Chocolate Killer

Summary:

Anzu and Riri go grocery shopping, but now that Anzu’s magical restrictions have finally been lifted, their cart seems a bit… unbalanced.

Work Text:

“Wait! Stop the cart!” Anzu leaned over the metal shopping cart to snag a handful of different chocolate bars from the aisle right as they reached the cashier.

“We already have chocolate,” Riri said, eyeing the pile of “groceries” in their basket. It was mostly a disorganized pile of cat toys, cat treats, video games, and, mostly, chocolate.

“Chocolate chip cookies and chocolate fudge brownies and chocolate crème pie and chocolate ice cream and pudding, yeah, but not chocolate bars! We need these, too!” Anzu clarified, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “The simplest of chocolate pleasures!”

Riri giggled to herself. The fairy was glad the restrictions were lifted, honestly. As much fun as their initial game of cat-and-mouse had been, nothing beat seeing how Anzu lit up when it came to her three true loves—and Riri wasn’t referring the boyfriend candidates.

“Well, in that case, while we’re here,” Riri hummed nonchalantly and plucked a certain box from the tempting candy aisle at the checkout counter. “We should get some chocolate pocky, too~”

They had hardly managed to get the sing-song words out of their mouth before the box was snatched from their hands and thrown on the counter. “—Good idea! The more, the better!” And then, Anzu was back to piling more chocolate on the counter, much to the growing shock and concern of the poor cashier.

“…And, and when we get home,” Riri continued, determined to finish their earlier flirtation. “We can shar—”

A hand clapped over Riri’s mouth before the cliché idea could even hope to force itself out, and this time, Riri found themselves with their back to the wall, Anzu pressing them into it hard. If the hand wasn’t silencing Riri well enough, that sharp, murderous glare certainly was. “I’m not sharing any of my chocolate with you, you Devil,” Anzu hissed out a whispered threat. “Don’t you dare try and steal any.”

Anzu pulled away and returned to the counter to finally make the purchase. Riri sunk to the ground, thoroughly swooned, heart pounding in their chest in a way that felt painfully human.

Riri laughed to themselves as they felt something like jealousy flicker through them. They’d never felt genuinely jealous of the human candidates for Anzu’s affection, but what they wouldn’t give to have a fraction of the passion aimed towards them that Anzu had for sweets.

Notes:

Maybe Anzu x Chocolate is the true ship, in the end?
