I'm Akutagawa Ryuunosuke. " He introduced himself to them both, the woman just smiled at him.

" Nice to meet you, Akutagawa-nim. " Yoo Sangah said, as Akutagawa looked up to see her face, his breath catched.

She smiled like his sister, Gin Akutagawa...

Though, the man who helped him as well, was now focusing on his phone. For whatever reason, he seemed suprised at something_

" What time is it? " Akutagawa asked, he hesitated yes, but he needed to know how long it had been since he fainted.

" Ah, its almost 7 o'clock... "  Yoo Sangah said...

As Akutagawa started sitting up, he looked over to Kim Dokja who was trying to type something in his phone? Akutagawa, curious enough, was about to ask what was up with the man, Kim Dokja, until something unexpected happened

At that moment, the subway lights turned off, and the inside of the train became dark.

Kiiiiiiiik-! The subway train shook loudly and let out a metallic sound.

Akutagawa stood up, alarmed, then heard a scream coming from Sangah, who grabbed Kim Dokja's arm.

Then akutagawa heard the sound of other people either getting up, screaming or yelling at what happened. Yoo Sangah gripped Kim Dokja's arm so tightly that even Akutagawa himself noticed.

It took a dozen seconds for the train to stop fully.

Then, multiple confused voices came from everywhere inside the train.

"Uh, what?”

“W-What is this?”

In the dark, Akutagawa was aware one or two smartphone lights turned on.

Yoo Sangah still held Dokja's left arm tightly as she asked him, “W-What is going on?”

“Don’t worry. It isn’t a big deal.” Kim Dokja said,

'Trying to act all unconcerned in a situation like this... ' Akutagawa wanted to smack Kim Dokja, for whatever reason.

Any normal civilian or person would be scared and hopefully aware of what is happening. Akutagawa was not really fazed by it.

“Is that so?”

“Yes, it is probably a disturbance from a suicide. The engineer will soon make an announcement.”

As Kim Dokja finished speaking, the three heard the engineer’s announcement, –Telling all passengers on the train.Telling all passengers on the train.

The loud surroundings became calm...

Dokja sighed and opened his mouth, “See, it isn’t a big deal. Now an apology will air, and the power will come back on…”

' I don't think so. ' Akutagawa thought, but did not say anything.

–E-Everyone run away… Run…!

‘What?’

There was a beeping sound, and the broadcast turned off. The inside of the train became a mess.

“D-Dokja-ssi? What is this…?” Sangah's words came in a stuttery tone,

A bright light flashed from the front of the subway train. There was a loud drumming sound followed by a pop.

Akutagawa finally let out words slip out of his mouth, but he still stayed quiet " What the fuck? "

Tick, it felt like the world was stopping.

Then they heard a voice:

[The free service of planetary system 8612 has been terminated.]

[The main scenario has started.]

" What the hell is happening? " Akutagawa scoffed, unbelieving of the scene.

The thing in front of him was like a game system, one you would most likely see in some stupid roleplaying game.

Suddenly, Yoo Sangah muttered by my side, “…Dokkaebi?”

i turned to her, shocked at what she muttered, did she know what that thing was? That fluffy floating ball that could probably be smushed any second now?

With two small horns and wearing a small straw mat, the strange and fluffy creature was floating in the air.

「&아#@!&아#@! …」

[&아#@!&아#@!….]

' Am i dreaming? What the hell is that ... Language? ' Akutagawa stood dumbfounded,

“What is this?”

“Augmented reality?”

Amidst the chattering people, Akutagawa decided to just sit back to the seat next to Kim Dokja and Yoo Sangah, it was stupid yes... But his stupid legs were giving out.

It was Yoo Sangah’s voice that broke Dokja out of his thoughts. “It sounds vaguely like Spanish. Should I talk to it?”

Kim Dokja asked, “…Do you know what that is? Will you ask it for money?”

“No but…”

[Ah. Ah. Does this sound good? Ah, I had a hard time because the Korean patch didn’t work. Everyone, can you hear my words?]

As a familiar language was being spoken, people’s expressions relax.

The first one to step up was a big man in a suit. “Hey, what are you doing right now?”

'stupid idiot.' Akutagawa swore in his mind, that thing would most likely, any second, kill that man without mercy.

[…Huh?]

“Are you filming? I have to go because I have to quickly get to an audition.” He seemed to be an obscure actor since his face was unfamiliar.

' Yep, an idiot indeed. '

[Ah, auditions. That’s right. This is also an audition. Haha, there was a shortage of data. I just entered when it was monetized at 7 p.m.]

“What? What are you talking about?”

[Now, now. All of you, relax in your seats and listen to me. From now on, I will tell you something very important!]

“What? Quickly get off the train!”

“Somebody call the captain!”

“What are they doing without the cooperation of the citizens?”

“Mother, what is that? A cartoon?”

Akutagawa coughed silently, observing the situation he got himself into. It was weird, he had no idea how that ability user managed to sent him wherever this is, but all he knew is that Kim Dokja person knew something, by the look on his face while observing the ... Dokkaebi? Sangah mentioned.

Yoo Sangah was about to stand up, when someone stopped her.

“Yoo Sangah-ssi, it is dangerous, so stay here.” It was, of course, Kim Dokja.

“Huh?” Yoo Sangah’s eyes widened.

[Haha, you are really loud.]

There was a presence with a stronger persuasive power than anyone else right now.

[I told you to be quiet.]

As the dokkaebi’s eyes turned red. Something burst, and the subway became silent.

It was, the head of the proclaimed actor. Akutagawa just looked at the head of the actor, unfazed by what happened.

“Uh, uh. Uh…” There was a big hole in the forehead of the unknown actor who had to go to the audition. The man who had spoken several times collapsed on the spot.

[This isn’t a movie shoot.]

There was a cracking sound once again. This time, it was the person talking about the captain.

[It isn’t a dream. It isn’t a novel either.]

One, two… Blood sprayed into the air as the heads of some people started to burst. They were all the people who had protested against the dokkaebi, as well as the ones who screamed or went wild. Those who caused the slightest fuss had a hole in their heads. Suddenly, the subway became a bloodbath.

This would have happened, he knew it.

[This isn’t the ‘reality’ that you know. Do you understand? So everyone shut up and listen to me.]

More than half the people present here died. Blood and body pieces filled the subway. Now, the people didn’t scream. Like primitive apes in front of a powerful predator, everyone just watched the dokkaebi with terror. Akutagawa took a breath in and out until he just closed his eyes, but one was slightly open, as to observe the situation.

Akutagawa suddenly heard hiccuping, and turned to the now sobbing Yoo Sangah and Kim Dokja who was looking at her in suprise. He didn't see that coming, huh?

[Everyone, your lives have been nice so far. Isn’t that right?]

In the special needs seating area, an elderly grandmother met the eyes of the dokkaebi.

[You have been living too long for free. Isn’t life too generous? You were born and paid no price for breathing, eating, pooping and breeding! Ha! You really live in a good world!]

Free? No one in the subway lived for free. The people strived to make money in order to survive, and they rode the subway on the way home from work. Yet at this moment, no one disputed the dokkaebi’s words.

[But now the good days are over. How long can you continue living for free? If you want to enjoy happiness, it is common sense to pay a price. Isn’t that right?]

The gasping people couldn’t answer. Then at that time, someone carefully raised their hand. “D-Do you want money?”

Akutagawa wondered what type of person could speak in the middle of this situation, but surprisingly, Dokja knew the face of the person who talked in front.

“Yoo Sangah-ssi. Isn’t that Department Head Han of the finance team?”

“…Right.”

" Department Head? " Akutagawa questioned both, but was left with no answer by the two.

“I will give you money. Take it. Please note that I am a person like this.” Department Head Han pulled out his business card as people cheered him on. It was the atmosphere of a savior fighting against terrorists. “How much do you want? A big one? Or two?”

He was offering a sum that was overly large for a department head of a subsidiary company.

Akutagawa scowled, knowing that no doubt that would work. How do people expect to come out of this subway alive when the thing up front was terrorizing them? This was a ridiculous situation.

[Hrmm, you are giving me money?]

“T-That’s right! The cash I have right now isn’t much but… I can give you anything if you let me out of here.”

[Money, good. A plant fibre that many humans mutually agree on.]

The department head’s expression brightened. It was an ‘Indeed, money is everything’ expression. How pitiful.

“Now, this is all I have―"

[It only applies in your time and space.]

“Huh?”

At the next moment, flames appeared in the air, and the cheques in the department head’s hands burned up. Department Head Han let out a scream.

Akutagawa had a stoic look on his face, but he felt like laughing any moment.

[That paper has no value in the macrocosm world. If you do this one more time, I will blow away your head.]

“U-Uhhh…” Fear once again spread on the faces of the people present. It was easy to read what they were thinking because it was just like the novel.

「 What the hell will happen now? 」

[Phew, the debt is piling up during the time when you are noisy. Well, yes. Rather than explain it a hundred times, isn’t it quicker for you to make money yourself?]

The dokkaebi’s horns rose like they were antennas, and its body floated to the ceiling of the train.

A moment later, a message rang out.

[#BI-7623 channel is open.]

[The constellations have entered.]

A small window emerged in front of everyone’s blank eyes.

[The main scenario has arrived!]

The dokkaebi smiled faintly as it became transparent and disappeared into the next space.

[Then, good luck everyone. Please show me an interesting story.]

" What the fuck is happening? " Akutagawa cursed again, this was more words that he would have originally said but...

He needed to focus on the so called 'Scenario' then.

' Kill one or more... Creatures? ' Akutagawa was originally planning on killing a person or two, it was easy. As a member of the Mafia, he got missions like this on the daily.

To kill people? There was no need for that. Even though he would, the system said Creatures, not person or people.

he could just kill an ant or any other creature he found.

He stood up and walked away from the other two, trying to find something to kill.

the subway was silent, except for the rattling sound of metal doors.

Akutagawa walked around aimlessly, his eyes scanning the place. He tried finding a creature or two, but his eyes were scanning the people who mercilesly fought and killed others.

There was no saving for these people.

But, the dead bodies lay on the ground, their skin soaked with blood.

This world lacked of humanity.

Even if someone was dying, there was always someone who would kill them before they died.

That was how the world was built.

The dokkaebi's words echoed inside Akutagawa's head.

He looked down at the ground. The floor was made of hard concrete.

No matter what kind of creatures there were, he would not be able to crush them under his feet. They were floating and could easily, most likely, go away from his grasp.

He was thinking too much about it.

He decided to forget about killing creatures and walked towards the small mouse that on the ground. Without mercy, Akutagawa killed it with his foot smashing the small mouse.

The mouse was... A female one?

Akutagawa didn't care much, but the amount of notifications he got, which was about 7, told him that it was. He finished off the rest of the mice that there were, and more and more notifications showed on the system screen...

[You have killed a living thing]

[100 coins have been added as additional compensation]

....

Just then, Akutagawa heard a voice,

“Come on, everybody! Everybody calm down. Start breathing calmly.” Someone stepped forward exactly five minutes after the dokkaebi disappeared.

He was a sturdy man with short cut hair, one head taller than the average height.

“Are you calm yet? Please stop your actions and pay attention to me for a moment.”

The people sobbing or making calls stopped. Once everyone’s eyes were gathered on him, the big man opened his mouth again, “As you know, in the event of a national disaster, small disturbances can cause large human casualties. That’s why I will now control the situation.”

“What, who are you?”

“A national disaster situation? What are you saying?”

Some people belatedly recovered and strongly resisted the world ‘control.’ Then the young man pulled a government official card out of his wallet. “I am currently an army lieutenant serving in the 6502 unit.”

Some people felt relieved all of a sudden.

However, it was too early to be relieved.

“I just received a message from my unit.”

People gathered in front of the soldier’s smartphone. Akutagawa did not bother to walk over to the man, it was not his business, he did not care. It was definitely not his fault for the people here being so stupid to not kill something and just wail like crybabies.

“Soldier-nim! What is happening?”

“I have been trying to contact my unit, but…”

“The Blue House! What is the Blue House doing? Please contact the president quickly!”

“I’m sorry. I am just an ordinary soldier and don’t have a hotline to the Blue House.”

“Then why are you taking control?”

“For the sake of the safety of all citizens…”

The man kept responding to the endless questions he had gotten from the people inside the train, but Akutagawa's eyes trailed to the white haired highschooler who had a face of someone with immense blood thirst.

' Jinko? ' Was his first thought, but that could not be Jinko.

1. He had red eyes, Jinko had Purple-yellow eyes.

2. He had messy short hair, which is a lot more white than Jinko's. Plus, he had a better haircut than Jinko.

3. Jinko would not look at someone with such high bloodthirst.

“The prime minister is making a speech! It is really a level one disaster!”

Everyone turned on their smartphones at someone’s cry.  Yoo Sangah turned her screen toward Dokja. “…Dokja-ssi, look at this.”

–To all my fellow citizens, unidentified terrorists are currently active in an unspecified number of areas, including Seoul.

Ah, so he was in Seoul, South Korea.

The contents of the speech were simple. The current government would mobilize all means and methods to fight the terrorists, and there would never be any negotiations. Thus, everyone should confidently continue with their lives…

“But where is the president? Why is the prime minister making the speech?”

“The president has already been hit.”

“What? Really?”

“I’m not sure. A Naver comment―”

“Shit, then it is fake!”

Of course, I knew it wasn’t a fake comment.

“Uwaaaaack! What?”

People dropped their phones as gunshots were heard from all over. It originated from their smartphones.

Chiiiik, there was a loud sound, and blood filled the screen. After a moment, people held their breaths as they realized what had happened.

“P-Prime Minister…”

The prime minister had died. His head had exploded in real-time. There were several more sounds like gunfire before the screen became silent. The next thing that appeared on the screen was a dokkaebi.

[Everyone, I’ve told you already. This isn’t a game like ‘terrorism.’]

People were at a loss for words as their mouths gaped open like dumb goldfish.

[Do you still not understand? This won’t do. Do you still feel like this is a game?]

It felt so ominous because his tone was so relaxed.

[Haha, according to the data, the people of this country are very good at games. So, why don’t I try raising the difficulty?]

Akutagawa smirked, but covered it quickly after.

People were so stupid, even in a situation like this.

Beeep. A huge timer appeared in the air. At the same time, it started decreasing rapidly.

[The remaining time has been decreased by 10 minutes.]

[There are 10 minutes remaining.]

[If the first killing doesn’t occur within the next five minutes, all lives in that carriage will be wiped out.]

“W-What is this? Is it a joke?”

“Didn’t you hear the message just now? Hey, didn’t you hear it?”

“Soldier-nim! What do we do now? Why isn’t the police coming?”

“Everyone, calm down and listen to me―”

Akutagawa, who was standing trying to be let unnoticed by the crowd, silently watched them. He breathed in and out, still observing the horrid situation.

He knows he should not be calm in a situation like this, but it's not like everything would turn okay right after.

“T-There is a murder back there!”

A scene from the 3907 train car could be seen through the aisle window. The complexion of the killer in that carriage was white.

“We have to keep them out! Don’t let anyone in!”

People held tightly to the iron door, but it wasn’t necessary. The enemy wasn’t there in the first place.

[All types of access to the carriage will be restricted until the scenario is complete.]

Along with this message, people were thrown back from the iron door like they had hit a transparent barrier.

“W-What is this?”

Once again, the voice of the dokkaebi rang out, [Haha, there are some places that are quite fun while other places haven’t started yet. Okay, this is a special service. I will show you what will happen if nothing occurs in the next five minutes.]

A boy bit his fingernails and muttered, “…Is that the school uniform of Daepong?”

Beep beep beep beep― An ominous beeping sound was heard.

Then the high school girls started to scream.

[The given time has run out.]

[Paid settlement will begin.]

Once the announcement ended, the heads of the high school girls sitting in the front row exploded.

One by one, one by one again… More and more heads exploded. The high school girls screamed and ran toward the classroom doors or windows.

“Ahh, uh, how―”

Cleaning tools broke and nails were torn out, but the doors didn’t open. No one could get out.

Peong, peeong. The heads of the high school girls continued to burst. Then a high school girl strangled her friend, who died with a groan. After a while, the only thing that remained on the screen was the last schoolgirl looking around.

[#Bay23515 channel. Daepong Girls’ High School, Year 2 Class B survivor: Lee Jihye.]

The figure of the girl on the screen disappeared. Then the dokkaebi asked, [How is it? Interesting?]

The dokkaebi spoke with a smile, but people weren’t looking at the screen anymore. The people who made eye contact were gradually moving away from each other.

“Shit! What is this?”

Akutagawa heard groaning, and once again, looked towards the source of the voice.

A young man was crouching down in front of the elderly woman.

“Shit, I’m in a bad mood and this old lady keeps whining and groaning! Won’t you shut up?”

The young man was a male student who had been leaning against the entrance.

He was thin and had dyed white hair. His name was written on the badge attached to his uniform.

Kim Namwoon.

“Didn’t I tell you to shut up?”

The agitated Kim Namwoon grabbed the grandmother’s collar. The grandmother’s powerless legs staggered. Kim Namwoon’s palm moved through the air.

Akutagawa ran to the man, grabbing his palm tightly and stopped the young man from even attempting on punching the woman.

" Hey, what the hell is up with you? " Namwoon sneered, clearly mad at the action that Akutagawa did. But, akutagawa was still calm. The people's attention dropped to Akutagawa and Kim Namwoon, who looked like they would fight any second now

" Listen, you do not need to kill the grandmother to survive. Yes, the grandmother is old and has lived her life, but that does not mean you should end her life. "

"What are you saying?! Did you not read the system? Did you not realize the situation we are in? " Kim Namwoon laughed, as if he was making fun of Akutagawa.

Akutagawa guessed he way but, it doesn't matter.

Suddenly, Akutagawa grabbed Kim Namwoon's face and brought it up so he can whisper a thing or two in Namwoon's ear.

"I have already, the system did not mean for us to kill a person. They want us to believe that, but the system also mentioned creatures, you have to kill something other than a human to survive. " He whispered that and could feel the shock on Namwoon's face, when his breath clutched from the shock and so on.

After forcefully grabbing Namwoon, Akutagawa let go of his face and just said

"Do what you want. " before turning away and walking away from Kim Namwoon, ignoring the blunt stares he received from everyone around him.

Kim Namwoon, although still shocked and angry at Akutagawa, obeyed and smashed an ant on the ground, slamming his foot on the ground hardly.

[You have killed a living thing]

[100 coins have been added as additional compensation]

...

Kim Namwoon blinked . Once. Twice. THRICE.

" What is...? " He stuttered out,

that man was right.

Kim Namwoon walked away from the scene, startling a couple people here and there. He did not care, though.

Yet then, the violation of the older women still hadn't stopped even though Kim Namwoon, walked away from the grandmother.

Dokja walked up to the kid with the net.

Somebody had fallen towards the grandmother due to the explosion. It was a kid crying in the middle of this hell.

The kid who was holding the insect collecting net before.

“Excuse me a moment.”

He took the net from the child.

Once Kim Dokja put his hand into the net, the chitin of a grasshopper reached his fingertips. He gently pressed the grasshoper in the child's hands and smashed it, as to save the child. Just then, he turned towards the people.

“Everybody stop. You can’t live if you kill the grandmother.”

His voice was surprisingly clear due to the temporary silence after the explosion and Akutagawa's encounter with Namwoon. One by one, people started looking at me.

“Let’s say you kill the grandmother. What next?”

Their suprised faces reached Kim Dokja.

“The grandmother’s death will be recognized for what the dokkaebi calls the ‘first murder’ and some time will be bought. Then what next?"

“Ah…”

“If what the dokkaebi says is true, you each have to kill one thing. So who will you kill after the grandmother? Will you kill the person next to you?”

The people who thought about something retreated from each other. Horror was in their eyes. In fact, everyone knew. The grandmother was just the beginning.

" What are you saying?! You coward! We can just kill you next! " A middle-aged man, shouted loudly as he pointed his finger on Dokja.

Akutagawa sighed while watching the scene,

' I guess this is the birth of a new hero. ' He thought.

“There is no need to gamble like that. There is a way for you to survive, even if you don’t become a killer.”

“What?”

“W-What is it?”

The people became greatly agitated. The middle aged man suddenly changed.

“Have you forgotten? The scenario clear condition wasn’t to ‘kill a person.’”

Most people were still puzzled but a few people noticed something.

[Kill one or more living things.]

That’s right. From the beginning, the word ‘person’ was never specified in the contents of the scenario.

Kill one or more living things. In other words, any life was possible. A quick-witted person shouted at the collection net in Kim Dokja's hand.

“Insect! Insects!”

The grasshoppers were jumping in the collection net. People’s eyes were shining. Dokja nodded.

“That’s right, the insects.”

Kim Dokja put his hand into the Collecting net and got a grasshoper. It was a chubby one

“G-Give that to me! Quickly!”

“One only! I just need one!”

Akutagawa smirked at the scene, he could not help but smile at the pitiness people have shown. He was the first to react and kill an insect... Or well, creature. Wasn't he?

“Would you like it?”

He waved the net like a trainer provoking an animal. Several impatient people leapt towards him...

“Then catch them!”

He smashed the grasshopper in his hand.

[You have achieved the ‘First Kill’ achievement!]

[100 coins have been earned as additional compensation.]

...

“…You better find them soon. There are only three minutes left.” Kim Dokja reminded them, then everyone started searching like crazy.

Akutagawa had no problem, really. He had already achieved what the needed, so now he can just look at the stupid looks people were having on their faces and the state of panic all of them were in. Not that he was a sadist, but, truly with how highly they acted...

These words were a signal as people started to look everywhere among the subway seats like beasts who had lost their minds.

“I got it! Aaack!”

The joy of those fortunate enough to obtain an insect, as well as the malicious attacks on them, caused the carriage to become chaotic.

“Hey, why did you do that? Couldn’t you have just given them the insects?” The middle aged man, once again, spoke so highly he thought he did something.

" Did you do it just to get the satisfaction by the scene, ay? " The man laughed like a maniac, but not many were fixated on him due to trying to find insects.

" There are about two minutes left, it's either you find some creature to kill or die a pitiful death. " Kim Dokja's smile widened, pointing at the time clock that was in the air.

All the color drained from the middle aged man. He looked in between Kim Dokja, the teen ( Kim Namwoon ) who previously tried murdering the older woman and finally, the woman herself.

" Fucking... Damn it all! " He ran towards the woman and was about to punch her, but Dokja was fast enough to move her.

If the man were able to successfully murder the woman, he would successfully clear the scenario.

" Oh god. " Akutagawa put his hands on his face as if he is dissapointed. It did not matter on who, it was obvious he was dissapointed in the old man.

Just then, even as he was sitting minding his own damn business, something tapped his shoulder.

" Ah...? " Akutagawa pulled his hands down and looked at the source of what was disturbing him...

It was the boy who he had managed to get away from the grandmother.

Kim Namwoon...

" What is it? " Akutagawa asked, annoyed.

" Thank you... " Kim Namwoon suddenly said, which suprised Akutagawa, " What? " his words sounded much more like a gasp, but Akutagawa did not care, honestly.

" Thank you for saving me. "

Akutagawa blinked once again, obviously shocked as how some bloodthirsty highschooler could just magically turn into a soft, innocent highschooler who probably did not want to be involved the slightest into the adapted situation.

" What the... Cough cough. " Akutagawa coughed a couple times, even if Kim Namwoon looked at him weirdly for that he did not care, so he continued, " Your... Welcome? " Akutagawa never really tried saving someone, he was not a detective, a so called hero, he wasn't someone who would save someone anyhow. It was probably Jinko who's that. Jinko had gotten in the Agency and had already become Dazai-san's student, much to Akutagawa's jealousy.

" Albeit you hadn't realized that it said creature, i am glad you acted right away when i told you so. " Despite the loud talks and ringing in the background, the two were having a convesation as if they were in a cafe.

" Thank you for telling me, if you didn't i feel like i would have... Died. " Kim Namwoon let out a sigh, he seemed to be calming down, which was good for Akutagawa.

" Can i join you? " Kim Namwoon asked, getting Akutagawa's full attention once again,

" What? "

" You seem like a nice person. "

' I'm not a good person in the slightest. Also, is this even in character for you? ' Akutagawa thought, although he did not want him to join him in the slightest, he guessed it wouldn't hurt to have a companion...

" Fine. " Kim Namwoon perked at this and smiled widely.

" Oh, what's your name? I am Kim Namwoon. "

" Akutagawa Ryuunosuke. "

" You're not from here, are you? "

" I indeed am not. "

As Akutagawa finished his short yet meaningful conversation with Namwoon, he looked at the system and noticed his suroundings.

5 seconds...

" RaAh! No! "

4 seconds...

" PLEASE save me! "

" Why would i now? "

3 seconds... 2 seconds...

" Please NO-! "

1 second...

The middle aged mans head popped up, blood spraying everywhere as his head exploded and his body headed limp towards the ground. It seemed like Kim Dokja had won over the man, and successfully stopped the madness whatsoever.

Then again, the system showed up.

[You have killed 60 living things.]

[Kill History: four mice, 54 baby mice.]

[You have killed non-resistance living things, so the number of coins you have acquired is reduced by half.]

[6,000 coins have been acquired!]

[The number of coins used for the stats level up is automatically subtracted.]

[You have a total of 3,000 coins.]

[The ‘Mass Murderer’ achievement has been gained through excessive killing.]

Kkiiik.

There was a lurching feeling, and the train started to move again. It made the familiar train noise.

Soon, light flooded in, and darkness was lifted from the windows. We had arrived at the surface ground section of Line 3 between Apgujeong and Oksu.

Outside the window, the Han River and Seoul were revealed.

Ahh. Someone let out a moan. It was a moan which contained deep relief that they survived.

However, it didn’t take long for the meaning of that moan to change. Ah, ah…

The landscape outside the window was no longer the Seoul that they knew. Smoke and dust rose from the ruined city.

The Han River bridges had collapsed. The Han River itself was red with the bodies of soldiers, while among the fallen buildings, a monster was trampling on a K1 tank like it was a toy.

[Main Scenario #1 – Proof of Value has ended.]

[300 coins have been acquired as a basic clearance reward.]

[100 coins have been reduced for the channel usage fee.]

[Additional compensation settlement will begin.]

The subway stopped around halfway past Dongho Bridge.

“Oh my god…”

Several survivors stood up and looked at the scene taking place outside. The ruined Seoul and collapsed buildings. Monsters reminiscent of a giant snake were eating the wreckage of a fighter jet that had crashed into the Han River.

“W-What the hell…!”

“U-Uwaaah! It is coming!”

People screamed with fright.

[Compensation settlement is delayed due to an unexpected scenario check. Please wait.]

The compensation settlement should’ve started right now but only an error message floated in the air.

Just then, a message popped in front of Akutagawa once again

[ Two Constellations who are interested in the Incarnation 'Kim Namwoon' show high interest and admiring towards ]

[ 100 coins was sponsored ]

' Huh? Coins? '

[A handful of constellations admire your scenario and bravery.]

[The constellations have sponsored you 1000 coins.]

Akutagawa slightly smiled at the messages, perhaps he could take advantage of this...? No.

As if forgetting Namwoon was there, who was staring at him and standing next to him.

[Wow, amazing.]

The dokkaebi appeared in the air right after.

[What on earth happened here? I was just watching the other carriages…]

There was a mixture of delight and surprise on the dokkaebi’s face. Twinkling stars floated over the dokkaebi’s head.

As they counted the number of stars. One, two, three… Twenty, twenty one. Twenty two, twenty three in total.

[For 23 people to be connected to my channel… Haha, isn’t this quite good? Gosh, thank you for your sponsorship. Constellations. Haha, everyone! Did you properly show off your value?]

The number of stars meant the number of constellations connected to the channel.

23 wasn’t a lot, if you asked Akutagawa.

[The number of survivors is quite high? The fellow in the next carriage was a nutter as well… It seems that things are quite interesting today.]

" Did the person in the next carriage kill people? " Akutagawa guessed after what the dokkaebi said, Nimwoon just nodded.

" Probably. " And replied after.

The dokkaebi manipulated something in the air. A moment later, a list of survivors came up.

[Survivors from the 3434 Train to Bulgwang, Carriage 3807: Kim Dokja, Lee Hyunsung, Yoo Sangah, Han Myungoh, Lee Gilyoung, Ryuunosuke Akutagawa and Kim Namwoon. A total of seven survivors.]

" Haa... " Akutagawa stood up again, looking at Kim Namwoon.

" Should we get out of here? " Akutagawa said, getting a shocked Namwoon instead.

" What? How? " Kim Namwoon spoke in interest quite quickly.

[The character ‘Kim Namwoon’ has a favorable impression of you.]

[The Character 'Kim Namwoon' has developed high respect of you.]

[Your understanding of the character ‘Kim Namwoon’ has increased.]

'What's this?'

'Understanding?'
" I will find a way. " Akutagawa assured Kim Namwoon, who excitedly said 'okay'.

'I feel like i'm taking care of a child.'

[A few Constellations are impressed by your good deeds.]

[200 coins have been sponsored]

' what good deeds?! ' Akutagawa wanted to shout, he did nothing but comfort a kid and save him from uselessly dying. He was in the mafia, no matter how much ''good deeds'' he does, he will remain how he was.

Worthless and undeserving of love.

“W-Will you release us now? Didn’t you get what you wanted?”

A guy in a torn shirt shouted from half a dozen steps away.

' He is certainly lucky to survive, i guess. '

[Hrmm, released? Haven’t you seen outside? Do you really want to go out there?]

The dokkaebi chuckled.

[It is somehow admirable. In fact, I didn’t expect much from this carriage but you managed to pass the first scenario. This proves that bugs deserve to survive.]

His words made us realize our position. Maybe we were like grasshoppers in his eyes.

[Now now, shouldn’t there be a reward for overcoming the hardships? As a reward for the first scenario, you are entitled to the sponsorship of the ‘constellations.’ Waahhh! How about it? Aren’t you looking forward to it? Hmm, you are all unenthusiastic. This is really a big deal.]

' Sponsorship?" Akutagawa said out loud, he wasn't meaning to, but it wasn't like he would get an answer anyways.

Will he get Rashomon back then?

[Hmm, everybody has confused expressions. I can easily tell you. Right now, you are incredibly weak. If you are thrown into the scenarios that will take place, you will be killed when you meet a weak ground rat, let alone a ‘kruk.’ But kindly, there are some great people in the universe who pity you and would like to sponsor you. Do you understand what I am saying?]

“What are you saying? Who is sponsoring whom…”

[Hmm, my words are just entering dirty ears. Isn’t there an old saying in South Korea? It is better to see it once than listen a hundred times. So experience it directly. Well, the less fortunate ones might not get the chance. Hahahat!]

" Kim Namwoon. Make sure to select the one you feel like would support or suit you best. " Akutagawa put a hand on Kim Namwoon's shoulder, the high schooler looked at him and nodded, as a afirmation he would.

The others suddenly became silent. Everyone was reading the options in front of them. Akutagawa too also had his own choices to look at.

[Sponsor Selection]

-Please select your sponsor

-Your chosen sponsor will be your strong supporter.

...

-Opposing Twin Forces

-Secretive Plotter

- ? ? ?

Three options.

Three options and he did not know which to choose from.

[ The Constellation 'Opposing Twin Forces' is begging the Incarnation 'Akutagawa Ryuunosuke' to choose her.]

[300 coins were sponsored.]

" Why should i? " Akutagawa looked up, glaring at the... Sky? Whatever,

[ The Constellation 'Opposing Twin Forces' is telling the Incarnation that if you choose them, Rashomon would come back to them.]

[The Constellation 'Secretive Plotter' is quietly waiting for your selection]

Immediatelly after, Akutagawa pressed his option.

[You have choosen a constellation!]

[ The Constellation 'Opposing Twin Forces' is crying with happiness]

[ The Constellation 'Opposing Twin Forces' is telling you to check your character page.]
