Love and Chocolates

Summary:

Katsuki had no intention of confessing her feelings to Deku. She was going to bottle them up like a "normal" person, that is until she overheard that Ochako was thinking of confessing on Valentine's Day. Not on her watch!

Notes:

Hi friends! This was originally a thread on twitter that I've been dying to share here. Hope you enjoy some fun fluff!

Work Text:

Katsuki wasn't going to confess to deku. she was going to bury her feelings for the rest of her life like a normal person.

But then she overheard Pink Cheeks in the bathroom talking to Frog Face.

"I'm going to confess tomorrow for Valentine's day."

No the fuck she ain't. Katsuki always knew that Ochako had feelings for Deku too. It was obvious with the way she'd be all over him sometimes. Fucking skeez. It made Katsuki's blood boil.

Deku was hers! Always has been, since they were kids! She had that leverage. At least, she hoped she did. So fuck that! She was going to confess to him first! But how the hell do you make chocolate?! Also, their kitchen was currently being occupied by all the other girls who were also making chocolate for Valentine's day. Ugh.

...

"It's about time you finally womaned up!" Katsuki's mother barks out a laugh. She teasingly smacked her back.

Katsuki grumbles stirring what looked like lumpy shit in a bowl. She had to practically beg Aizawa for a pass to visit her mom so last minute. She was stuck in cleaning duty for the next week just so she could come home and use her kitchen for this shit but now she was kind of regretting it. She completely had forgotten the nosy hag.

"Are you going to just stand there and yap or are you gonna help me?"

"Fine. Fine." Mitsuki shoves Katsuki aside and takes the bowl, "This looks like crap. You have to melt it more."

Katsuki curses under her breath and Mitsuki stuffs the bowl in the microwave.

"So, who you confessing too? Is it the redhead? Or that Todoroki boy? Oh! Or maybe you and Izuku finally got your head out of your asses, hmm?"

"I'm not telling you! So what? So you can go and gossip about it to Auntie—” Katsuki covers her mouth with her hands.

She said too much.

Goddammit.

Mitsuki stops stirring and smiles with twinkling eyes.

"So it is Izuku! I knew it! I always knew you both would end up together. Ah, how exciting! Inko and I have a wedding to plan!"

"Mom, please." Katsuki groans, she just knows her mom is going to call Auntie as soon as she leaves...

"Here, pour this on the mold. we have to make your chocolates perfect for our Izuku!"

Katsuki woke up at the crack of dawn. her stomach tied up in knots. She wasn't even sure if her chocolates were going to be accepted. Yesterday she was fueled by wanting to compete with pink cheeks out of sheer jealousy. But now…her doubts were eating her away. Did she even have a chance with deku?

She was so ready to confess yesterday, but no matter how hard she has tried to be friendly with Izuku now, it didn't change their past.

She did shut him out of her life for being quirkless. She did nothing when people bullied him for it but it was also because she didn’t know how to deal with her feelings back then either. She only came to realize pretty recently that it was the reason why she cut off contact with Izuku in the first place. She liked him. For how long, she doesn’t know. Probably since they were kids.

Now she hasn't really apologized for being a bitch to him for all those years. They just gradually started talking more and more. But Izuku deserved an apology from her. She’s so happy that they text each other now and hang out on the weekends with their classmates and they also have their weekly training sessions on Thursdays. They're friends now. Katsuki considers him a good friend and she's sure Izuku does too. Otherwise why would he make so much effort to talk to her and make plans together. That had to be the reason.

She can do this, right? She has just as much right to confess as Pink Cheeks does!

Katsuki sighs and gets out of bed, gently patting the wrapped box of chocolates on her desk.

It was wrapped in shiny black wrapping paper, tied together with an orange bow and a metal green grenade pin in the middle. It was the hag's idea to make it personalized. If anyone saw that gift in Izuku's hand. They'd know exactly where it came from.

The blonde sits down on her desk and grabs a pen and paper, and begins to write all the thoughts she's been holding in for years. She’s made up her mind and isn't going to hand it to him personally. She'll just leave it at his desk. It's the only way she feels like she deserves to, at least to sate her worried heart.

...

Just like Katsuki planned, she was the first one in class. Her uniform is ironed and her hair is tied up in a low ponytail with a green scrunchie. This was as girly as she'll ever get.

She looks around for nosy onlookers before digging into her bag and taking out her box of chocolates, the note neatly folded in a black envelope stuck underneath with tape.

Katsuki takes a deep breath and places it on Izuku's desk quickly before giving herself time to regret it. Her heart is beating like a drum and she's so nervous she wants to throw up. So she crosses her arms on her desk and lays her head down. She'll pretend to sleep. That way she could avoid seeing Izuku's face when he sees her gift. She hears the squeaking of shoes as people walk in and the whispers of their classmates.

"Is that Katsuki's gift?"

"Wow, look at that. who knew Katsuki was romantic."

"I knew she liked him."

And then Katsuki hears Ochako walk in, talking with Tsuyu.

"...that's really interesting, ribbit."

"Right?! I stayed up late watch—"

Katsuki couldn't help but peek out from under her lashes to see Ochako stop dead in her tracks, a gift in her hands. She walks forward and takes her seat.

Katsuki feels triumphant and it quickly dissipates when she sees Deku walking inside and Katsuki's heart starts acting up again. She shuts her eyes and curls into herself. Why did she ever make herself do this in the first place?! Maybe she has time to take it back and—. Katsuki hears Izuku sit down behind her. She hears him tear off the tape from her envelope and the rustling of the paper as he unfolds it. Everything he does is so loud and Katsuki has tuned out everyone else around them. She hears him open up her gift and then a few gasps from their classmates.

Wait. Why are they gasping?

Should she get up?

Then she feels a tap on her shoulder and Katsuki wants to disappear.

"Kacchan?" Izuku whispers with a mouth full.

Katsuki slowly raises her head and turns around stone-faced but in reality she was screaming on the inside.

Izuku is smiling, blushing with chocolate smeared on the corner of his lip and Katsuki has the urge to scold him about it.

"Thanks for the chocolate." He says shyly, thumbing the grenade pin on his lapel.

And Katsuki nearly combusts in her chair. Her cheeks feel hot and her stupid heart needs to calm the fuck down.

"Whatever." She blurts out and reaches over and wipes his lip with her thumb. "Dumb, dirty Deku."

Katsuki licks it off her finger with a feral grin and Izuku looks at her completely stunned.

"Hey, these are pretty good." She says.

"Yeah, you are—I mean, they are!" Izuku blushes and looks away.

She ignores the chatter of their classmates at their exchange and turns back around with a smirk. Deku accepted her chocolates after all!

Before lunch, Katsuki is on her way to the cafeteria when she notices Ochako in the hallway with Mina. She's talking to Raccoon Eyes, her gift held behind her back.

She can't hear so well but she sees Pink Cheeks hand Mina the gift who takes it and takes her in a hug.

Who knew!

She walks away and heads toward Izuku, who was on his way to the cafeteria too.

He smiles at her before taking her hand in his. Her new boyfriend looks into her eyes before leaning over and placing a soft kiss on her lips.
