What Would I Do Without You?

Summary:

Peter is, yet again, spending another New Years Eve alone. With a cigarette in hand all he wants is for this day to end. That is until he gets an unexpected phone call.

Notes:

The YB Twitter posted a new sketch of Peter and I really wanted to write a continuation of that post. I'm not a great writer but I wanted to write a fluff fic for Peter. Although I've shifted more towards other fandoms, there's still a special place in my heart for him. I hope you enjoy and sorry if this isn't the best fic.

Work Text:

The year was soon coming to an end and, once again, Peter was alone. This wouldn't be so much of an issue since every holiday was spent alone but without his darling present, everything felt more dull.

Taking another long drag of his cigarette, he heard a sudden vibration on his coffe table. Glancing at the source of the sound, he found that his phone was lit up from an incoming call. Blowing out the smoke he had inhaled, he sighed and sat up to retrieve his phone.

"Probably another holiday scam call" he thought out loud.

After picking up his phone, he nearly dropped it after seeing the caller ID.

'My Darling~ ❤️'

His darling was calling him?! This must've been a mistake... or maybe, you meant to call him?

Regaining his composure, he straightened himself up, and accepted the call. For a second there was silence.

His heart began to beat faster.

Maybe this was a mistake. You had butt dialed him or maybe some bastard stole your phone. Peter felt his blood boil at the thought of someone stealing from his precious darling.

As Peter continued to think up possibilities as to why you were calling him, he had heard the sound of someone clearing their throat.

"Hello? Peter? Are you there?"

He couldn't believe it. You actually called him! Of all people! Not the green haired coworker or your pole up the ass landlord, you called him! Feeling a smile immediately creep up, he sighed in content.

"Yes, my love, I'm here. How are you my dear?"

Peter could barely keep his composure, he couldn't stop thinking about you.

"I'm doing great! I hope you're doing well! I'm sorry we were unable to spend New Years Eve together but once I get a day off, we should go on a date. Or uh, if you want to that is..."

'Bless their soul, they're always so considerate' Peter thought to himself.

"Of course, Darling! Any time spent with you is lovely. And to answer your question, I am doing so much better now that you called. I got finished with another video and I'm just relaxing for a bit. Nothing too eventful, it would be better if you were here." He started to think of all the lonely holidays without you and grimaced at the thought.

"...I don't even know how I've lived this long spending holidays like this heh..." He unintentionally muttered to himself.

"..."

There was silence after the response.

'Had I said something wrong? Did they hear that last part? I'm such a dumbass! Damn it, I need to say someth-'

His thoughts were interrupted by a small huff from the other side of the phone.

"Peter!" You whined," Please tell me you aren't moping right now! I know we can't spend the holidays together but I really wish you weren't so hard on yourself."

*slam*

There was a sound on the phone that sounded like something hitting a hard surface.

"I got it!" You piped up again. "My New Years resolution! From here on out, I'll try my best to spend every holiday with you! Annnnnd if I can't, because of work, then I'll spend time with you afterwards! That way you won't feel so lonely!"

*drip*

Peter didn't know when it started but the tears were flowing from his eyes automatically. How in the world was he able to find someone so precious. He felt bad, he could hear you rambling about different holiday dates but at that moment, he was so over joyed by the thought of you being consideration towards him, that he couldn't help but focus on how much he truly loved you.

He sniffed his nose which caused you to stop talking.

"Darling?" He croaked out. It was obvious that he had been crying from the sound of his voice.

In a worried tone, you called his name but were swiftly cut off.

"I'm sorry to cut you off Darling but I just wanted to say that I love you so much and thank you for making my life so much better."

Peter almost couldn't believe how genuine his words were. He felt nothing but pure love for you and the thought of it brought so much comfort to himself.

There was a period of brief silence before you spoke up.

"Peter. I don't think you know how happy that makes me. I love you so much and I really mean it! You mean a lot to me too and I'm happy I met you back at the park. It was like fate let us meet."

Peter could only imagine the smile that was on your face. Hearing you confess was enough to make him let out a chuckle. Not so much a laugh but an acknowledgement of what was said.

You were the first to speak again.

"I'm sorry Peter but I have to get back to work, I don't know why Dad wanted to stay open past closing today. Ugh, something about 'we need to cater to those without loved ones' or something but it's practically a cemetery in here!!"

Peter could only imagine the over the top hand gestured you had made after saying that.

"Oh but anyways, I reaaaaally have to go, I'll be damned if Dad docks my pay because I was 'on my phone during work hours'."

He could almost see the eye roll you gave.

"I love you so much, Peter! Oh and I'll," you gave a small giggle," see you next year!!"

Shaking his head he gave out a genuine laugh at your corny joke. To think you two went from confessing your love to each other to laughing about new years jokes, he almost couldn't believe it.

"I love you too, Darling, and I can't wait to see what the new year brings for us. I'm still looking forward to our New Years date~".

"Of course! You can come over to my place and I can cook you dinner! Oh, I really have to go, Dad just came out of the office!! I love you so so much, by Peter!"

Before he could give a final good bye you had already hung up.

Peter placed his phone back on the table and looked at the long forgotten cigarette in his over hand. The cherry had burned out ages ago. Placing the cigarette in the ash tray he sat back on the couch.

Placing a hand to his chest, his heart was still racing from the phone call. Closing his eyes, he was ecstatic that you reciprocated his feelings. He really couldn't wait for the new year to start. The thought crossed his mind for a bit but he really couldn't imagine what he would do without you.
