Work Text:
John walks into the kitchen, and Sherlock is doing another experiment despite it being Christmas. He still can’t believe Sherlock is here, alive and not dead. When Sherlock stumbled back into his life, he was angry at Sherlock for deceiving him, making him believe he was dead. After Sherlock and Mycroft separately explained to him why he let go of his anger, he did what he promised himself he would do if Sherlock ever came back. He broke up with Mary, not that they had been dating long, and he told Sherlock that he wanted them to date. Sherlock was surprised to say the least, he thought John would never admit that he liked him that way and that he would marry and have kids while Sherlock looked on from the outside, longing and broken-hearted. That was two years ago. For two years, they’ve been a couple, and John is the happiest he’s ever been. And the sex is great, which is a big bonus.
He fidgets with the box in his pocket. He is nervous; it is not every day you ask the love of your life to marry you. He knows Sherlock loves him, but there is this fear that one day he will get bored with John and leave. Sherlock looks at John, “Yes, I’ll marry. I love you, John and I will never bore of you.” John looks at him, mouth wide open, “How did you? You know, never mind. Of course you’d know.” Sherlock puts his maggot samples away, he washes his hands and walks over to John. He looks down at his lover, “I didn’t deduce this time. I saw you walk out of the jewelry store, and I know they sell men’s engagement rings because I bought one there myself.” He goes down on one knee, “John Hamish Watson, you are the love of my life. Will you marry me?” He opens a box, revealing a simple silver band.” John laughs, he gets down on one kneem he opens his own box, it has the same ring, “Yes, I’ll marry you, if you'll marry me.”
Sherlock smiles and nods, "Of course I'll marry you." He tackles John to the ground and kisses him soundly.
