Work Text:
The Winter Solstice was a yearly event celebrated in the City of Mondstadt. It celebrated family, it celebrated friends, and it celebrated the turning of a new year.
The Knights of Favonius always planned an enormous party for the people of Mondstadt, which was usually filled with typical festivities, such as games, activities, and prizes of course! That, alongside lots and lots of… drinking.
Eula had found that she had grown tired of the festivities, and decided to go outside for some fresh air.
It was quiet — much quieter than earlier that night. There were no more children running around, pouring heavy amounts of snow on each other. Their laughter was now replaced with an almost calming silence. It was late, and the children were already tucked into bed, eagerly waiting for what the next day would hold while the adults continued to party into the night.
Eula simply stood outside, taking in the beautiful scenery and brief moment of serenity. It truly was an amazing sight.
“Eula, what are you doing out here? You’ll catch a cold!”
Amber lightly jogged over to the Reconnaissance Captain, her footsteps gently crunching against the present snow. The Pyro vision that laid upon her hip glowed a deep orange before a wave of warmth passed between the two.
It was a warmth Eula was quite fond of, and she wouldn’t mind feeling it during this special occasion.
“Eulaaa, you can’t just sneak off like this! What if you-“
The Outrider was gently silenced by the light press of a finger to her lips. Only two words were spoken from the aristocrat.
“Look up,” Eula said softly.
Both of them tilted their heads upwards, a small smile plastering onto Eula’s face while Amber’s opened in awe.
A flurry of snow began to fall from the midnight sky. For a moment, it had seemed time had paused around them, and the only thing in motion were the snowflakes gently cascading down. There was no sound — no sound except for the light breathing of the two women standing side by side, completely enamored by the sight. The sounds of the party behind them had completely drowned out, as if the only part of the world that mattered was here and now. Where the two were currently standing, they were the only ones who mattered in the world.
“Eula, this is… this is unbelievable,” Amber whispered softly, gently lacing their hands together.
Being with the girl Eula cherished greatly, it felt like it was only the two of them being present at this moment in time, watching the enchanting allure of the falling snow. For a moment, even if it was just for a moment, Teyvat was still and peaceful.
Eula would never trade this moment for the world.
Of course, it didn’t last long.
Within the building, several partygoers had noticed the snowfall. Being the drunkards they were, many of them began to pour outside (some tripping over their feet in the process), following in the same awe as the two before them. Small gasps of excitement and exclamation could be heard alongside excessive cheers and claps.
Smiling to herself, Eula looked down on Amber. “Well, it was great while it lasted, hm?”
The Outrider simply smiled back, tightening her grip on the other’s hand. “Yeah, I guess it was.”
Amber paused, gently rising onto her tiptoes. A small, almost nervous kiss was planted on Eula’s cheek before the girl in crimson fell back on her feet, an embarrassed smile apparent on her face.
“Happy Winter Solstice, Eula.”
Eula could feel her cheeks begin to rise in heat. She raised her hand slowly, gently brushing over the spot Amber had kissed before laughing lightly, a fond smile forming on the aristocrat’s face.
“Happy Winter Solstice, Amber.”
