Hope you enjoy this little one shot :)

Work Text:

“Come on Maya! Please! I always used to go with Andrea when I would visit for Christmas” Carina tried to convince Maya but there seemed to be no budging. Maya did not want to go ice skating, she claimed that it hurt her bad ankle too much.
“You can go and I’ll watch you but I’m not going!” Maya snapped. They had been going at this for at least twenty minutes and Maya didn’t like arguing with Carina, especially over something that seemed so silly like ice skating.
At Maya’s statement Carina retreated into herself. “Okay, okay… we won’t go ice skating. Sorry I was so pushy about it” Carina almost whispered, she was hurt that Maya would snap at her over this when she had explained just how important this was to her. This year had been hard for Carina, she was feeling the loss of her mother and brother so much harder this year for whatever reason and ice skating was something she and Andrea did every year when she came to visit and she thought she would feel closer to him this way.
Seeing the effect of her tone on her wife Maya took a deep breath to call her self down before she spoke. “I’m sorry I snapped at you” she started reaching for Carina’s hands. “I’ve never been ice skating before…” she paused and looked down, letting go of Carina’s hands suddenly finding her own fingers very interesting. “Lane wouldn’t let me, he was afraid that I’d hurt myself and not be able to run. Then after the Olympics every time it came up I’d get out of it with my ankle. I guess it’s just embarrassing to be an adult who’s never ice skated.” Maya admitted only looking up at the end to meet Carina’s eyes.
“Bambina, I don’t want to force you to do anything but, I think this could be fun for us and it would again help you break away from some of the things that Lane told you that were hurtful” Carina stated softly trying to convince Maya again to try ice skating with her. Carina tried wrapping Maya into a hug but Maya sat frozen for a second just thinking.
“Okay, I’ll go. But you are not allowed to let go of my hand!” Maya chuckled even though she was completely serious.
A few days later Carina arranged for the two to go skating at the outdoor rink. They rented their skates and were soon on the ice. Maya held tight to Carina for most of the time and Carina had kept her promise to not let her fall. The two enjoyed their time and Maya promised to make time every year for the two to ice skate.
