Purple diamond felt like crying, but it was a flaw to cry, so she decided against it. She stared emptily as her partner rhodonite was taken to the moon, only shards remained of her. She could not feel pain, yet rhodonite’s shards pressed against her indestructible carbon skin hurt so much.
Now is not the time to mourn, however. Purple diamond had to inform the others of this casualty, as she walked on the recently trimmed grass, she wished it was her who got taken away instead, it’s not because of grief, it’s just that no gem wants to face the wrath of Mother. A glimmering, bright diamond has the eyes to match, burn magnesium and that’s what you see when you see a newborn diamond. It is the life goal of Mother to reduce this blinding light of hope to a dark void.
Dead, cold eyes, she is inorganic, it is only natural she does not have life. The diamond thought as she carried what remained of rhodonite to the School.
Mother required everything to be perfect, only perfect gems lived in the School. Impure quartzes and brittle crystals are disposed of as soon as they are discovered, colour was also an impurity, the school is therefore only black, white, grey and nothing more. The lucky coloured gems that are allowed to live often felt like outcasts in the monochromatic environment, it isn’t a surprise that purple diamond held a degree of disdain for her home.
Of course, doing something as outrageous as speaking against Mother will result in a fitting punishment. The treacherous gem would have their limbs removed, left without any light for a few years, after they are awakened they will be put through gruelling situations to kill off the inclusions on their body. It doesn't hurt, but it feels excruciatingly painless.
Purple diamond shuddered after even imagining something like that, before long, she had stepped foot in the eerily symmetrical and colourless School.

“I let you stay despite your deep impurities, and this is how you repay me? Mother snapped, it was the first time purple diamond had tasted Mother’s anger, and it was unpleasant to say the least.
“B— I am sorry, mother.” the gem bowed her head and apologised sincerely, she ignored the terrible feeling bubbling inside of her mind. “It will never happen—“
“It won’t happen again, alright.” Mother cut her off, suddenly composing herself, hiding a piercing venom behind her hastily put together smile.
“I love you dear, but it would be unfair to not punish you, right?”
Purple diamond could only nod.
“I’ll let you off this time, you’ll only be banished for the foreseeable future.”
“Now, leave my School.”

As purple diamond walked out of the School alone, she noticed a burst of colour in the dazzling night sky.
A supernova, huh?
Rhodonite liked to look at those, she used them as an inspiration for her art. In fact, she loved art so much, she secretly named herself “Ena”, apparently it had a meaning relating to drawing from the ancient language Mother had all the gems study. Intrigued by this, purple diamond also named herself, after her favourite season.
When everyone was asleep, rhodonite and her partner always snuck out of the School. During that time, they weren’t rhodonite and purple diamond.
They were “Ena” and “Mafuyu”, and they only had each other in their world.
