Drop the Act

Summary:

“Yes. I do. You can feel it. You make my heart race and I daydream about you constantly.”

They were only centimeters away from each other now. Izuku could feel the small puffs of air that Eijirou was breathing out on his face. When did that happen? Izuku was so lost in this confession-not-confession-but CONFESSION he forgot that they were performing in front of the rest of the class. It was like there was a bubble around them as they performed. His eyes were locked on to his scene partners.

Notes:

So I had a plot bunny that wouldn't get out of my head. This is also for my beta-reader! You are amazing and I'm so happy that you deal with me as much as you do.

Enjoy some fluffy fluff.

Work Text:

When Izuku and his friends got to class that afternoon, Aizawa was standing on the stage and waited for them to quiet down.

“Good, you all are getting better. Today we will be doing improv scenes.” The class was filled with excitement at the news. They don’t do a lot of improv in Aizawa’s class since his classes tended to be more on the mechanics of screenplay but he always made it fun.

“Up first will be Kirishima and Midoriya.” The two students that were called out made their way up to the stage and waited for the topic that they would be acting out.

“Okay we need a place.” Aizawa drawled out.

“Oh! Oh! It should take place in Tokyo on New Year's Eve!” Denki suggested.

“Good, that gives them a time and place, now we just need a goal or objective.”

“It should be a confession of sorts! It also fits in with the New Years eve theme.” Mina added slyly.

“Good, that gives them something to go off of. Now your characters will be up to you.” Aizawa motioned for them to take their start.

“O-okay!” Izuku stared at the red head in front of him and figured he would start them off with something easy... They both might be in acting school but starting off simple to get in the swing of things always seemed to be easier. Especially if his crush was making him so unsure about everything right now. They could work their way up to something else as the scene went on. Swallowing the lump that was currently in his throat he started their scene.

“Kirishima, I have something to tell you.” He looked down at his feet and willed a blush to raise to his face. Not that it was hard. He often thought of memories that had a similar emotion to help him show them properly, but here he would just project his true feelings into the scene. He fidgeted with his hands as Kiri faced him.

“Call me Eijirou.” The words were soft and light. It made his heart skip a beat. His mouth was a little dry as he continued to speak.

“Then you can call me Izuku.” he said equally softly. He had kinda wished that this was actually happening and not because of a scene but he would take what he could get at this point. Projection can go both ways, right?

“R-Right. Eijirou, I have something to tell you.”

“What is it, Izuku?” The way his name rolled off Eijiruo’s tongue made the butterflies in his stomach surge. A small shiver went down his spine, and he continued with their scene.

“I’m not sure how to say this but... I like you!” he got the words out in a rush. He raised his hands to cover his face. The blush that was already there is now becoming even more pronounced. A small tap on his exposed wrists had him peeking out from his fingers.

Eijirou’s face had a small, warm smile. His eyes were soft as they looked into Izuku’s. He swears that he could get lost in the crimson red of Kiri’s eyes if given even half a chance.

“Then I guess it’s a good thing that I have a crush on you as well.” His heart almost came to a full stop. Bad Izuku! This is just a scene!  He thought to himself. Either way, he slowly let his hands fall down to uncover his face, and with wide eyes and hope in his voice replied,

“Really?” He took a small step closer to his acting partner. He was surprised when Eijirou grabbed his hand from his side and placed it over his heart. He felt the strong beat of the other's heart under his finger tips. And was shocked to feel that it was beating about as fast as his own surely was.

“Yes. I do. You can feel it. You make my heart race and I daydream about you constantly.” They were only centimeters away from each other now. He felt like the crimson irises were boring holes into his and it felt like they could see straight into Izuku’s soul. Izuku licked his lips and his eyes flicked down to Eijirou’s lips and back up to his eyes. Kiri followed the motion and smirked.

In a low voice, that sent more shivers down his spine, Eijirou asked him,

“Izuku, can I kiss you?” Not trusting his voice, he just nodded. Izuku tilted his head up and met the other half way. Their kiss was everything that Izuku had thought that it would be but not at the same time. When their lips touched he was not at all surprised to find that his lips were warm and soft. There was also a hint of sweetness from the cake that they had been eating earlier at lunch.

Izuku’s hand that had been on Eijirou's chest slid up to go around his neck. Pulling them closer together. Eijirou’s hands had also moved from their previous position. They slid around Izuku’s waist and it made Izuku dizzy from all the contact. He could feel their hearts beating in tandem with each other with how close they were.

Izuku was the one to break the kiss and smile. Eijirou leaned his forehead against Izuku’s and smiled as well.

“I think we need to talk in my dorm room after this.” he whispered to Izuku. Flying high of the fact that he had just kissed his crush he just nodded. He would find out later if that was apart of the scene or not. They shared another small sweet kiss but were roughly pulled from there own little world when somebody in the class clapped once and called

“Scene!” Izuku startled a little bit and reluctantly retracted his arms from around the other neck. They turned to face the class side by side and gave a small bow.

“Oh my gosh! That was sooo good! It’s no wonder that you're interning under Director Nezu!” Mina bounced up and down in her seat as she said her feedback.

“Yeah, serious Mido! That was so good! You got into character so quickly and it was so believable!” Momo added on. Izuku blushed from the praise that he was getting from his classmates. He didn’t think that he was as good as they were telling him but he took the compliments anyway.

“And Kiri! The way you asked for consent?! That was hot!” Denki shouted from his spot in the theater. Eijirou blushed and rubbed the back of his neck with the hand that was not holding onto Izuku’s.

“It’s just unmanly to not ask, you know?”

“You both did very well. Midoriya, I’m glad to see that you're becoming more confident in being on stage. You’ve come a long way from where you were at the beginning of the year. Kirishima, you still need to work on stage awareness. You were three quarters turned away from the audience most of the time and while it may have worked with this scene and the closeness of the characters, just keep it in mind for future scenes.” Aizawa told them as he flipped through the notes that he had been taking. They both nodded at the feedback and made their way back to their seats.

They sat down next to each other and watched as the rest of their class went up and did their scenes. Izuku wasn’t able to pay attention to them though, because Eijiruo still had his hand wrapped around Izuku’s. His thumb would rub the back of his hand every now and then causing him to lose his train of thought. Izuku snuck a glance out of the corner of his eye and was pleased to see that Eijiruo was also looking at him. Izuku smiled and squeezed his hand. He felt a squeeze back and turned his attention to their classmates. And for once, he couldn't wait for classes to get out.

The rest of the class was easy. They all went up and did their scenes and Izuku was happy to see that everybody had been improving. Even Aizawa said as much to the class. It was rare for the man to praise the class like he did today but it made it more special when he did. When Aizawa dismissed all of them, Izuku packed up his things and started to head out.

A hand on his arm stopped him. He turned to see Eijirou (can he still call him that? Or was that just for the scene?) looking at him expectantly.

“Hey I was hoping that we could talk?”  Izuku nods and lets himself be led away from the class building. “Oh that was not an act then” Izuku thought to himself. Did he actually mean what he said during the scene then? Or was this something else? Should he be worried?

They made it to Eijirou’s dorm room and he held the door open so that Izuku could go in first. Izuku expressed his thanks as he went in. The door is shut softly behind them as they both stand in the room, awkwardly waiting for the other one to speak first. Izuku hopes that this isn’t Kirishima trying to reject him privately. But at the same time he’s thankful that it wouldn't be in front of the whole class.

“About that kiss...” Kirishima trails off. Izuku shifts from foot to foot. Both wanting to hear what the other boy would say but also dreading it at the same time.

“I’m sorry if it made you feel uncomforta-” Izuku started, when he couldn’t take the deafening silence anymore, but was cut off by Kiri’s hand over his mouth.

“That’s not it at all, Izuku.” He didn't remove his hand from Izuku’s mouth as he swallowed and started again.

“What I’m trying to ask is, did you mean it?” Look in Eijiro’s eyes was imploring. Almost begging him to say that he meant it. So he nods. It's the truth after all. Izuku had meant everything that he said earlier in their scene. He didn’t want to lie to the boy in front of him. The hand that was covering his mouth moved so that it was now cupping his jaw. Eijirou exhaled a sigh of what Izuku thinks is relief.

“Good, cause I did too.” His voice drops lower as he continues, “I wasn’t lying when I told you that I daydream about you. About us. I’ve had a crush on you ever since that first scene that we did at the beginning of our first year here.”

Izuku smiles and blushes at the memory of the scene. It was a simple one. It was an ice breaker that a lot of theater companies used to get the actors laughing and their energy up and going at the beginning. The game was simple and called Wa. It would start with one person having the energy of Wa and they would raise their arms above their head with their hands together and shout ‘WA!’ The two people on either side would use the same hand motions but in a cutting motion towards the holder's stomach. From there it would get transferred to anybody else in the circle. When it got transferred, the new holder would yell out ‘WA!’ and the two people beside them would also repeat the same actions as earlier. It got harder and harder as the game went on. But that’s what made it fun in Izuku’s opinion. (Later on Aizawa added that if you dropped the energy of Wa you were out. It got very heated after that and Izuku may or may not be the reigning champion of Wa.)

But it wasn’t the game that Izuku knew Eijiruo was referring to. It was the fact that they all got a little too into it towards the end and Izuku had accidentally hit him in the stomach with his hands when Eijiruo got Wa, causing him to get the breath knocked out of him. Izuku was still embarrassed about that as he stuttered out,

“I di- I sai-  hnnng!” He tries to hide his face in his hands - again - but is stopped by gentle hands on his wrists.

“Hey hey, no need to hide that beautiful face from me.”

“Bea-bea-BEAUTIFUL?”  Izuku stutters out. He knows that his face is the same color as Eijiruo’s hair now.

“Yes, beautiful.” A small kiss is placed on his cheek. Izuku isn’t sure what to say about that.

“So beautiful in fact, I would love it if you would let me show you off as mine. Izuku Midoriya, would you please be my boyfriend?” Izuku is smiling so wide that his face hurts. But he can’t seem to stop. Not that he wants to anyways. He stands up on his tiptoes so that he can reach his boyfriends face and places a kiss onto his lips.

“I would love that.”
