Obsequious

Summary:

Danny is not jealous. He's not!

Notes:

Obsequious means "marked by or showing a fawning attentiveness" – in other words, "too eager to help or obey someone important."

Work Text:

Danny was used to annoying obsequious people. Commander Steve McGarrett was an impressive figure after all. It still bugged him when pretty brunettes fluttered their eyelashes and leaned close, making sure he got an eyeful of their cleavage. Not to mention the way too flirty blondes who leaned close to him to whisper into his ear. Steve didn't really have a type when it came to females. After all, he had dated both Catherine and Lynn, polar opposites.

So Danny crossed his arms and scowled at the whole situation.

And when Steve happened to glance up from whatever titillating conversation he was having with Ms. Chest and Ms. Flirt, and their eyes locked across the room, Steve's grin softened into a genuine smile. And he left the two women, who were clamoring for his attention, and found his way to Danny.

"What are you doing standing here by yourself?"

"Nothing," he muttered darkly, now glaring at the very interesting floor.

Steve didn't answer, and Danny, like always, couldn't take the silence. "What are you doing here? Go back to your fawning fan club before they get lonely without your godly presence."

"Don't be jealous, Danno."

"I'm not jealous. I have nothing to be jealous of," Danny continued to mutter darkly. Good thing he didn't have heat vision. Otherwise, the ground would be on fire.

"Exactly, you have nothing to be jealous of," Steve agreed.

Danny looked up at that, finally meeting his partner's eyes. "I don't? You always loved petite blondes and curvy brunettes."

Steve shrugged. "Maybe I did once upon a time, but now my type is more selective. I like blonds that are mouthy but also brilliant detectives. And if they have a beautiful daughter named Grace and an awesome son named Charlie, that's even better."

"You're using me for my children, aren't you?" Danny demanded.

"They are my favorite Williams."

"I guess I can understand that. They're both pretty great."

Steve cupped Danny's face. "You really have no reason to be jealous. Once upon time, they might have turned my head. But all I see now is you. You're all I've seen for a long time."

Danny finally allowed a smile to take over his face. "You're getting kind of corny in your old age."

"Shut up and kiss me."

And for once, Danny did what he was told without any argument.
