Chapter 1: They Always Say Rabbits' Feet are Lucky, Well That May Not Be the Case This Time.

Chapter Text

His light steps echo throughout the long, pillared and carved halls, gold flecked marble under his feet. The tall black and gold walls were balanced with tall windows laden with blood red curtains between a corinthian pillar or so. The balance of his steps are intentional, alerting the boss of bosses easily.

Alerting her.

He stops at the foot of the long, graceful staircase, a red carpet flowing down it.

At the very top stood a large golden throne, (extra as ever) a tall petite lady sat atop.

At first glance, she was almost non-threatening.

Almost.

“Hello there, Biddly-bunny boo!” She exclaimed cheerfully. He nodded in greeting.

“Big Mama.”

“I have a new mission for you!”

-----

Leo and his brothers were finally taking a break. After the Shredder attack, they were safe.

The more minor villains were taking breaks after the whole ‘individual kidnapping and teaming up’ situation.

So now the four brothers were enjoying the midnight summer breeze from atop of a large building overlooking New York, their home.

Leo smiled from where he sat on the roof box, taking in the feeling of safety and a finality of just calm for the first time since the whole situation.

Mikey sighs contently from where he lays, spreading out his limbs in ease.

Raph grinned from where he was propped next to the boy.

Donnie, meanwhile, was sitting on the edge of the roof, kicking his feet against the side of the building.

“How ya feelin’ DonTron?” Leo asks. Donnie glances behind him and at Leo.

“I’m fine. Just thinking.”

“Dee, if your mind is going through repairs and tech stuff I swear to-”

“What Mikey- sorry, Dr. Delicate Touch, is trying to say, just take a moment to breathe.” Raph chided, placing a hand on Mikey’s head.

“But-”

“Donnie, you need to be your best self to make the best repairs, okay?” Leo interrupted.

Donnie paused before sighing, nodding slowly.

“Fine. You're right.” Donnie stood and moved to where Leo was sitting, using his robotic arms to climb up next to the boy.

Satisfied, Mikey laid back down, Raph following his motions.

Leo smiled softly at the two stargazing what little stars New York had to offer when he glanced at his twin brother.

His smile fell at the wide-eyed stare his brother was giving at… nothing really. He seemed more focused on another sense.

“Dee? What's wrong?” Leo whispered quietly, tensing.

Donnie hushed him, before going quiet again.

A few heart beats later Donnie leaned close to Leo, whispering his ear.

“I think we’re being watched.”

Leo froze, eyes widening.

He silently thanked his ancestors that Raph made them learn sign language for missions and when Donnie had his silent days.

‘Where’

Leo signed.

‘The left building’s fire escape, fifth one up. Hiding behind the fire escape’s stairway.’

Donnie signed back quickly.

Leo nodded before turning back to the other brothers.

“Hey, I’ll be right back. I'm gonna get snacks.” Leo called to them.

Mi key cheered while Raph nodded, slightly awkward from how he was laying.

Leo stood and grabbed his twin katanas and vanished in a flurry of blue.

Only a few seconds later he was being thrown off of the fire escape on the other building, holding on for dear life.

He grunted, beads of sweat falling from his face as he struggled to keep his grip. Leo had originally thought he could take this guy with the element of surprise, but turns out, they had been expecting him. Or just prepared.

“I can read sign, Kappa.” The figure hummed, walking out of the shadows.

Leo felt his grip slip just a little more.

The guy he was facing was a tall white rabbit Yokai, wearing a maroon hakama and a pale teal kimono. His long ears were tied back with a red strip of fabric, along with black fingerless gloves. The rabbit had red eyeliner lining his under eye, having a good contrast with his brown eyes.

“I didn’t expect you to be so scrawny.” The rabbit mused, leaning over the railing, propping himself on his elbows to get a better look at the red-eared slider.

He narrowed his eyes slightly at the turtle.

“Odd markings. Interesting.”

“I-I’m a red-eared slider! I have odd markings!” Leo huffed from where he was hanging.

“Different from what I’m used to.” The rabbit ducked his head, now almost eye to eye with him now.

“Get away from my brother!” Suddenly the rabbit whipped his head up, eyes sharp and shoulders tense. In the split second he had, the rabbit seemed to gather information and just as quickly as the twin nunchucks rapidly approached, he grabbed something from his side and flung it at the incoming weapon.

Leo’s jaw dropped as the item the rabbit threw clung to the mystic weapon and he pulled back on the item’s string .

Now in the rabbit’s hand, the nunchucks were merely tossed to the side.

Since Leo had such a wonderful close view, he could see that the small mystic magnet was… a YO-YO???

WHAT??

Okay, so this rabbit had a magic child’s toy, so what? And so what if he was currently launching himself at his brothers-

Wait-

Oh god.

While the rabbit was distracted, Leo pulled himself back up. He shook out his hands, breathless.

He whipped his head around to find Mikey’s nunchucks but couldn’t seem to find his katanas.

His head whipped up at the sound of metal clashing.

He turned to see his brothers fighting the rabbit on the roof Leo was originally on.

Though the rabbit was outnumbered, it slowly looked to be that they were the ones in an unfair fight.

The rabbit fought in a way that resembled a dance, not unlike Leo’s own style of fighting.

He bared a katana along with that, *sigh*, stupid yo-yo.

An odd feeling, akin to dread, wrapped around his chest and squeezed.

His brothers were going to be killed by this tall, light footed, yo-yo wielding rabbit.

But man, this guy fought so well.

Leo shook his head rapidly.

Concentrate! You have to find your swords!

He looked over the rail, scanning around in case his swords had fallen.

Nope. Nu-uh. Nada. Hmm. There!

One of his katanas landed in a dumpster directly below the fire escapes.

Leo snatched up the nunchucks and stuffed them into his satchel before making his way down to retrieve his sword.

His brothers need him. He could find the other sword later but for now he needs to help.

Once Leo landed on the hard concrete, he snatched his sword and portaled as quickly as he could behind the roof box atop the building his brothers were on.

He peeked around the corner only to see his brothers tied up with the yo-yo’s string, their remaining weapons tossed to the side.

Leo gulped.

What.

This rabbit dude shows up out of nowhere and bests them just like that? How does that work?

And here Leo thought they’d finally had a break.

He froze when he saw the rabbit sheath his katana, only to pull out another katana from a spear sheath.

Sorry, Leo’s katana! How dare he?

The rabbit seemed to study it when Mikey yelled out.

“That's not yours! You can't use it!” Mikey lashed out, straining against the surprisingly strong silver string. The rabbit eyed the box turtle before sheathing the katana once more.

“Don’t worry, you guys will have a lovely reunion soon, but until then, someone wants to see you. Y’know, have a little reunion of her own.” The rabbit Yokai smiled before pulling out his phone.

“Hey, British Fox? Yeah yeah, that's not your name, whatever. I’ve got them. The blue one ran off but from what I gathered from the big B is that he’s not very climatic. Yeah. I’ve got one of his swords and the other weapons. The nunchucks though… yeah. It's fine. Can you come for pick up? Thanks. Mkay, bye.”

British fox? Big B? A reunion of her own?!

Oh no. He was taking them to Big Mama.

He needs a plan and stat.

Almost immediately a helicopter was above them. Leo didn't have time to plan!

He launched himself at the rabbit, shifting his stance so he wouldn’t be knocked off the roof by the propellers.

Immediately he and the Yokai engaged in a tense spar. Leo was partially blinded by the flaring lights from above and was vaguely aware of his mask tails whipping back in forth along with the current of the wind.

Back and forth went the bandana.

Back and forth went the blades.

Back and forth went the sharp slicing of steel against steel.

Back and forth went their feet, stance changing to accommodate one another.

Leo didn’t realize until now that he was a better match to fight the Yokai until now. They both had a more of a dance to their fighting style, both had a katana or two and both were characteristically cocky.

“You fight well for a kappa!” The rabbit shouted over the wind as their swords parried.

Leo twisted behind the Yokai and aimed for the rabbit’s legs when he matched the move, blocking it easily.

“Well you fight well for a bunny!” Leo hissed back, just loud enough over the wind. Leo did rapid swings with his swords, trying to get the Yokai on defense.

“You’re quicker than a house turtle. Thats something!” The Yokai sneered, before glancing to where Leo’s brothers were.

Wait.

Oh no.

Leo’s eyes widened as he whipped his head up to the helicopter and his heart dropped.

He watched as his brothers were pulled into the air mobile before whipped his head to the rabbit.

You.” He growled, launching himself at the Yokai.

“Well, my job here is done.” The rabbit grinned before pulling out a small pellet. He threw it to the ground, hard, and it exploded into smoke.

Leo whipped around, smoke growing but the sound of the helicopter blades faded.

No.

No no no NO!

Soon the smoke cleared and Leo was left in his own grief.

He failed. Again but this time at the cost of his brothers.

Leo dropped to his knees and held his lone sword. He bowed his head silently.

Slowly, he set down the sword and reached into his satchel to pull out the dual nunchucks.

“I’m so sorry.” He murmured, bowing his head further to rest on the weaponry. “I promise I’ll get you guys back. If it's the last thing I do."
