Work Text:
Santa, tell me if you’re really there
Don’t make me fall in love again
If he won’t be here next year
Throughout the empty cabin, Tim had been blasting Christmas music through his favorite Batman-themed speaker. And since it was the holidays, he placed a Santa hat on top of it as it sat in the living room.
He was the only one at the cabin for the moment, so he figured that he might as well add some last-minute decorations. He put up a Christmas tree and added candy canes, red ornaments, Batman and Robin ornaments, he even managed to find a few of the team and put them up as well.
Once he finished setting up the tree, he added the gifts that he bought for everyone. As he stepped back to view his work, Tim had a satisfied grin on his face. He turned his head towards the speaker, smile growing wider as his favorite Christmas song began to play.
He rushed to his phone, turning the volume up even louder.
“Santa, tell me if he really caaaaress, cause I can’t give it all away if he won’t be here next year,” He sang obnoxiously, skipping to the remaining bag filled with decorations. All that was left was mistletoe. He pulled a piece out and looked at it, thinking of what he could do with it.
Alright, Timmy Drake, what should we do with this mistletoe? We could keep it hidden since no one here is a couple. True. Or we could hang it up in every room hoping to get Dick and Kory to kiss again. Hmm… decisions, decisions…
He pondered for all of five seconds, mischievously rubbing his chin before pointing up a finger, a lightbulb going off in his head.
Of course, I’m putting it up.
Tim began to run around the Cabin, sliding down the hall in his socks, catching himself before he could fall.
“I've been down this road before, fell in love on Christmas night, but on New Year's Day, I woke up and he wasn't by my side,” He sang, placing mistletoe above Kory’s door, Dick’s door, Conner’s door, Gar’s door, Rachel’s and his. He even put some on the inside of their rooms.
After finishing up the bedrooms, Tim came back out to the living room and hung one up over the front door, in the kitchen, living room, and above the patio door, since Dick and Kory enjoy the patio so much .
The last piece of mistletoe was placed and Tim looked around the room, satisfied, “Timmy Drake’s Christmas wonderland is in full effect, baby!” He said to himself.
Moments later, Rachel entered the home with snow all over herself. She was bundled up in a black coat, and black and white scarf. Tim turned to her with a smile.
Rachel furrowed her brows as she looked at him, she then viewed her surroundings, nodding her head as she was impressed, “Timmy Drake’s Christmas wonderland?”
“Timmy Drake’s Christmas wonderland!” He nodded in response to her question, the widest grin on his face. Before Rachel could fully walk into the living room, Tim rushed to her and placed a friendly kiss on her forehead.
Rachel’s eyes widened as she looked at him, “Tim, you know I love you. But what the hell was that?” She questioned while rubbing his cooties from her forehead.
Tim, still sporting his signature grin, pointed up to the mistletoe. The two of them looked up at the same time.
“Tim, what is that?”
“That’s mistletoe. God, you people really don’t know what fun is, ” He said to himself.
“No, Tim, why is it here?” She looked at him.
He returned the look, but had a bit of confusion on his face, “It’s part of my master plan to get Dick and Kory together. It’s pretty genius, right?”
“No,” She stepped into the living room, noticing more was placed around the house, “I don’t want to see Dick and Kory kissing or Conner and Gar!”
He turned in her direction, still confused, “Why would Conner and Gar be kissing?”
Rachel looked at him, clearly irritated by his lack of understanding, “You’re unbelievable.”
“Wait! Are Gar and Conner a thing?!” His eyes widened as he walked over to her.
Rachel tuned him out and stood on top of the coffee table, pulling the mistletoe down, “How are you one of the smartest ones here, but the slowest at the same time?”
“Now, that’s just rude. And hurtful! I took my time setting this all up,” he explained.
“Yeah, yeah and it looks great,” Rachel said as she walked past him, heading for the other pieces of mistletoe that were in the area. She continued to pull more down and stopped once she felt Tim staring at her.
“Well? Do you want to see Gar and Conner kissing all holiday, or do you want to help me pull the mistletoe down before they make it back inside?”
Tim imagined what that would look like and quickly made a face of disgust, “I’ll take option two for a photo with Batman.”
“Tim.”
“I’m on it,” He said as he quickly ran into the kitchen, climbing on top of the counters, pulling down any piece of mistletoe that was around.
Gar and Conner were outside building a snowman. Conner placed the stick arms on the side of it, and Gar finished it off with a carrot in the middle of its face. The two of them stepped back, admiring the work that they had done.
Dick had been on the opposite side of the yard with his phone in hand as Kory stood in the road, posing for a picture.
“How many more of these do I have to take?” He whined as he looked at her.
“Just a few more,” She said, switching her pose to an over-the-shoulder.
“And then will my punishment be over?” He asked, snapping another photo.
Kory couldn’t help but laugh at him, quickly nodding her head, “Yes, Grayson. Your cruel punishment of taking a few photos of me will be over.”
“A few? I took 20 and you said to take 200 more,” He smiled, shaking his head.
She tilted her head, giving him a glare with a slight smile, “Should I triple that amount?”
“No!” He quickly said. She raised a brow watching him clear his throat.
“I mean, no. We wouldn’t want you to freeze to death, now would we?” He attempted to clear his previous statement.
Kory’s smile turned into a smirk. She walked over to him and grabbed her phone from his grip, whispering past him, “Nice save, but we both know that’s impossible.”
She caressed his cheek before making her way up the driveway, towards Gar and Conner. Dick just stood there, watching her.
Damn.
“Looking good, boys,” Kory stated, viewing their snowman.
“Thanks, Kory. I think this might be our best work yet,” Gar said before giving Conner a high five.
Conner looked behind them to view their 12 failed attempts, “Yeah… these other attempts remind me of Cadmus.”
Dick had joined them, hearing the remark which caused everyone to go silent.
“Guys, I’m just joking!” Conner laughed, shaking his head.
“Oh, right!” They forced a laugh. Dick motioned to the door as he rubbed his freezing hands together.
“How about we join Tim and Rachel for some Hot Chocolate.”
“Yes, please. But only if Gar makes it,” Kory added as they turned for the front door.
Back inside, Tim and Rachel had been in the bedrooms pulling down the last bit of mistletoe that they could find.
“Motion detected at the front door,” Tim’s speaker said, notifying him and Rachel that the group was about to enter the cabin.
“They’re here!”
The duo quickly ran out of the bedrooms and to the living room, shoving the final pieces of mistletoe back into their bags.
“Act natural!” Tim said, throwing the bag of mistletoe behind the couch as he stood in front of the door. Rachel rushed to the couch and kicked her feet up on the coffee table, per usual. Tim didn't know what to do, so he settled for a hand on his head and another on his waist, posing like a statue.
The door opened and the group walked inside.
“What’s wrong with my hot chocolate?” Dick asked, looking at Kory and the two boys.
Conner and Gar shared a look that read, let’s stay out of this one.
Kory shrugged her shoulders, “All I’m saying is that it lacks a bit of flavor… and sweetness… and color?” Her voice going quiet after each word.
“Hey, guys!” Tim blurted out, “Funny seeing you here.”
Dick and Kory shared a look before Dick looked back at Tim with narrow eyes.
“Uh, hey, Tim. Why is it funny? We live here.”
“Yeah, yeah. I know. I’m just… happy to see you guys, that's all.”
Rachel face palmed at his failed attempt to act natural.
Dick and Kory shared another look before dispersing from the group, going in opposite directions.
“I’ll check the basement,” Kory spoke.
“I’ll check the bedrooms,” Dick responded.
Gar and Conner just stood there looking at Tim who now had his eyes on them.
“Tim, you okay, buddy?” Gar asked with an awkward smile.
“No, I'm not okay! Why didn’t you two tell me that you were dating?”
Their eyes widened, scrambling for an excuse. They quickly forced a laugh.
“Whaaaatt. Us. Dating? That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard,” Conner said.
“Conner wishes he could have all this. I'm way out of his league,” Gar motioned to his body. Conner looked at him, a bit offended but kept his reaction to a minimum.
“So you two aren’t dating?” Tim asked, awaiting confirmation.
“Nope.”
“In his dreams.”
They both said.
“Oh, okay. Carry on then,” he turned away from them and took a seat on the couch next to Rachel.
“I totally nailed it. Dick and Kory don’t suspect a thing!” He put his hand up, awaiting a high-five from Rachel.
“Uh huh,” Rachel smiled and high-fived him.
Gar and Conner had snuck to Conner’s room and looked around to make sure that nothing was out of place, suspecting Tim did something.
"Out of your league? Really?" Conner questioned.
"Hey, I had to come up with something quick," Gar said as he was on the floor, checking for anything under the bed.
“All clear,” He said as he stood up from the ground.
Conner stepped out of the closet with a piece of mistletoe in his hand, “Uh, Gar?”
“Yeah?”
“What’s this?” He held up the piece of mistletoe.
Gar looked at it, smiling at it then at Conner, “I can show you better than I can tell you.”
He closed the bedroom door with a smile-turned-smirk.
Down the hall, you could see a relieved Dick and Kory meeting up from their search.
“Find anything?” She asked.
“Nothing. You?”
She shook her head as they walked down the hall, “Nope. I guess Tim’s just in that awkward teen phase. Does every human teen have one of those?”
Dick thought about it as they entered his bedroom, “Mmm… Rachel didn’t.”
Kory placed her finger on her chin, “Random outbursts of emotions, random attitudes, sarcastic responses, going out on her own despite what her guardians say? Yeah, that’s not Rachel at all,” Kory teased.
Dick laughed as he sat down on the bed, beginning to remove his snow boots, “I guess I’m the only one that didn’t have an awkward phase.”
Kory side-eyed him as she sat down on the opposite side, removing her own shoes, "I find that hard to believe.”
“And why is that?” He turned to her as a few giggles escaped her lips.”
“Well…” She started but lost her train of thought as she saw a tiny branch poking out from under the bed, she grabbed it and examined it, “Dick…”
“What?”
She turned to him with the branch, “Are you smoking?”
He did a double take, looking at the branch, laughing once he realized what it was.
“No, uh, that isn’t marijuana,” A smirk appearing on his face.
She narrowed her eyes, wondering why he was smirking, “Then what is it?”
“I think we found what Tim was hiding, Mistletoe.”
“And that is?”
“How about you close the door and I’ll show you.”
