Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter Text

Falling backwards, wrapped in a cloak dark as night he struggled. Memories surrounding him so deafeningly loud. Isabel, Tim, Jen all singing at once in an almost taunting manner as the last of the cloth covered his face.

Then, the most unusual of horns. Gone so quickly he wasn't sure he'd actually heard it in the first place.

“Poppy!" A desperate voice shouted.

A sudden weight on top of him and he straightened his robes enough to actually see now. A big, wet lick is what he was greeted with.

"Prudence?" He asked softly.

“Poppy, get off that poor man. You don't know what he's been through.”

Poppy?

Was this not his beloved Prudence? He saw no differences—

Ah. A white patch on the dog's chest in the crude shape of a star.

"Sorry, she's never like that with anyone. Are you okay?"

"Yes, I'm quite alright." He got to his feet, a bit unsteadily.

"Do you need any help? Any money? Food?"

Why on earth would you ask that?"

"Well, you aren't exactly dressed for the weather."

Ebenezer looked down at his attire and suddenly felt a bit exposed. I don't need money, thank you"

"Why are you talking like that? All... proper."

He gave a confused look. "I speak quite well, thank you.”

"Anyways, you're bleeding. This is actually my apartment right here, let's get you inside and l'il take care of that.”

"What have you put on my face?"

"A bandaid? What else?"

"What on earth is a bandaid?"

You gave the man a bewildered look. "Are you on any drugs—“

"No!"

"Then how do you not know what a bandaid is?" You asked, exasperated.

"Woman, you are speaking in tongues!"

"I'm not the one speaking in ye old english."

He looked insulted. What are you going to do about him?
