Work Text:
When Della got aboard the Spear of Selene, Huey was 5, Dewey was 3 and Louie was still a little egg. Huey still remembered her, how she took his face in her wings when he was sad, That lullaby she used to sing, how she told him about her, Uncle scrooge and Uncle donald's adventures. How she had left them with Donald to never appear again. Sometimes he had a hard time remembering her voice, the feeling of her beek kissing his cheeks. But he was never able to forget her back turned to them as she left the manor, and Uncle Donald and uncle scrooge's argument, or the sight of the McDuck Manor getting farther and farther away while Dewey finally fell asleep beside him in the car after crying so much.
Huey resented his mother as much as he missed her. She had decided to go by herself even with Louie still an egg, and Dewey and him so small. But it was in her nature, she didn't like staying idle too long, she liked adventure, and he didn't want to blame her for that. But it was easier.
Dewey had barely any memory of his mom. Sometimes when he was sleeping he dreamed of a soft voice singing him a song or of gentle wings caressing his face. He dreamed of meeting his mom. Of learning about her. But Huey and uncle Donald closed off when he asked about her. Uncle Donald always had an expression that was a mix between sad and angry, but mainly sad, and Dewey for all of his curiosity, didn't like to make his uncle sad. And Huey would never tell him more than tiny details. Dewey knew his big brother was a bit mad at their mom for leaving them. But he couldn't help but to tell himself that being mad at her for that was better than not remembering her.
Louie never knew their mother. He knew she existed, and that she had left them with Uncle Donald. Nothing more. And Louis sometimes felt a bit sad to never have seen his mother, to never have experienced her warmth. But at the same time, Louie had Uncle Donald, and it was more than enough with how protective he could be. Sometimes he felt bad for not missing her, she was his mother after all, he should miss her, but he couldn't. She had never been in his life, she had left while he was still an egg, and when he hatched she wasn't there. The first person he saw was Uncle Donald, followed by Huey and Dewey. They were all he needed. Even if he was jealous that Huey and Dewey were even able to miss her. He didn't have anything to miss.
