The sun shined over the horizon, giving earth an ethereal glow, Loki stood at his brother’s side as The Statesman began to be pulled into earth’s orbit.
He gazed over at Thor, his brother looked deep in thought, it seemed as if the toll of what had just occurred was finally settling on him
He couldn’t help but feel guilty
Loki turned his attention back to the slowly approaching planet, he tilted his head to the side, and let out a small huff of laughter
Thor finally turned to him, his brows furrowed, “What is it?”
Loki shook his head absentmindedly, before turning to look at his brother, “You don’t honestly think that bringing me back here is a good idea, do you?”
Thor let out his own huff of laughter and clasped Loki on the back, “You have proven to me that you have changed”, he turned his gaze back to earth, “I will inform everyone of our valiant battle, and how you were right there by our people’s side!”
Loki stared at Thor’s profile, he would never understand the pride that his brother’s voice held as he spoke of the past.
“One good deed does not erase the litany of bad that I have done”, Loki followed Thor’s gaze as he spoke
A silence fell over the two
Thor eyes were distant when he finally spoke, “That may be true, but you are trying to change Loki, and that is what matters”, Loki scoffed and rolled his eyes at his brother
He was such a big sap
It was Thor’s turn to study him, “Do you not trust yourself?”
Loki looked up at Thor’s eyes, but quickly dropped his gaze. Thor opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted when Valkryie entered
“Big guy wants me to let you know he finally reached someone-I believe he said a Tony Stark?” She looked between Thor and Loki
Thor smiled broadly as he turned to face her, “Ah, yes! Stark is a close friend of mine, he will help us!”
Loki raised an eyebrow at ‘Close Friend’ but didn’t address it
Thor and Valkryie began to talk about where exactly they would be landing, and Loki turned his attention back out the window
Did he trust himself?
He truly did not know how to answer that
Yes he was used to simply following his instinct for self-preservation of course, but trust himself not to do something vile?
He didn’t think that was in his nature, he was the God of Mischief after all…
But there was a difference between being simply mischievous and being a total villain
Yes, he loved to cause trouble every now and again, but during the time when he ruled Asgard, it was peaceful, he was peaceful.
There wasn’t an urge to cause chaos, he didn’t need to
Yet deep down he wasnt truly really happy, yes he was ruling Asgard and everyone loved him.
But he would feel guilty every now and then, knowing his brother was somewhere out there mourning his ‘death’.
“Brother”
He turned his attention back to Thor, noticing Valkryie had left the two of them alone again
Thor walked back over to the large window, he and Loki now stood side by side again
Loki felt as if the silence was compelling him to tell Thor what had been on his mind since before he had arrived on Asgard.
“Thor there is something i need to tell you-er show you rather”, his brother turned to him, his face held no emotion other than the blank stare he wore
Loki sighed deeply, before holding put his hand out between the both of them. He let his magic flow forth revealing the cube he had hidden since the battle between Surtur and Hela.
Thor’s eyes widened as he took in the blue cube which was shining brightly, he looked to Loki, “I thought it would’ve been destroyed with Asgard”
Loki huffed, “Did you really think, I’d let it get destroyed?”
Thor’s eyes narrowed at him, “Loki what is the meaning of this? What do you plan on doing with it?”
He bristled at the accusing tone in Thor’s voice, but he knew his brother didn’t really think he was planning anything harmful
“Before you came to Asgard”, Loki started, “There was talk in the nine realms about Thanos gathering the Infinity Stones”
Thor furrowed his brows, “Thanos? Wasn’t he behind your attack on New York?”
Loki nodded grimly, “Thor if he gets all six of the stones, there is no telling what he would do”
Thor looked away and clenched his fist by his sides, “And yet you still brought the tesseract with us?”
Loki clenched his jaw, “Keeping the stone with us might be the only thing keeping it out of Thanos’ hands,” Thor’s stature didn’t relax in the slightest
“Even if he does come after it-”
“Then he will have the Avengers and the wrath of two Odinsons to deal with”, Thor’s eyes finally met his own again.
Loki inwardly let out a sigh of relief, glad his brother wasn’t angry with him
“Yes, I suppose so”, he agreed
Thor finally seemed to relax as he let a bright smile take over his features once more, and he threw his arm around Loki’s shoulder, just as the sun began to peak over the earth’s silhouette
“The sun will shine on Asgard once more!”
