Work Text:
It was a late winter afternoon, Wednesday, Xavier, Enid, Thing and Ajax, or the new Scooby Gang, as the sheriff used to call them were in the artist's studio waiting for Bianca.
Things were going badly in Jericho. Bianca's stepfather had won the mayoral election using Bianca's siren song, something that was denied but everyone knew about it and since then the whole town seemed under a spell, slaves to the mother and stepfather of the siren.
Also, for some reason, dead mermaids, Nevermore students, began to appear. They looked like sacrificial victims.
They had all the pieces of the puzzle, they just had to put them together and put an end to it once and for all.
For that reason Bianca had gathered them in Xavier's study, she seemed to have important information.
The problem? Bianca did not appear.
The silence of the cabin was interrupted by the ringing of a phone, Xavier's phone, who picked it up unsure, however, annoyed that the self-proclaimed "Queen Bee" of Nevermore was late.
"Where the fuck are you Bianca?" he asked. Then he suddenly went paper white, wordlessly, his cell phone slipping through his fingers and falling against the floor.
"Xavier?" Wednesday asked looking puzzled at the boy who was starting to shake, his cell phone dropped and forgotten on the floor. "Are you okay?"
"Bianca..."
He didn't finish the sentence, the words died in his throat. But he didn't have to, they knew that Bianca was in danger.
Xavier's breaths began to come out faster and more agitated, hyper ventilating. Suddenly he fell to his knees on the wooden floor.
In a mere attempt to stop him Wednesday grabbed him by his forearms, but she couldn't and inadvertently ended up on her knees in front of him, clinging to his forearms. But Xavier wasn't looking at her, he was shaking like a leaf.
"Oh my god!" Enid exclaimed.
"Oh shit! He's having a panic attack!" Ajax exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air, nervously.
"No shit, Sherlock." Enid replied wryly, her voice shaking almost as much as Xavier's body.
Wednesday stood quietly staring at Xavier dumbfounded, not knowing what to do. The sandy-haired boy, barely able to breathe, was inhaling air rapidly but no breath was coming out of his lips. It was terrifying.
"Just try and think about something else. Anything else" said Wednesday, unsure if Xavier could hear her.
"Like what?" the boy replied choked, something like howls or strangled noises came from deep in his throat, his green eyes filled with tears.
For the first time in her whole life Wednesday Addams didn't know what to say.
"Uh, happy things. Good Things. Family, friends, people you care about." Rambled Ajax talking for the first time, his voice sounded nervous.
Xavier stared at her with a look of complete and utter panic, obviously thinking of Bianca and the atrocities they would be doing to her. Despite her nerves, something stirred in Wednesday's stomach, it was like a twisted knife in her loins, but she chosed to ignore it. It wasn't the time to focus on that strange feeling.
The girl with braids shot a murderous look at Ajax, who stood behind Xavier not knowing what to do, clinging to Enid's arm.
"No, I mean. Not that. Oh, God. Okay, uh, just, just, try and slow your breathing" said Enid, panicking as well, but trying her best not to show it.
"I can't." He groaned throatily. "I can't, I can't, I can't."
His voice died, the only thing echoing in the old cabin in the woods were Xavier's sobs and shallow breaths.
Something in Wednesday's chest cracked, if it were anyone else she would think that a panic attack was a pathetic weakness but for some reason she just felt helplessness.
In an attempt to calm him she took Xavier's face in her hands, stroking his cheeks carefully and gently.
" Shh. Shh, Xavier. Look at me." Said Wednesday trying to get him to concentrate on her. Her voice sounded soft, almost like a whisper, and she was surprised by that, she never thought that she would talk like that to anyone. But desperate situations call for desperate measures. "Shh, look at me. Shh, Xavier, please."
Wednesday waited an eternal moment. She wanted to see if caresses or soft words had an effect on the sandy-haired boy.
They didn't.
Helplessness kept moving through her body like the blood in her veins, she could only hear Xavier's breaths, she also felt on the verge of a panic attack just looking at him.
She caressed his face again and out of ideas, in a sudden movement, she brings Xavier's face to hers and kisses him.
A warm feeling spread through Wednesday's body, it was like something effervescent that was born deep in her throat and traveled throughout her body. Her brain was short-circuited, for a second the memory of Bianca and Xavier's panic attack died in her brain, there was only Xavier's lips, soft and tense, against hers.
She had her eyes closed, but she could feel Xavier's gaze on her face, completely in shock at what had happened. A few seconds later she felt him relax his lips against hers, kissing her back.
For her, and perhaps, for him, Enid and Ajax had vanished.
It was just, the two of them.
Slowly, Wednesday backs away with her eyes closed, savoring the tingle on her lips and the memory of the kiss. She felt electrified, as if she had stuck her fingers in a socket, however, it was a very different feeling from when she had a vision, from that time she kissed Tyler.
There was no terror, no horrible discovery, there was only a lavender haze in her mind.
It was a kiss of necessity, a means to an end, but something in her stirred uneasily.
Slowly she opened her eyes and Xavier was already looking at her in complete and utter disbelief of what just happened. The sun was filtering through one of the covered windows of the shed illuminating his face, his hair and face looked golden, but his eyes were green and his lips were pink. He was horrible, and beautiful.
He looked like the start of time in the flesh and bones.
"How'd you do that?" he said, his voice was almost a whisper.
'I, uh. I read once, that holding your breath could stop a panic attack. ' She stammered, feeling ridiculous. "So, when I kissed you, you held your breath."
"I did?"
"Yeah, you did."
They were silent for a few seconds looking into each other's eyes and Wednesday just wanted to look away from Xavier's gaze.
"Thanks. It was really smart."
"I, just, I don't know. I just read it somewhere" she said, unsure of what to say next. She had never felt so dazed and weak, she hated it, nevertheless an awkward little smile appeared on her lips and she started playfully punching his leg. "You are welcome, by the way.
A little smile graced Xavier's lips.
"Noted." Said Ajax breaking the moment. "Next time I'll kiss him."
Wednesday's little smile disappeared completely and she shot a murderous look at the boy who erased his smile instantly.
"Shut up Ajax." Xavier said before she could say anything, on Thorpe's pink lips there was still a small smile.
At that, something in Wednesday's heart fluttered. However, she decided to ignore it, now was not the time.
