A Heart as Cold as the Blizzard He Brings

Summary:

With an ever-lasting blizzard roaring all across Earthbread, Gingerbrave decides to seek out an old friend

[As much as I hate the way I wrote it, you need to read part 1 for context lmao]

Chapter Text

1 month.

That’s how long it’s been since the blizzard started across Earthbread. There had never been so much snow and it didn’t look like it would stop anytime soon. Gingerbrave had given that hope up a week ago. But it had been an issue, power was out and it was difficult to move around. Those in the cookie kingdom were the first to get hit with this blizzard and unfortunately, they had gotten used to it.

Waiting it out wouldn’t help, no. He had to try to live life as usual with this mid-autumn winter. Snow was always quick to cover Gingerbrave’s glasses as soon as he dared step foot outside, as if his vision wasn’t already horrendous from the frost he was stuck with. He groaned as he zipped up his coat and trudged through the snow once again to see Frozen Yogurt and Snow Sugar. One value tip he learned from an old friend, dress for the weather, even if you think you’re over prepared.

“Thank you again, Brave but you really don’t have to go through all that snow just to see us,” Frozen Yogurt said with a slight chuckle. It was upsetting that it was the happiest she’s seemed since Wizard left.

“No need to worry, I’m always happy to visit you two,” Gingerbrave laughed.

“God when is this storm going to end?”

“At this point I don’t think it’ll be soon. Do either of you need anything? I can drop it off tomorrow, anything at all I promise.”

“You don’t need to get us anything! Snow Sugar and I will head out tomorrow morning.”

Gingerbrave eyed Frozen Yogurt’s cane with concern. “Are you sure? I really don’t have much else better to do and besides, it’s not very stable out there…”

“Are you saying I’m weak?” Frozen Yogurt laughed. “Sure it’s been a few years since your little adventure but I can handle any storm. Even this hell that’s outside our windows.”

“Speaking of that, I was thinking of trying to see if Wizard might be able to stop this…”

Frozen Yogurt’s eyes shot from the window to Gingerbrave. “Hm?” He said nothing but sighed. “Gingerbrave, if you’re going back out there-... You know how dangerous it is, especially with the storm!”

“I’m aware, I’m aware!” Gingerbrave threw his hands up in defense. “But I am much more prepared this time than we were last time, besides I was talking with my friends and we all agree it would be nice to see Wizard again.”

“...Maybe, I would offer to go with you but unfortunately I’m not as strong as I used to be so I don’t think I could make the journey. I can barely get to the market with this snow.”

“I wouldn’t ask you to, I wouldn’t ask Snow Sugar either. If he does offer, I'd want to make sure you have someone to help you.”

“I know a few family members don’t worry.”

Gingerbrave smiled and nodded. “You said you could barely make the trip to the market, can I get your list and pick you up what you need?”

Frozen Yogurt feigned offense. “Really? Using my own words against me? Really ?” After a second she motioned to Gingerbrave’s glasses. “I never asked before but could I see those, I want to check how bad your sight got after that…” Frozen muttered. Gingerbrave shrugged and handed them to her. She set them over her eyes for a moment before taking them off and looking startled. “Oh shit…” She then handed them back to him, still blinking intensely.

Gingerbrave laughed and put his glasses back on. He hated having such an intense prescription, he hoped that the frost that had gotten into his eyes four years ago wouldn’t be a permanent effect and yet after a month he gave into getting glasses after not being able to read a thing, not unless the object was to his nose.

“Brave!” Snow Sugar shouted from the kitchen door. “I heard you were heading to the store for Mom? Can I come along?”

“Of course, just dress for the everlasting snow storm!” he shouted back. Snow Sugar rolled his eyes.

“You act like I’m the one who didn’t go into the Forever Winter prepared!”

He then walked off to get ready, leaving Gingerbrave stunned.

“The sass on this child!”

Frozen Yogurt hummed with a slight chuckle. “It’s his way of coping I suppose. At least he’s not hurting anyone. I’ll be honest when he first started to get snappy like that I was worried. But I had no need to, he mostly spends time with his snow friends.”

“I see, maybe this walk to the store will be good for him.”

“Hoping so, you know how hard of a time he’s had since Wizard left. It’s been difficult for both of us, especially when I can barely make trips to farm ice anymore.”

“I’m sure everything will be fine.”

“Alright, I’m ready!” Snow Sugar called from the front door.

“Be right there!” Gingerbrave called back, grabbing his coat. “We’ll be back soon, and I’ll be sure to help put everything away.”

“You don’t have to!” Frozen Yogurt laughed.

“No, I don’t. But I will.”

“So, I actually wanted to ask you something while we’re out here,” Gingerbrave said. It was luckily one of the calmer days of the storm which sounded insane to admit because he still had to speak quite loudly for Snow Sugar to hear him.

“Yeah?”

“My friends and I were hoping to pay a visit to Wizard. We were wondering if you wanna come along.”

“To see my brother who fucking abandoned us?”

“Language.” Snow Sugar muttered something Gingerbrave couldn’t make out. “And also, he didn’t abandon us, he had to stay there.”

“Sure, he had to go and train with the Frost Queen and he had to stay there!”

“Would you like to come along or not?”

“Why are we even visiting him?”

“Well we’ve been wanting to for awhile and also maybe he can help with this storm.”

“In that case I may come along… Maybe I can talk some sense into him…”

Gingerbrave chuckled. “See it as you want, I’m sure you missed him.” He took off his glasses and wiped off the snow, looking towards the kingdom’s garden. “I know I have…”
