Work Text:

Vil started untangling the hair of the boy whose face was full of freckles. Not everyday a student of Savanaclaw was able to walk in the Pomefiore dorm. But Rook didn’t care, he wasn’t like those other students that hated Pomefiore just because the dorms had some kind of trival rivalry.

Vil felt so nervous, he never thought he would be alone in his room with Rook, that’s why he agreed to prepare Rook for the night, but his roommate left, and they had the whole room just for them. It was a tradition in honor of the great efforts the Beautiful Queen made long time ago, and every year they held a small ball dance in their dorm. When Vil was told about the ball he immediately knew he wanted to go with Rook, these past months talking for hours made him so close to him. And that closeness led to a weird feeling of feeling lonely when the blonde wasn’t around and a warm feeling in his chest every time he remembered the way the Savanaclaw student freely talked. Eventually Vil knew he wanted to spend more time with Rook and so he did by asking him to come to the Pomefiore’s ball.

Vil was so nervous when he asked Rook, but the blonde answered pretty happily that he would love to go and know more about Pomefiore’s beauty and story. So, for the past days instead of talking about the stages and plays it was just Vil trying to teach Rook a few basic manners and how to dance for the awaited day. “Remember, you can’t greet people with saying «Yah ~!»” “Ouch, you need to be careful with your step, Rook.” “Je suis désolée Vil, I’ll try.” And a lot of laughter made those afternoons unforgettable.

Even if Vil wanted to hide it as much as possible his hand was trembling while combing dry and shaggy hair and he pulled Rook’s hair a few times with the comb in the process. But Rook never complained, it hurt, but he was more than eager to have his hair done by Vil. It was more the pleasure of Vil’s lingering touch with his fingers on his hair what he felt.

“I think it’s finally ready for you to wash it, let me give you my shampoo and conditioner.” As Vil left Rook looked at himself in the pretty mirror on the room. “I want to look beautiful for Vil tonight…

“Here, you need to first use this one, and then apply a small coat of the conditioner and let it stand for a few minutes before washing your hair” Vil looked at Rook while he stared at the two small bottles. “Let me show you how you should apply the shampoo.” Vil stood behind Rook and placed his hands on his head and started massaging it. “You need to apply it while making circles with your fingers as I’m doing, okay? Make sure to make lots of foam.” While Vil kept his demonstration Rook hummed in response. “This feels good.” Rook looked genuinely happy, and the words made Vil’s heart skip a beat and a blush started to grow on his face. It was rare to watch Rook that quiet, softly smiling with his eyes closed. Vil stared at their reflection on the mirror. He smiled; he was so happy that Rook had approached him that day.

“Okay, enough, it’s time for you to bath.”

When Rook finished bathing, they went to Vil’s room to complete the look of them both to finally attend the ball. Vil stared at Rook with his damped hair all over his face. “You have really long bangs, mind if I cut them a little bit?” “Oui!” Vil never had cut other people’s hair before, but it was just a little shaping, he slowly cut some hairs and finally Rook’s eyes were all free. “You look so much better when you show your face, you know?” Rook’s new bangs were still carefree and long, but shorter in some areas. “I’m going to apply some makeup to you, you have to be careful and not to touch too much your face or eyes during the ball, so it stays perfect.” Vil watched his concealer tone knowing it wasn’t the same shade of skin as Rook’s. “I’ll need to apply just a bit for it to be subtle.” He thought. As he started to apply the makeup on Rook’s face, he noticed the blonde was barely breathing or moving.

“Aren’t you nervous?” Vil asked. It wasn’t like Rook being so quiet. “I’m so nervous you know, but I’m used to keep my breath steady.” Vil chuckled “Huh, what am I, some animal you’re to hunt?” He went back to his makeup bag to pick some eye shadows and eyeliners and couldn’t watch Rook’s smile growing.

When Vil finished applying the makeup we looked at Rook. He looked so beautiful; it was insane. Of course, he still thought Rook was beautiful in his usual wild state, but he needed to take more care of himself. He moved closer to him to remove the hair pins he put before doing his makeup when Rook caught his hand and softly kissed it. Vil stood there, looking at the blonde being so cute all of a sudden. “Thank you so much for your work Vil, you made me look beautiful for tonight.”

Rook looked at him sincerely. Vil could only smile softly while looking back at him. His heart felt warm, and he loved this feeling. He knew he could trust Rook and his sincere words. “We still need to get changed if we don’t want to be late, let’s go.”

When they both changed into their formal attire, Vil finished his look with his favorite parfum. “I really like how you always smell, Vil.” Rook told him. “Is that so? Thought you said you hated parfum smells?” The blonde shook his head “Non, non.” He said. “I hate it when it’s on my way to hunt, but right now I can appreciate it since my it’s my company’s smells, and it suits you.”

“I know” Vil tied Rook’s hair into a ponytail. “It looks way more elegant this way, then, shall we go?”

Rook was amazed at how beautiful the Pomefiore dorm was decorated for this special occasion. Everyone looked mesmerizing, but they were nothing compared to his partner. Vil looked radiant, flawless. And he couldn’t be happier to be his companion for the ball. Because he knew, he loved Vil. And he wanted to stay next to him as much as possible. He liked that Vil didn’t care of others commenting that there was a Savanaclaw student in the ball, because after all makeover Vil stood proud next to him. And that made him so happy, he was sure Vil wouldn’t have done that for anyone, but he did just for him.

“My beloved Vil, shall we dance?” He offered his hand to Vil. When Vil grabbed his hand, they moved slowly to perform the basic dancing moves Vil has taught him a few days ago. Having Vil grabbed by his waist was making Rook more nervous than ever, it was so small and thin, he feared he may break Vil if he tightened his grab. It was really crowded, but Rook could only focus on the relaxed and beautiful face of Vil as they danced together, as if they were the only ones there.

The music changed into one slow vals, and so they moved closer to each other. Vil with his heels was taller than him, and Rook’s was so close to Vil’s neck. His eyes sometimes betraying him and looking at the pale delicate skin, Vil’s aroma filling him totally and making him lose control until he couldn’t help it anymore and he slowly placed a lingering kiss on the other’s neck, more like a small touch of his lips against the skin. He looked at Vil and found the other blushing all over his face.

“Thank you Vil, I’m so glad I’m the one to be able to be with you here like this.” Vil looked so flustered and was speechless looking at Rook. “I will cherish this moment forever.” “I love you.” But he couldn’t say those words out loud.

“You were the first person I thought I’d like to be with me today, Rook, so thank you for agreeing to all of this, let’s enjoy ourselves tonight.”

And so, they danced and laughed during the ball.

“Ugh, my feet hurt after dancing so much with you.” Vil said while they were going back to Vil’s room to get his things. And just as if Vil weighted nothing Rook lifted him up on his arms.

“I’ll carry you back to the dorm so you can rest your feet for a while.” Rook was so strong and reliable, Vil hugged him strongly and left his head rest on his carrier's shoulder. Rook’s hair smelled like his shampoo and that made him smile. Vil didn’t want this day to end.

When they were back at the room Rook placed Vil on the bed. Then, kneeled in front of him to take off his heels. “Don’t go” Vil thought “I don’t want you to go.” He touched one of Rook’s cheeks with his hand. His thumb caressed his face while they both stared at each other. The expression on Rook’s face could be defined as confused. “Vil-“

Acting on impulse Vil leaned in and kissed Rook. He didn’t know if he did it right because it was his first time kissing someone but still, he felt like he needed it. This warm feeling in his chest couldn’t be anything else but love towards Rook. As soon as he was about to part his lips Rook stood up and climbed on top of him on the bed but this time, he was the one to start a more eager kiss. It felt so good, it felt so right to kiss Rook. When Rook parted, he laid himself on top of Vil. “I’m going to transfer dorms into Pomefiore so I can stand by your side.” “What?” Vil was puzzled. He lifted his head and looked directly into Vil. “I want you to teach me and show me more beautiful moments.” “It’s a hard procedure, Rook…” Even if Vil felt it would be hard to make a change of dorms his heart was beating like crazy at the thought.

“Can I sleep here with you tonight?” Rook asked.

“But first let’s wash our faces and remove all the makeup.”
