Work Text:

Hanamon knew when he first sprouted from the flower field, that he was a Hehetmon that was born to be loved. After all, the friends that had helped him out of his flower had declared so with smiles on their little faces, pointing out the little flower that was on Hanamon's head.

Flowers were meant to be friendly and given to friends, and if Hanamon was born of the flower fields, Hanamon would be a friend to all. And so, Hanamon made many friends as he spent more and more time with his fellow Hehetmon in the Kingdom.

But Hanamon had one selfish wish, he found himself discovering, as he watched his friends play with each other. Hanamon was a Hehetmon that became friends with everyone, but everyone was already friends with everyone before Hanamon was born.

Hanamon wanted a friend to call his own, a friend that was new and could understand what Hanamon was going through. Hanamon loved his friends, but it was not the same, they did not feel the same way that Hanamon felt.

But Hanamon did not dare speak out about it, about his selfish wish. What if they thought that he was being silly? After all, Hanamon was a Hehetmon with many friends, so many friends like the many flowers in the flower fields.

Yes, they were Hanamon's friends, but they were not his special friend, like the way that Zzangmon and Ikemon spent their afternoons napping, or the way both Tutumon and Yonggamon enjoyed picking flowers in the fields together.

Hanamon wanted his own special friend, to nap together with, to pick flowers with.

So Hanamon searched and searched, he looked far and wide, in the little Kingdom's libraries. How do Hehetmon find their special friends? How does a Hehetmon become a special friend?

He tried to ask for advice from one of his favourite friends, Monny, but Monny only asked for money in exchange for his advice. Which was rather strange - there was no concept of money in the Kingdom, but perhaps Monny was trying to import human culture into their society. Hanamon was what you would call a "broke bitch".

Desperate and unwilling to let his wish go, Hanamon found himself looking for answers in the book of myths. He looked at the pictures (there were no words, the Hehetmon population do not know how to read, they only communicate in picture books), and deciphered the ancient text.

If Hanamon wished and wished with all of his might upon a shooting star, his wish might come true.

So Hanamon stopped going to the night gatherings by the fire, because he had to find a shooting star, he had to! His other friends wondered where Hanamon was going, and decided to look for him, to only find him watching the skies with bated breath.

When they ask Hanamon what he was doing, all Hanamon said was, "I'm waiting for someone special!""

So they left him alone to wait and wait, but they would always make sure to leave him some treats so he would not get lonely, with Jjongmon in the lead to share his favourite bear-shaped biscuits.

Hanamon did not know when a shooting star would appear, but he still watched the night skies patiently, munching on the little treats his little friends had left him. It was good sustenance, and he could feel the love and affection from his friends in the treats.

They loved him so much, they loved him, and Hanamon loved them, and Hanamon wanted someone that he could too spread his love to.

One fine night, when his friends decided to join him in his wait, bringing their little night picnic to him, Hanamon felt a tremor down his spine. Perhaps, today was the night? Perhaps...

He squinted and squinted, at the moon, the stars, and the beautiful deep blue void.

And when all hope seemed lost, Tutumon yelled, with their twin voices.

"Hanamon! Look!"

A beautiful streak of light came, tearing around the sky, and Hanamon clasped his hands together and wished with all of his might.

His friends followed along, having heard of the myth that Hanamon was chasing after he decided to share it with them. His greatest wish, his most selfish wish, his favourite wish. They wished for his happiness, that his wish would finally come through.

And Hanamon wished, for his special friend.

Hanamon's wish was granted with a loud boom, a boom that frightened him and all of his friends, sending them scrambling backwards.  But Hanamon stood steadfast, was it his friend? Was it his special friend, the one that he wished for?

After all, Hehetmon were born in weird and mysterious ways, and if Hanamon's special friend decided to appear with an exciting entrance, he would not blame him. After all, being Hanamon's special friend was a very exciting event indeed.

The boom was a steaming heap of something in front of them, having falling from the sky. Maybe it was one of the shooting stars that had fallen out of the sky, maybe it was not Hanamon's special friend.

Hanamon and his friends waited patiently for the dust and the smoke to settle, before moving forward collectively to examine the thing further. Suddenly, the thing stands up, and Ikemon screams, like the sproutling he is.

"Wah... that was a harsh landing..." The thing started to pat itself down, removing the dust and soot, to reveal a Hehetmon with a star on his head, a pretty Hehetmon with a pretty smile. Hanamon could feel his ears start to turn red, and his hehet-heart starts to beat faster.

The Hehetmon looks to Hanamon, and Hanamon ducks his head.

"Oh... Is this Hehetmon Kingdom? Did I land in the right place? I'm Winklemon, by the way!" The Hehetmon giggles, before his eyes focused on the bag of treats that Hanamon was still carrying.

"Can I have that? The trip... I'm a little hungry..." Winklemon asked, his stomach suddenly making a loud growl. Hanamon nodded, and immediately thrusted the bag of cookies into his hands.

"I'm... I'm Hanamon... Would you want to be my friend?"

"Sure! I never really had friends before!"

They exchanged smiles, and Hanamon began to share his cookies with Winklemon, herding him to join his interrupted picnic with his friends.

Maybe in the future, they would become special friends, after all, Hanamon had wished for it.
