Chapter 1: Olympia's Gifts

Chapter Text

The squad goes hard for the holidays. Decorations are everywhere, and cannot be avoided. Celebration is imminent. The soft sounds of the Odd Squad Choir caroling ring throughout headquarters, in what seems to be a winter wonderland of a workplace. Oddness doesn't stop for the holidays, but today is the last day before they leave for a holiday vacation, followed by the most hectic time of the year.

For now, however, they'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Christmas isn't actually Olympia's favorite holiday, however even she'll admit the joy of Christmas is like no other. Plus, who doesn't like giving gifts? So, as she skips into headquarters with a bag of gifts so large Santa Claus himself would be jealous, she's pleased to see everyone's in the holiday spirit.

Partners are exchanging gifts, the smell of gingerbread is coming from the cafeteria, and agents are dressed in the oddest and ugliest sweaters known to mankind. It's thrilling!

Admittedly, not much work gets done, but it's worth it. Olympia makes her way to the lab to deliver her gift to Oona, who's currently drowning in her sweater as she chats with Ocean.

"Morning, Oona! Happy Holidays!" She greets, cheerfully, getting a closer look at Oona's sweater. It's quite well made, actually, an illustration of several events with Oona and (presumably) her Oonabots. "This is for you," She says, pulling out a bright green box from her bag and handing it to Oona. "And this is for you, Ocean." She says, mentally crossing off the two as she gives Ocean his gift.

"Thanks, dude!" Ocean grins, carefully pulling open the envelope. She's pretty proud of his gift, actually. A year long Rent-a-Hammock subscription so there's not a repeat of last year's incident.

Oona chuckles at her gift, mouse traps, before rushing around her lab frantically, looking for... something. She shouts, "Aha!" As she pops up from under a table, a gift box in hand. "Here you go, Olympia, Merry Christmas!"

She reminds herself to open it later and puts it in the bag of presents, before skipping away to find Owen, who's shockingly not on break. "Hey, Owen!" She says, already searching through her bag and producing a navy blue gift box, which she presents to him.

He tears into the box, grinning when he pulls out a candy cane striped baton. "Thanks, Olympia!" He sniffs it. "The peppermint is a nice touch."

"Merry Christmas!" She chirps, already on her way upstairs to deliver the next gift.

"Morning, Olympia." Ms. O greets unenthusiastically, sipping a box of juice and reading a card. "Happy Holidays."

Olympia doesn't let Ms. O's lack of energy dampen her excitement, handing her a purple envelope. "Happy Holidays to you, too, Ms. O!"

"Soundcheck tickets?" She asks in disbelief. Olympia nods, grinning. "Wow, Olympia. Thank you."

She shrugs. "It was no big deal, really."

And with that gift done, there's just one more left to give. Arguably the one she's most nervous for. She takes a deep breath before making her way down to her desk. The only issue is that Otis is nowhere to be found. She's pretty sure he wouldn't have called out today, she hasn't heard anything about him being sick, so maybe he's just been running around delivering gifts, too.

Her suspicions are confirmed when he returns from the lab, taking a seat in his desk. "Oh, there you are." They say simultaneously. "Woah." Again. "Stop doing that!" They shout. "You first!"

They exchange gifts, Olympia opening up the box, Otis taking the paper out of the bag. She laughs when she reads the words 'Spanish Workbook' on the front cover of her gift. "Cool! A brand new New Year's resolution!"

"And a coupon book for the best bread in town." He smiles down at the Shumburger coupon book.

"Fun fact: They do not make those. I went through so many newspapers." She says, a sense of horror in her voice.
