Work Text:
Cyno was putting away his books when he noticed someone sitting alone in a hidden space between all these shelves. He brushed his bangs aside to get a clearer look at the small stack of books but he couldn't see the titles well. Interested in this mysterious person, Cyno walked over.
"Excuse me." He started with first then waited for a response. "Uh, excuse me?" Cyno didn't want to tap the man's shoulder because he wouldn't like it if someone did it to him so he awkwardly stood there until he got a bright idea!
The man averted his eyes from the pages in the book to the new page on the table. However he didn't say a word because he was more confused as to who found him. He found this perfect hidden spot so he was going to protect it.
Cyno smiled at the man then held the paper up because the man didn't even read it. The man continued looking at him then finally at the paper.
"what book are you reading?" It said.
The man held the book out to Cyno so Cyno smiled as he took it to read the synopsis. The man had to bite back a smirk when he saw Cyno's curiosity immediately die.
"Don't like physics?" The man wrote and Cyno quickly shook his head. "Then what type of books do you like- What's your name?""
Cyno took the marker then wrote his name big and clear for the man to remember.
"Then what type of books do you like, Cyno?"
"anything that isn't about physics"
The man stifled a small laugh then nodded. He pushed a chair open beside him then tapped it as an offer for Cyno to sit by him.
"what's your name?"
"Al Haitham"
"do you really understand those books or are you pretending to read?"
"Maybe both"
Cyno shook his head while Al Haitham quietly chuckled to himself. The two continued conversing through sheets of paper which made it difficult for either to focus on reading but talking to each other was more entertaining than any book.
However the only reason the two remaining talking through notes was because both believe the other doesn't speak. Well Cyno thought Al Haitham was deaf because of his headphones which probably were to help his hearing when in reality they are there to block out noise. As for Al Haitham, he believed Cyno was mute because of the first note.
This continued for a few days when one day, Al Haitham's pen ran out of ink. Cyno handed his pen over but the ink wasn't consistent. So the two went to the desk to ask the staff for new pens.
"Um excuse me." Cyno spoke up which surprised Al Haitham. He wasn't mute?! "Can we get some pens?" He continued speaking which made Al Haitham question everything he believed about Cyno.
"Here you two go." The staff held the pens out and Al Haitham grabbed them. They walked back but Al Haitham was a few steps behind because he was still in shock.
Back at their secret table, Cyno had sat down to continue reading, but Al Haitham remained standing.
"You can talk?" That was something Cyno wasn't expecting to hear.
"Yeah?" Cyno answered questionably while turning to face Al Haitham.
Al Haitham was silent before holding a pen out to Cyno.
"Since when?" He asked after pulling the pen away from Cyno's hand.
"Since I was a baby?" Cyno raised a brow then realized Al Haitham started questioning him when his back was to him. "You can hear?"
"Yeah!" Al Haitham gasped as if he realized something. He held a shocked expression for a second before breaking out into a smile. "I-" He couldn't speak because he was trying to contain his laughter.
Well Cyno quickly understood Al Haitham's behavior after looking at the pens. The two had made an assumption of each other due to a piece of paper and were going to believe it to who knows when if it wasn't for the pen running out of ink.
Cyno lowered his head to laugh at himself a little when something poked his head. He looked up and got poked on the cheek this time.
"Well then Cyno, why don't you tell me about yourself during lunch with me?"
"Is that your way of asking me on a date?"
"Maybe."
Cyno rolled his eyes then took the pen. He turned around to scribble on the paper before holding it up in the air.
Al Haitham took the paper and flipped it around to see Cyno had written a time and date.
"Does that work with you?" Cyno asked.
"Yeah." Al Haitham ripped the section out then used Cyno's head to write something on the paper. It took a lot for Cyno not to just move his head to mess up whatever Al Haitham was writing. "See you."
The sheet of paper fell onto the table in front of Cyno.
"You have a really nice voice."
Cyno's cheeks flushed red but when he turned around to look at Al Haitham, he was gone.
