Christmas proposal

Work Text:

Eames is looking at his Christmas tree. It’s a small, cheap one to be put on the table. He doesn’t know why he bought it. It’s not like he cares about Christmas. But Arthur loves Christmas and for him, and he tolerates everything having to do with it. He hoped to spend it with Arthur, but he hasn’t heard from him in eight months. He misses him; this is the longest they’ve been apart since the Fischer job. They finally stopped dancing around each other and took a leap. That was eight years ago. He looks at the clock; it’s close to midnight. Tomorrow is Boxing Day; he and Arthur normally laze around in bed and watch soccer. Looks like he will be alone tomorrow. He hopes Arthur is safe.

-

Arthur stands over Eames. He missed him so damn much; the job took longer than he anticipated. He never wants to be apart from him for so long. He goes into the bathroom and changes into his PJs. He slips into the bed next to Eames. Eames turns around and pulls him close.

-

Eames wakes up and looks at a sleeping Arthur. He blinks. Arthur is still here. He pulls him closer and kisses his temple. Arthur sighs, “Been waiting for you to wake up.” Eames kisses him, morning breath be damned. “I missed you.” Arthur sits up, “I missed you too. I am sorry I had to go off-grid. The job took longer, and we had to be careful.” He pulls his knees to his chest, “I wanted to call you multiple times, but we were being watched. We were able to do the job; turns out the guy who hired us was watching us. He didn’t want us to screw him over. He did pay us double because he was impressed.”

He lies down again and looks at Eames, “I am done. I want that normal, boring life we talked about.” Eames swallows, “Are you sure, love?” Arthur nods, “I had a lot of time to think while I was away. I am tired of being away from you. And it’s not like we need money.”

Eames turns around and rummages through his drawer. He finds what he’s looking for. He turns back to Arthur. He clears his throat and opens a box, “Marry me?” Arthur looks at the silver band, then back up at Eames, “Yes, I’ll marry you.” Eames puts the ring on Arthur’s finger. Arthur puts his arms around him, “We need to get you a ring too.” Eames chuckles, “Look under the pillow.”

Arthur takes the box and pulls out the small pillow. Under it is a similar ring. He takes it out and puts the ring on Eames’ finger. “Can we elope? I don’t want a big wedding.” Eames chuckles, “As long as we don’t get married by Elvis or Han Solo.” Arthur laughs and kisses him, “Merry Christmas Eames.”
