Work Text:

Morgana sat at her vanity twisting her jewel bracelets. Where was that girl? Perhaps she had gotten hurt or taken again. Morgana wouldn't know what to do if Guinevere was hurt. No other maid servant was half as efficient. She heard the door open and her back finally untensed. “Finally Gwen darling you're here.” She couldn’t hide the relief that crept into her voice.

A much deeper voice than Guinevere’s answered, “ Sorry Lady Morgana, but I’m not Guinevere,” the voice chuckled,”More a Merlin don't you think.” Morgana whipped around to face Merlin's familiar lanky figure. She tutted to herself the servant robes seemed to consume him. Red crept up her pale neck, but she tried to keep her composure.

“Why are you here?” Her voice filled with more malice then she intended.

Merlin winced and started to rub his neck. At least he had the decency to appear bashful.
“Well I’ve come here to give you a note from your secret admirer.”

Morgana’s eyebrow raised, but she didn't question it. She has been getting notes and gifts from said admirer over the past couple weeks. Her room was bursting at the seams with her favorite flowers, lily of the valley. And if she liked reading notes from said admirer well who could blame her.
He passed her the rolled note. Morgana pulled on the ribbon and unfurled it.

Dear Morgana,
As you probably know I care deeply for you and your happiness. I started writing these letters to let these feelings dissipate. So I could move on, but it seems my heart has different plans. My feelings are just as strong as before. So I ask you one thing: meet me at noon in the flower field. Though I fear you may not like who you find.
Sincerely, Your Beloved Secret Admirer

Morgana rushed to her window and saw the sun was up high in the sky.
Oh no it's a half hour after noon. She took her coat and raced out of the room. If I hurry I could probably catch them before they go.

But what she couldn't see was Merlin smirking at her quick departure. That was until he realized he had to help Arthur with his armor.

She snunk into the palace’s sables though truly nobody had the guts to deny Uther’s ward, and grabbed her horse, Evermore. She petted his glossy black and white coat. "We're going on a little adventure, Evermore. Are you up for it?" Evermore neighed and Morgana took that as a yes. She hopped on his back and whipped the reins. Evermore shot off dashing to the forest. Soon the familiar weathered trees enclosed around her and Evermore. The trees were more spread out the further she went into the forest. Bunches of lily of the valleys dotted their bases. The field was not far behind.

She lifted her left foot from the saddle and slid down Evermore. Spotting a nearby tree Morgana tied his reins around a gnarled tree. She walked to a figure sitting facing away from her. That must surely be her admirer. When she moved closer a sense of calm pervaded through her, it’s Guinevere, her Guinevere. In her purple cloak with her hazy curls glowing in the shining sun. She wasn’t stupid she saw how Gwen looked at her. The affection in her every touch. And that girl couldn’t cover her blush to save her life. Gwen stood to walk away.

“Wait!”

Guinevere turned to face her. Her eyes filled with a mix of sadness and love almost as if she resigned herself to rejection. Morgona rushed up to her, and she couldn't tell who leaned in first. But soon enough her hands were cupping Gwen's face and her lips where on Gwen's. When they pulled away Guinevere was practically a tomato, Morgona laughed.

Gwen looked up with a little hurt in her eyes,”Morgana.”
“It’s not you I'm laughing at darling, but this whole farce. You could have told me.”
Gwen smiled but there was still a little hurt in her eyes.

Morgana took Gwen’s hands, forcing her to look at her.”I would never laugh at you darling.”

Gwen smiled,“I’m just in shock. How could you love me and I didn’t notice”

“I was never an open book.”
They sat in the field. Guinevere looked at her so softly Morgana thought she would fall apart.

“Can I kiss you?” Gwen asked.

Morgana felt heat on her neck. She sputtered out her affirmative reply.
“Not so closed off now are you,” Gwen had the audacity to smirk.

They both didn't go back to the palace. At least not that day when the only people they needed were each other, and the only noise they heard was their laughter echoing across the field.
