“Um….Cuphead, Chalice, can I talk to you?”
Today was the day, she was gonna tell them.
“Of course,” Cuphead said.
“What’s up with ya, Mugsy?” Chalice asked.
“Well….I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and I recently figured out I’m….not a boy, I’m actually a girl,” she confessed.
There it was, the secret was finally out.
And then….
Both Cuphead and Chalice burst out laughing.
It was a sound that filled her with dread and brought tears to her eyes before they even started talking.
“Aw Mugman, that’s a good one! You know you can’t be anything other than a boy,” Cuphead said.
“Yeah, you’re a boy, and nothing’s gonna change that! You’re just confused but it’s okay, we’ll get you help,” Chalice added.
“W….what kind of help?” the poor little mug asked, trying not to focus on the fact she could feel her heart ripping in half.
“We’re sending you out to the woods! Since you’re a boy, you’ll be okay for a few days out there. That’ll clear your head and stop this whole confusion,” Cuphead replied.
“That’s the only way, Mugman. You need to get over this stupid thing and come back when you’ve gotten over this delusion,” Chalice added.
“And if you haven’t…just don’t bother coming back!”
“Bye!”
She was pushed outside and the door slammed and locked shut behind her.
……..
Chalice had suspected something was up with Mugsy when her sister was no longer sleeping in silence.
She started to whimper quietly and soon it was clear she was crying in her sleep caused by whatever nightmare she was going through.
Cuphead had also woken up at that point, and quickly joined Chalice in trying to wake up their little sister.
“Mugsy, wake up.”
“It’s okay, it’s a bad dream.”
“Wake up, Mugsy, please.”
It took a bit but she did eventually wake, crying her heart out.
Cuphead and Chalice were quick to pull her into a hug.
“It’s okay, we’re here, we’ve got you,” they soothed.
“You’re….you’re not sending me away?” Mugsy said through her tears.
“We would never do that. You’re our sister, and we love you,” Cuphead replied.
“No matter what you face in your nightmares, we’re here in the real world. And we love our little sister,” Chalice added.
Mugsy felt comforted by that, knowing that no matter what happens she would always have her two older siblings by her side.
That was something that would never change.
