Work Text:
It was a morning like any other, you woke up next to your husband, who was still sleeping soundly. You stretched and stood up, walking to the bathroom. The servants had run you a bath, like every morning, and you slipped into the warm water to relax. You allowed them to wash your hair while you laid back. You had to admit, it had been odd at first to let them help you with everything, but you were slowly getting used to it and they had become your friends, as you spent time with them every day.
After the bath, you chose a dress for the day. It was your favorite, a royal purple dress with a trumpet hem and dozens and dozens of glittering diamonds. You placed it behind the screen so your maids could help you put it on. Next, you had to wake up Thorin, because your maids couldn't come into the room while he was still sleeping. You picked up your pillow and whacked him in the face with it.
"Wake up, stoneface, I've been awake for hours now. I want to get dressed and my maids can't help me when you're sleeping. So, up!" With your last sentence, you yanked the covers off of him, causing him to complain.
"Give those back, it's cold." He pretended to shiver, but you weren't falling for his show.
"No. Now, UP." You threw your pillow at him and stood next to the bed, your hands on your hips as he grumbled and reluctantly got out of bed.
Thorin rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and then he turned to you, his eyes brightening as he looked you up and down. You were still standing on the edge of the bed, smiling as you had managed to get him up. The king under the mountain was not a morning person. Thorin walked up to you and placed his right arm on the small of your back as he pulled you to his chest, colliding his lips with yours into a warm kiss.
"Morning love. You should dress like this more often." He muttered, voice still heavy with sleep. You rolled your eyes as he connected your lips into a deeper kiss, packed with emotion. You were only wearing your underdress, and it didn't cover much, which Thorin appreciated.
"Morning. I'm dressed like this because I haven't had the opportunity to put on my dress yet." You stated and he smirked.
"Well, I am grateful, whatever the reason is." You rolled your eyes again, and marched to his cabinet, pulling out a pair of pants as well as a shirt and throwing them into his face.
"Now, get dressed. Orella and Diana are waiting." He looked at you for a moment before he pulled the shirt over his head and yanked the trousers up. You grabbed his crown from the dresser, and placed it on his head, after running the brush through his hair. When he was done, you becked his lips and basically shoved him out of the room.
"I'll see you at lunch at the latest. Dwalin wanted to talk to you about the new trainees." You yelled through the door before you let your maids into the room to finally get dressed.

You sighed. Thorin had sent you a message that he wanted to meet you at the training grounds. Some of the oldest in training were ready to be made full members of the guard, and it was traditional for the ruling couple to announce them as official members of the guard.
You understood that it was a part of the duties of a queen, and obvious to Thorin, but you hadn't been raised to be royalty. No, you were a barmaid that Thorin had met on his way to the mountain and you had caught his eye. So much so that the moment the mountain was his and the war was won, he had written to your father to invite you both to the mountain. You had nearly passed out when he had asked you to be his queen.
You took your crown from Diana and placed it on your head, as she made sure your hair was perfectly in place. You thanked her and she excited with a curtsy, something you had told her she didn't need to do. She still insisted, and you had no way to stop her, really, so she kept doing it.
Inhaling deeply, you entered the room and tried not to flinch as everyone's eyes turned to you. You sped up lightly, hurrying to your spot next to Thorin, who was walking with Balin about something.
"Sorry, I'm late." You muttered as you took your place next to Thorin, who turned to you and gave a kiss on your cheek.
"You're not late, love, we others are just early." He grasped your hand and intertwined your fingers, and your nerves started to ease.
Fili and Kili appeared at your side, panting slightly. Thorin gave them a look but didn't say anything, and you gave his hand a squeeze. They had made it, that was the important thing. You pressed a kiss to each of their foreheads.
"What have you two been up to today?" You had grown quite attached to Thorin's nephews. They always managed to turn your mood into a happy one.
"Nothing important, aunty. Practiced some archery in the range and then went for a walk with Tauriel." Kili explained, and your heart melted a little bit as he called you 'aunty'. They had started doing it after you and Thorin had gotten married, and you found it adorable.
"What about you, Fili? Have you been doing anything interesting?" The older brother shrugged.
"Nothing, if I'm being honest. I helped around in the forges and had a guard duty in the tower, but nothing more." You nodded and let your gaze shift from one brother to another.
You nearly jumped out of your skin when trumpets sounded, and Thorin gave your hand a tighter squeeze to calm you down. You watched as the young dwarrows made their way inside, and you could see how nervous they were. Thorin visited the training hall every now and then, but he usually only conversed with Dwalin and Balin as well as the more experienced fighters, so this was probably the closest they had ever been to the king. That was enough to make anyone nervous. Thorin never aimed to scare anyone, but it was his presence, even when he was quiet, that seemed to unnerve people.
One by one, they approached Thorin, who touched their shoulders lightly with their swords to make the transition official. After that, they bowed to you quickly. You could see how nervous they were with interacting with you, Thorin was known for snapping at people who did something he didn't like around you. You gave each of them a calming smile as they passed you. From you, they moved on to Dwalin, who gave them their pins that they would attach to their attire and they indicated their rank in the guard of Erebor.
As they all had their pins, Thorin announced them as official members of the guard and everyone watching clapped, you included. The new guards bowed deeply to the two of you and left the room.
You sighed, relieved it was over. You weren't a fan of big crowds, especially when their eyes were on you. But that was how being queen worked. People watched you. Lucky for you, most of the occupants of Erebor liked you, mostly as you kept people from getting too harsh of punishments when your husband lost his temper or how you made sure every person in the kingdom had a home and something to eat every night.
Thorin released your hand from him, only to pull you into his chest and pepper your face with kisses. You giggled as his beard tickled your face, and you leaned back to avoid the sensation.
"I should go, I arranged to be measured for another gown with the dressmaker and I can't be late." Reluctantly, you pulled away and Thorin sighed.
"I have a meeting with a couple of the council members, but I'll see you at lunch?" You nodded and turned to leave, only to be pulled back. You squeaked in surprise but calmed as Thorin pressed his lips to yours into a long, passionate kiss. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw one of the dwarves standing on your left in a big crowd looking in your direction. His eyes were on Thorin and they were filled with so much hatred that your insides grew cold. Thorin let you go, and smiled at you.
"I'll see you at lunch."
- -
Thorin was tapping his foot on the floor, impatient. You agreed that you would meet him at lunch, but you weren't there yet. You weren't one to be late or go back on your promises, so as time passed, Thorin was growing more and more worried.
"Thorin, calm down. I'm sure Y/N is perfectly fine. She has two guards with her at all times and everyone in the kingdom loves her. You worry too much." Just as Dwalin has finished his sentence, the guard that had been assigned to you today ran into the dining hall. He had a huge bloody gash on his forehead, that was bleeding profusely and the blood was beading onto the floor.
"My king! The queen has been taken!" Thorin was on his feet before the guard has a chance to finish his sentence.
"Taken?" Dwalin asked, standing up and walking to the guard, holding Thorin back with an extended hand. Attacking the guard wouldn't bring Y/N back any faster.
"I don't know by who, but we were walking here from the dressmakers and someone attached us. He came out of now where, and attached us! We fought but he killed Derun and he hit me in the head. When I woke up, she was gone!" The guard was frantic and clearly scared of what Thorin would do to him.
If it had been only Thorin, the man would have been dead already. But luckily, Balin and Dwalin were there to stop any bloody incidents from happening. Dwalin held Thorin back as Balin got the details from the guard and sent him into the healing wing.
"Come now, we haven't got a moment to waste," Balin commanded, and Thorin started walking towards the door, fuming.
"I want the kingdom gates closed. No one leaves until she's been found. And I want every inch of this kingdom searched." Thorin growled, and Dwalin nodded and gave brief instructions to two guards who sprinted away.
"The guard said the hallway is this way." Balin was walking ahead, but Thorin pushed past him and practically ran in the direction the older dwarf had pointed.
It wasn't long until they found the place. A pool of blood sat on the floor, probably where the guard lay. Balin kneeled next to him to check for signs of life and when there was none, he closed his eyes. Thorin glanced at the dwarf.
"We'll bury him with the highest honor, he died protecting the queen." Dwalin nodded, but soon, his eyes got drawn to something on the floor. Small, white diamonds.
"Thorin." He picked up a few and handed them to the king, who upon seeing them, shook with anger.
"They are from her dress. Y/N wore the purple dress today." He was fighting to keep calm, try not to think of the worst, but it was hard. Especially when he spotted the smears of blood on the wall.
The whole kingdom was on high alert. Guards worked systematically, and not one closet or bathroom was left unsearched. Fili, Kili, and Tauriel gas heard what was going on and were now on their way to the eastern gate to give the closing order.
- -
You had never been so scared. The dwarf had killed Derun. The poor guard had tried to protect you and now he was dead. You didn't know what he wanted or where he was taking you. Was he going to kill you? Or worse? He kept dragging you with him, and every time you made a sound he dug his fingers deeper into your side.
"Be quiet. I told you already what happens if you call for help." You wanted to whimper, you wanted to cry out for Thorin. But his words kept ringing in your mind. "You make a sound, or otherwise tip of any guard, I'll slit their throat and then yours."
You looked at the passing walls and tried to see any clue of where you were. Nothing looked familiar. There were no paintings, nothing that could tell you where he was taking you. Shivering, you stumbled as he yanked you into a hallway, and the hem of your dress brushed against the wall roughly. The small gems fell off with a tingle, and you prayed that somehow, Thorin would use them to find you.
Now, you could hear voices, and your hope rose, but it got squashed as the dwarf pushed you against the wall.
"Now, we are going on a little trip, but to get there, I need you to behave." You stared at him, afraid to move or make a sound.
"We are going to walk across the hall and you are going to be quiet and stay on my arm. If you try to tip anyone off, I'll run you through with my knife. Do you understand?" You stayed still, a small seedling of defiance rising in you, but it was killed as he took you by your neck and pushed you against the wall.
"I said, Do you understand?" You nodded furiously, tears rising into your eyes. When he still looked unhappy, you willed your voice to work.
"Y-yes." Your heart was beating a storm and you were shaking.
"Good." The dwarf smiled, and now, when you were still, you could recognize him. He was the one that had been leering at Thorin.
His eyes were glued to you with a wicked smile.
"I hate to do this, dorzada (love), but I must have you. I cannot watch you with another dwarf." You stilled the minute he called you 'love'.
"I am not your love." You muttered. He did not like that. His hand tightened around your neck, and he pulled a mean-looking knife from his belt.
"You are my love. I will take you to be mine and King Thorin Oakenshield will suffer for the rest of his life without you." He spat out Thorin's name and title like it was poison, and you wanted to argue, but his hold on your throat made breathing difficult. You struggled slightly, trying to get him to loosen his hold. He stood so close to you, you could feel his breath on your face as he spoke. It made you nauseated.
"I will stab you and leave you dying in a pool of your own blood. Is that what you want your beloved Thorin to find?"
- -
The dwarf was escorting you on his left arm, his knife hidden in the right that he kept poised to strike if you 'got out of line', as he had phrased it. You shuddered lightly as you slowly approached the door. If you made it out of here you would probably never see Thorin again.
"Stop!" A feeling of relief washed over you as you saw the guards approaching, but yet again hope was robbed from you as the dwarf pulled you to him and pressed the knife to your throat.
"Not a step closer! I will kill her!" The blade felt cold against your neck, and your body started to shiver more. Was this how you were to die?
- -
Your captor was slowly inching towards the gate when Fili and Kili stormed to the hall. The first thing they noticed when they entered was you being held against the chest of a dwarf, a huge knife to your throat. The dwarf turned to see who had entered and smirked wickedly.
"No closer. Drop your weapons." When Fili and Kili didn't move, the dwarf hissed. He pressed the blade more to your throat, and you whispered as you felt it pressing harder against you.
"Drop them, or I'll slice the throat of your beloved 'aunty." His tone was taunting, and Fili and Kili threw their weapons to the ground with a clang.
Next, Thorin appeared in the room, panting, eyes wild. When he saw you, a knife on your throat, he growled, tightening his hold on his sword. When your eyes landed on Thorin the first tears escaped your eyes and you let out a whimper. The dwarf that held you smirked.
"Ah, king Thorin, how gracious of you you bless us with your company. Now, if you would give the command to open the doors so we could take our leave." Thorin didn't dare to take a step closer, despite how much he yearned to pull you out of trouble.
"No." He growled, and your captor chucked.
"No? But you don't have a choice." His tone was unctuous. Thorin wanted nothing more than to rip his head off his shoulders, and he took a small step closer.
"I've told it multiple times that no one is to step closer. Or. She. Dies." As is to prove his words, the blade was pressed against your neck tighter, and you let out a short wail as the blade pierced your skin. A drop of blood trickled down your neck. Thorin stilled. But not with fear, but with rage. Who dared to lay their hands on his queen! His Y/N!
"I will not tell you again, open these gates or I swear to mahal I will slit her throat!" The dwarf yelled. Thorin gave a nod to the dwarves up top. He would not risk your life. But he needed to get you back.
"Smart move, king." Mockery was clear in the dwarf's words.
"She will be mine. I will have her. It will be like it was meant to be." Slowly, the dwarf was backed towards the slowly opening door. Thorin could see the fear and plea in your eyes.
"She will be mine and you cannot do shit to save h-"
Swoosh.
An arrow was sticking out of the dwarf's right arm. He clutched it, letting out a painful groan. Thorin's eyes flashed to the place where the arrow had come from. Tauriel stood there, expression stern, another arrow poised to shoot.
Fili was the first to move, he stormed forward and grabbed you, pulling you away from the dwarf.
"No!" He screamed and tried to grab you, but he couldn't reach you anymore. Kili stepped between the dwarf and his brother and you, tightening his hold on his sword. You had sunken to your knees, and Fili was kneeling next to you, holding you in a tight embrace, quietly shushing your cries, all the while glaring at the dwarf. The dwarf took a staggering step forward, but an arrow swished through the air again and landed in front of his feet. Tauriel's message was clear. Not one more step.
Dwalin walked to the dwarf, who raised his knife to attack, but Dwalin knocked it out of his hold easily and kicked him down onto the ground, onto his stomach. Three guards came, and hoisted him up to his feet, holding him up to face Thorin.
"Who do you think you are to dare to lay a hand on my wife!" Thorin growled into his face, and your captor hissed backs
"Y/N is mine!"
"She is not yours. She never was and never will be." Thorin growled.
"Take him away. I will decide his fate later."
The dwarf was taken away, and he kept yelling insults as we were dragged into the dungeons, but Thorin paid him no mind. He hurried to you and gently took you from Fili's arms to his. When you were moved to Thorin's arms, your sobs intensified. You wrapped your arms around his neck and held on with dear life as you buried your head into his chest. Thorin pulled you to his chest, trying to soothe you.
"I'm here, Y/N. You are safe." He muttered against the top of your head, feeling your tears seeping into his shirt.
"I-I was so s-scared." You cried, and he rocked you back and forth, gently.
"Shh, calm down, love. No harm will come to you now." Slowly, Thorin stood up and lifted you up with him. You winced, but he held you tighter.
"Let's get to our chambers. It's nice and calm there." He muttered and started walking. Dwalin followed them, as did Balin.
It didn't take long until Thorin walked into your chambers and gently placed you on the bed. Still holding onto you, he kicked off his boots and climbed on the bed. You shifted so you were tightly against him again, tears still rolling down your cheeks. Thorin gently pulled off your boots and began to unlace the back of your dress. At that, your crying intensified and he stopped.
"Darling, it'll be easier to breathe when I get you out of this." He muttered, your voice wavering when you answered.
"M-My dress is r-ruined." Your voice was so heartbroken that Thorin's heart wrung. He knew how much that dress meant for you. It was the first wedding present you got. Until then, you had been nervous that the kingdom would not approve of you, but the gift, and the many others that followed, proved you wrong. That was probably why you were so attached to it.
"Don't say that darling, someone will fix it for you. Don't you worry." He assured you as he helped the dress off you. It slid onto the floor, and you took off your underdress as Thorin handed you your nightdress.
You were now laying in the bed, wrapped into a tight ball next to Thorin's chest, your back against his stomach. Thorin could feel your heart beating fast, but when he started trailing his arms gently on your arms, it started to slow. That was until someone knocked gently on the door.
You winced, whined, and wrapped yourself into a tighter ball, squeezing Thorin's hand in yours. The door opened, and a voice came from the door.
"My king, we need to clean her wound." Thorin slowly sat up, and you whined as you felt him pulling away.
"Shh love, I am not going anywhere." He kept his tone down and nodded so that the healer could approach. However, when he entered your line of sight, you flinched and moved towards Thorin, latching onto his arm tighter. The healer looked at you for a moment, douched a small cloth in some sort of liquid, and handed it to Thorin.
"Love, this will sting a little." He ran the cloth against the cut on your neck, and you flinched, but stayed still.
"There we go." He handed the cloth back to the healer and nodded his thanks.
The door closed after the healer, and Thorin gently tipped himself down, pulling you with him. Wrapping his arms around you tight, he brought you to his chest and peppered kisses to the top of your head. You breathed out slowly and buried your nose deeper into the crook of his neck.
Thorin shifted on the bed to get into a more comfortable position on the bed, and your hands tightened on his shirt.
"Don't go." Your voice was barely above a whisper, a staggering whimper.
"I won't. I promise I will never leave you." Thorin whispered in your ear, pressing a kiss to your earlobe.
"I love you." His breath tickled your ear, and you smiled.
"Love you too." You muttered, and closed your eyes, trusting that Thorin would keep you safe. Now and always.
