Chapter Text

If there was one thing Cuphead and Chalice could agree on, it was to protect Mugsy.

Even if in some cases she was able to take care of herself, there would be some days where she needed their help.

But in this case, Chalice just laughed when her brother explained the so-called ‘danger’ their sister was putting in the last few days.

“Bowlboy is dangerous!” Cuphead insisted. “He is crazy, and weird, and I really don’t want him anywhere near Mugsy!”

“I think if he was actually dangerous, he would’ve proven it by now,” Chalice argued. “We followed them on their fake date thing and nothing happened!”

“Because he knew we were there! I’m telling you, I don’t trust him.”

“Well, what exactly are you going to do about it?” Chalice asked. “You can’t exactly follow them again….you’re not, right?”

“I’d hope not,” Mugsy said as she entered the room.

“Aw come on, Mugsy, I’m just trying to look out for ya. You were creeped out by Bowlboy before, what changed?” Cuphead stated.

“He’s not the Devil in disguise, he’s a person who is capable of change,” Mugsy rolled her eyes.

“I like him, don’t see anything wrong with him. It’s just this ding dong here who doesn’t like him,” Chalice said.

The ding dong in question just groaned in frustration and fell dramatically onto the couch.

Mugsy laughed and headed for the door. “Okay, I’ll be back later. But someday you’ll see he’s harmless!”

Cuphead stayed put until the door had shut and then Chalice had to stop him from getting to the back door.

……

While he didn’t follow his little sister, Cuphead still waited for her.

Chalice would see him look at the clock every few seconds, even if it was still early.

“She’s fine! She called like ten minutes ago,” his other sister said.

“Anything could have happened in ten minutes,” Cuphead replied, glancing at the clock again.

Chalice sighed, she wished there was some way to calm her brother aside from knocking him out or having their sister come back home early.

Because neither of those were an available option.

….or so she thought, at least.

The sound of laughter could be heard from outside.

Cuphead immediately got up, now just waiting for the door to open.

Mugsy came in, smiling and laughing. “I’ll see you tomorrow! Bye!”

She closed the door and waved to herself. “See, Cuphead? I’m fine!”

Her brother was frozen where he stood, frozen in terror.

“M-Mugsy? What- what did you do?” Chalice managed to say.

Cuphead didn’t know what to say, what to think, what to do.

This was his little sister, his baby sister, and she-

She was covered in blood.

Before she could even begin to explain, Cuphead passed out from fear.
