Work Text:

“Morgana please.” Arthur begged, staring at her holding a sword at Agravaine’s throat. “He’s my uncle.” Morgana’s lips curled into a smile.

“Would you offer your life in return, oh mighty King of Camelot?” Morgana crooned.

“STOP!” Merlin shouted, bursting through the doors of the throne room. “Can’t you see Arthur? She’s playing you, Agravaines on her side.”

“Arthur, he's lying.” Agravaine said, pretending to cower.

“Pathetic.” Morgana said, lowering her sword. “Can’t you do anything right? I feed you line after line, on what to say, what to do, and you can’t even pretend to be scared?”

“Uncle I don’t understand.” Arthur stuttered, looking back and forth between Agravaine and Morgana.

“Bye bye dear Uncle.” Morgana said, before stabbing Agravaine through the chest. Arthur gasped. Morgana started walking towards Arthur, and Merlin.

“Well well, the mighty King, and his faithful dog trailing behind him.” Morgana smiled, “I will greatly enjoy wiping out the disease you bring to this land.”

“Please Morgana.” Arthur said softly, “There must be another way.”

“I gave you a chance didn’t I Emrys?” Morgana sneered at Merlin, “Why don’t you tell him Merlin? Show him who you really are? See if he’ll still give you treats at the end of the day.”

“Merlin, what’s she talking about?” Arthur asked, “Who’s Emrys?”

Merlin took a deep breath, and shook out his hands for a second. “I-...” He gulped, “Emrys is...he’s the name the druids gave me.”

“Why did the druids give you a name?” Arthur asked, fear filling his eyes. “What’s happening Merlin? I don’t understand.”

“I have magic Arthur.” Merlin said, starting to shake. “I was born with it, to fulfill my destiny as Emrys to help you build Albion. A prosperous land full of strength, and magic. Something that only you could bring to Camelot, it’s my destiny to protect you.”

“So you mean to tell me, all this time you’ve been saving me?” Arthur asked, Merlin nodded. “You mean to tell me, for years you’ve been using magic to rescue me without me knowing? You never told me….I always thought you were bad at keeping secrets….that although you couldn’t fight, your courage and loyalty pushed you….but it was all magic...even under Uther’s nose.” Arthur slumped down in defeat, head in his hands.

“Are you happy now Morgana?” Merlin said, choking back tears.

“Not even close.” She responded, flipping her hair back. “As much as I love to watch you realize that even your own beloved servant lied to you, I would much prefer it if you were dead.”

“Magic isn’t evil.” Merlin said, “Neither are you Morgana, deep down you’re still that kind, compassionate person I met all those years ago.”

“Having your friends try to poison you will do that to you.” Morgana spat, “Don’t speak to me of change, you’ve done your fair share of damage.”

“I still think it can work.” Melin pushed.

“And I once thought pigs could fly.” Morgana said.

“Maybe they can.” Merlin smiled, Morgana rolled her eyes in response.“What if you and Arthur were to work together? Co-rule? You could both have what you wanted. Arthur could handle the military aspect, you could handle magic users, and you could work together to help Camelot. Albion can be built by both of you.” Morgana narrowed her eyes, and tilted her head thoughtfully.

“I’d consider it.” Morgana said, after a moment.

“You’d have to swear not to try to kill Arthur every time he turns his back.” Merlin said.

“Me? Try to kill my dearest brother?” Morgana said, “Never.”

“I feel like this is not your decision to make Merlin.” Arthur said, getting up. “I’m still trying to process the whole magic thing.”

“I just want to go one day without worrying Morgana's gonna show up, and turn us all into toads.” Merlin grumbled.

“If Morgana turned you into a toad, I’d sign the papers for us to co-rule without hesitation.” Arthur said.

“Just say the word.” Morgana answered, “I can even turn him into a frog.”

“I’d appreciate it if no one turned me into anything.” Merlin said.

“Good thing no one was asking you.” Arthur replied, patting Merlin on the head.

“I’m tempted to turn you into a frog.” Merlin muttered.

“Heard that.” Arthur said.

“So what will it be, brother dearest?” Morgana said, face turning serious. “Decide quick before I change my mind.”

“You know what Morgana.” Arthur started, “If you swear to me you’ll stop trying to take over, kill me, Gwen, or any of my loyal subjects we can try it out. If Merlin really has been trying to help me all these years, and he’s a sorcerer then I suppose I should give you, and the rest of your kind a chance too.

“Then it is agreed.” Morgana said, extending her hand out to Arthur.

“ARTHUR DUCK!” Merlin shouted, as a flash of metal spun out of her hand, towards him. Arthur rolled out of the way.

“What the hell was that!” Arthur exclaimed, ruffling his hair as he got back up.

“Testing, testing.” Morgana said innocently. “Last time I swear.”

“Right.” Arthur said warily.

Several days passed, and Arthur and Morgana signed an official document allowing them to co-rule.

“I suppose you’ll have to step down now.” Morgana smirked, fiddling with the crown on Gwen’s nightstand. Gwen glared at her.

“I still don’t trust you.” Gwen said, “You’re only here to hurt Arthur.”

“Lucky for you I don’t care what you think.” Morgana replied, “You’re just a servant girl, what do you know about ruling? Camelot will be much better off without you.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” Gwen said, “I’m still Arthur’s wife, or have you forgotten?”

“Congrats.” Morgana said drily, “Arthur’s wife you may be, but you’ll no longer have any sort of power.”

“Get out.” Gwen said shortly.

“Of course my lady.” Morgana replied, with a mock bow. “I’ll be taking this with me.” She took the crown, and walked away.

Then they lived happily ever after, and became the greatest co rulers ever.
