Chapter Text
Pix was running. He wasn't sure how long it had been since he had last slept. Maybe days, maybe weeks, it felt like it had been months. He wasn't sure where he was running to or what he was running from, all he knew was that The Vigil had told him to run, and so he ran. He was nearly out of breath and his legs were screaming with pain, Pix realised that he would have to stop sometime soon or he would end up passed out on the road side from over exertion. All Pix knew about his location was that he was nearing a town. He had no idea what town it was, but he could see the lights at the bottom of the hill. Pix decided that the best idea would be to head to the town and see if there was a place he could stay for a night. His backpack weighed heavily on his shoulders and the world swayed in front of his eyes.
He passed a sign at the entrance to the town, it read "Royaume" which he presumed was the name of the town. Pix thought he may of heard of the town, but he has far to tired to care.
A young woman on a bicycle rode past him and stopped, why was she out at this time? it was well past midnight. "Are you alright?" She had a kind voice but her eyes seemed to have a harsh light. "No, can you please help me?" Pix's voice was shaky from exhaustion. "Come with me, I know what to do." He was tired and just followed her. If it was dangerous, he knew how to fight and had a small flick blade in his pocket he could use if it became necessary.
She lead him through the town to a building with tall gates, written on them in cast iron lettering was "règne" Pix knew that it was French but for what, he did not know. Beyond was a tall, large, red-brick building, it looked like a school but Pix couldn't think of why she would be taking him to a school.
He followed her through the front door and she took him into a small room, just to the side of a reception room. There was a sofa and a small desk, it was well lit and the was were painted a soothing olive green. She pointed to the sofa and told him he could sleep there. Pix found the hospitality suspicious but was to desperate for rest to question it.
The next morning, when Pix woke up there was food on the desk and a note. "I'm just through the door, let me know if you need anything." Pix was starving, he ate the food quickly and went through the door. The woman was sat at a chair, now he wasn't so tired he was able to take a closer look at her. She had light brown hair that reached the small of her back, but she had tied it back with a ribbon. Her eyes were a purple-blue and she was quite thin. The woman was wearing an oversized plum coloured sweater and a pair of baggy white jeans with some brown leather boots.
"How are you?" She asked, sitting up in her seat. "I'm good. What is this place?" Pix was looking around, and now that he was more awake he saw that it defiantly was a school. "It's a school for people who are magical. Like you." Pix flinched. "How did you know that?!" He was trying not to yell as he backed towards the door. "The Vigil spoke to me, it happened last night, while you were asleep. He wishes for you to go to règne, It's your choice but the academy will provide anything you need."
Pix considered this for a while, The Vigil had told him that there was a place he could be safe, and maybe this was it. As he thought on his decision, he felt The Vigil's presence at the back of his mind. The Vigil would rarely communicate with words away from the altar but instead it would convey intentions. He could feel it urging him to stay, Pix sighed, knowing his life was about to take a turn, whether it would be for the better or worse was a whole new story.
"I think it might be best if I stayed." The woman smiled and stood. "Thats good to hear. Well, my names Violet. The Vigil referred to you as Pixlriffs, but I'll need your full name and age. For the school system." She spoke quickly, her voice full of excitement, her kindness made Pix fell embarrassed for being so doubtful earlier. "I'm Pixlriffs Kessler. Everyone just calls me Pix and I'm 12. What are the classes like here?" She smiled and opened her laptop to begin typing something. "You will be the first in a new class. The school board decided to expand. You will be in e1. In your year there is also hc8 and some smaller ones. Though I doubt you will interact much except in charity events, if at all. But of course, out of class you can talk to whichever students you like." Pix frowned, being alone was good when he was working, but after a few days he knew he would be desperate for more people. "What about trips into town?" "If you wish to visit Royaume then it is a privilege that may be revoked due to bad behaviours or if you are untrusted. Though I doubt that will be an issue for you, it is preferred if when people visit the town they go in a group, but that is not a necessity" Pix smiled a little, this school was definitely weird, and most likely suspicious but The Vigil sent him here for a reason and he felt like he just might enjoy whatever happens next.
