Work Text:
It was morning. The sun was shyly entering the room through the half-open curtains, bringing clarity to the room.
The blonde wriggles between the covers and stretches, refusing to open her eyes because of the light. She opens them, albeit reluctantly, and after getting used to, gropes the mattress in search of her beloved.
Her current situation was still surreal to Adora. She never imagined that her relationship with Catra would reach this point. Please, they had been living together for more than six months and had adopted a cat! By the way, the feline’s name, black as night, was Melog.
She admires the crumpled face on the pillow beside her, brushing a few strands of hair from her forehead and cheek. Lovely, is how she would describe this scene. She thought about getting up, grabbing her notebook and drawing her, but she would surely wake her up – she didn’t know how to be quiet and sneaky enough. So preferred to just enjoy the moment and try to keep as much detail as possible of the face she loved the most.
“I can feel you staring at me, you know?” she says sleepily, taking the girl by surprise.
“I'm sorry. I couldn’t resist the view”.
The brunette slowly opens her heterochromatic eyes and Adora is shocked at how much more beautiful the scene could get. And to top it all off, the smaller one smiles slightly; that stupid smile. A passionate one.
These were great words to describe these two. Cheesy is also a good choice. But they liked it that way, and it was beautiful to see.
They met each other in college and became friends almost instantly, even with the reluctance of Catra, who was always very cold and closed. The friendship only grew and when they saw it, they were in love. Adora simply opened her heart and confessed her feelings for her friend, and, well, the reciprocal was true. At the end of October is their three-year anniversary.
“What goes through your lovey-dovey head? I can almost see little hearts floating around it.” It was the sweet but debauched comment from the short brown haired woman.
“Well, you...”
“Ugh, you just make everything cheesy”.
“If you don’t like it, why do you have a smile on your face?” She arched her eyebrow.
“Because I love this stupid cheesy girl”.
She came closer, hugging her neck and placing a chaste kiss on her girlfriend's pink lips. She was about to get up when she was stopped.
“Hey, is that all? What a lousy kiss”.
“I’m not going to kiss you until you and I have our teeth brushed”.
“Catra...” grumbles. "We’ve been dating for so long, we don’t need this anymore, don’t you think?”
“Not really.” she says, standing up. “But you do”.
“Are you saying to my face that I have breath?” she sits up in bed.
“We all have it when we wake up, silly. But...”
She throw a pillow but the smaller one deflects it and goes into the bathroom, laughing.
“Shh.” Sticks her head out and faces her pouty, cross-armed girlfriend. “I love you”.
It was impossible for Adora to stay angry with this human being. Just... impossible.
After their morning hygiene is done, they head to the kitchen for coffee.
“We could go to the park today, hm? Have a picnic or just a walk”.
“I don’t think so...” Opens the curtain of the small kitchen window revealing gray clouds beginning to cover the entire sky.
“Aww, it’s going to rain.” pouts.
“Yep. Aw, don’t be sad. We can stay home under the warm comforter and eat crap and watch movies”.
“I have a better idea for us to stay warm.” she said maliciously.
“Adora! We haven’t even had breakfast yet and you’re already being so naughty? When I met you you weren’t like this”.
She gets up from the stool she was sitting on and grabs the brunette’s thin waist from behind.
“You aweken these things in me.” she says as sensual as possible, also placing a light hickey on her neck.
“Adora... let’s just have breakfast before I turn your meal”.
She chuckles and helps her prepare everything. They eat amid routine conversations and flirtations coming from you-know-who.
“I’ll take the dishes.” Adora says, clearing the table.
“Okay, I’m going to take a shower. If you’re quick enough you can come in too...”
She gives a naughty smile and leaves the kitchen, leaving Adora slightly stunned. She washes the dishes in an enviable speed and accompanies her girlfriend in the shower, where they only had a few kisses and caresses, nothing too serious.
When they leave, they realize that the rain is finally falling, and feel that the weather is already cooling down. They wrap themselves in comfortable pajamas and slip under the warm covers. Catra grabs her cell phone to answer e-mails and the blonde grabs her notebook, finishing a final college assignment. Even while they are focused on their tasks, they exchange sweet words and affection.
“Babe, how do we spell hebdomadary? When I say something is weekly”.
“Um... ‘h’ and a silent ‘b’”.
“Thank you”.
“Why do you need such a refined essay? Your course is in art”.
“I wanna know too, but since I have an expert in words as a girlfriend, there’s nothing like using that to my advantage, right?” she said smugly.
“Lucky for you I'm a literature major”.
“The artist and the writer, how could it get more cliché than that?”
“I have to get my novels out of your reach, you’re getting impossible.” She puts down her smartphone and hugs the bigger one, leaning her head on her shoulder. “If you want, I’ll review it for you later”.
“I’d love to. But now” she takes the device from her lap and exchanges it with the girl next to her “it’s time to pay attention to my girlfriend”.
Catra smiles, hugging the pale neck and coming closer for a kiss. Adora’s hands move down to her back covered by the sweatshirt she loved so much, scratching it lightly.
“What do you say we have lunch later and stuff our faces with candy and watch TV?”
“I’d love to.” And she kisses her on the tip of her nose.
Laughs. “Of course you do, it’s food we’re talking about”.
“Hey, when are you gonna stop making fun out of this?”
“Mmm, never. You’re adorable when angry”.
“Catra, no! Stop it. Not the adorable joke.” she says, even if so laughing.
“Why? You like it”.
“It’s because it comes out of your mouth. From those hot lips and that soft tongue of yours.” says, leaving the smaller girl embarrassed and flushed.
But even so she pulls her in for another kiss, more intense and faster, almost desperate. They pull away breathlessly, their foreheads touching.
“You activate a very libidinous and uncontrolled way in me, Adora! It’s almost like magic. Are you by any chance a witch and didn’t tell me?”
“This is no longer the time of the inquisition. I guess being a witch and a lesbian is safe.” says, laughing and hugging her girl.
Said and done. All sorts of goodies were spread out on the couch, covered with pillows and warm blankets. Their childish spirit was in full bloom, so they decided to watch some cartoons.
Melog on Catra’s lap, who was on Adora’s lap, all covered by the fluffy blanket like the cat. The rain had increased and so had the cold. The colorful cartoon lit up the dark room. It didn’t even seem like it was almost two in the afternoon.
A thunderous bolt of lightning strikes somewhere very close by judging by the noise, startling the little ‘cat’.
“It’s okay, baby. I’m right here.” Hugs her girlfriend more tightly on her lap.
She hears the brunette giggle and lean her torso against his chest.
“I love it when you’re that careful with me. I feel special”.
“But that’s because you are, at least to me. Very”. Kisses the scented hair in front of her. “I love you, Catra”.
She puts the furry feline on the couch and turns around, sitting facing her girlfriend’s thick thighs.
“And I love you. More than I have ever loved anyone, if ever so. You may not have been my first, but I definitely want you to be my last”.
The blonde with her already watery eyes and heart warmed, pulls her into a tight embrace.
“It’s not fair. You use your skill with words to destabilize me.” she says in a tearful voice.
“Awww, that’s not my goal. I just like to express my love for you. Don’t be sad. I don’t like to see you sad”.
“I’m not sad, just touched”.
She wipes away a few stray tears and gently kissesher eyelids.
“Um, did we stop there?” Adora asks, referring to the cartoon that had already advanced one episode.
“Definitely not. We stopped when Blondie and Catrina were walking towards Airehte’s Brain”.
She grabs the remote to go back when she hears a phone ring. Catra gets up and takes his girlfriend's cell phone and hands it over.
“It’s a video call with Glimmer and Bow. Come here!”
She returns to the couch, now sitting next to Adora.
“Hi, girls! It’s been a long time!” says the pink-haired one cheerfully.
“So, how are things going? College, the apartment?”
“We’re fine. Finally the last semester. In a few weeks we will graduate. We are super excited”.
“It’s true, we can’t wait”.
“That’s great! And how is Melog doing. You both never posted another picture of him on Instagram”.
“Oh, he’s right here.” she says, handing the phone to her partner while picking up the fat cat on her lap.
“Hey, Melog! How are you, big guy?”
They talked for a few more minutes but had to hang up.
“Babe... I’m hungry.” says Catra shyly.
“What does my baby want for lunch?” asks jokingly.
“Can you make your carbonara pasta today?”
“Anything for you, my love. And you can stay there. I’ll make it myself”.
“Are you sure you don’t want any help?”
“Yes, I’m sure.” Gives her a kiss on the forehead and go to the kitchen.
Take advantage and get her notebook. Open her work. Her book. She had been working on it for two years. Would use it as a final project for her college course, but also as a gift. You can probably guess who the book is about.
She wrote about Adora. About herself. About her and Adora. Their friendship, relationship, love. She had to write about this because it was the most precious, magical, and special thing she had. She had never in her whole life gone through an experience like this, and she was not going to miss the opportunity to express all her gratitude in a beautiful romance book.
Although she always seemed serious and heartless, her favorite books were those that talked about strong and true feelings. She loved her novels. And Adora was insistent. She always knew that inside that armor she had the most beautiful and pure soul. And she had no regrets. All the advances, all the outbursts, the conversations, the laughter, it was all worth it. Because it all brought them to this moment, as simple as it is.
Catra was excited because she was just in the revision phase and could even give her book as a birthday present. That was what she wanted the most. After all, nothing could be more fair than giving the book as a present on their day, right? I would have it printed and covered as soon as possible. Ah, the cover. It was one of her favorite parts, because it was them. An old drawing Adora had made of the two of them. One on the other’s lap, on a balcony admiring the moon and the stars. The line was simple, as was the watercolor painting, but it was one of their favorites.
She sighs heavily. Wondered if the bigger one would like the gift. She knew she would. But it still made her nervous. She pushes these thoughts away when the delicious smell of pasta fills the room. She looks to the side and sees her girl carefully and whimsically setting the table.
“Can I help you at least set the table, miss?” she says as she takes her arms around her body and puts them on her belly.
“You may”.
They set everything up together and also get a bottle of wine and glasses. They sit down to eat. Adora anxiously awaits the approval of her food and Catra says nothing, just gives a loud moan of pleasure with the wonderful flavors in her mouth. The blonde smiles proudly and starts to eat as well. They eat and drink, always maintaining an amusing dialog.
After they finish, they wash the dishes together and decide to go to bed for a nap. It is still about four in the afternoon, but the post-lunch marisia has softened them up. They cuddle together and enjoy each other’s company until sleep overcomes them.
She looked beautiful. Wearing a burgundy red dress with a breathtaking side slit. Her loose shoulder-length hair gave her a fresh, juvial look and added to her light make-up. God, she looked beautiful.
I was glad she had chosen a suit instead of a dress. I wouldn’t dare to overshadow her beauty, even if I could.
“Shall we go?” Her calm and sweet voice gives me goose bumps.
“Yes, miss.” I offer my arm for her to hold, which she accepts with pleasure.
We were matching. Her red with the wine of my suit. Wow. We looked like those magazine models.
The evening was perfect. All our friends were there. Glimmer, Bow, Scorpia, Mermista, Netossa, Spinderella, Sea Halk, Perfuma, Entrapta, little Frosta, even my school friends Lonnie, Kyle, Rogelio and Double Trouble. They were all there for us. Celebrating our graduation. I thought everything was perfect, but it just got better.
“Attention, y’all. Everyone look at me.” Adora said into the microphone. “Thank you. Well, they chose me to be the spokesperson for my class, which I think was a bad choice, but okay.” Laughter is heard. “But what I can say is thank you. Thank you to our professors for putting up with us for four long years, thank you for the knowledge, learning, experiences and memories. We will always be grateful to you. Thank you also to our colleagues. Guys, you are fucking awesome!” I laugh at her excitement, hearing some screams, she was already slightly drunk. “Our jobs, projects, embarrassments, the parties. Ah, the parties! This part we will surely never forget. What I want to say is that even with all the lows, sleepless nights, meals that we skipped to fulfill schedules and tasks, it was all worth it because we are here today, graduating with great honors!” She shouts and is followed. She scratches her throat and continues. “Now, I know that this is meant to be something for everyone, not just for me, but if I may, I would like to thank someone else. Someone to whom I am very grateful, and love, but love so much that it hurts. You probably already know who it is, but Catra- baby, thank you so much for everything. For your friendship, your love, your companionship. I have only good things to say about you. We are doing great. We have our apartment, our cat, we have been dating for more than three years and, damn, this is amazing. It’s just... even though I think this is all great, I still want more”.
She lets go of the microphone and steps off the small stage where she was, coming towards me. I was nervous. Trembling, heart racing, hands soaked. What are you doing, Adora?
“Catra...”
“Hey, Adora.” I say in a whisper.
“I love you so much, and I know you love me too. But it’s because I love you this much that I need to do this. Catra, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, by your side. I want to grow old with you, I want to have children, a house, a family, something bigger and more elaborate than what we already have”.
At that moment I was already crying uncontrollably. She was really doing this. Oh, God.
“Catherine Apple Sauce Meow Meow...” She kneels down, opening a velvet box displaying a beautiful engagement ring. “Catra... Will you marry me?”
The tears and sobs were so many that it was hard to answer.
“Yes! Yes, yes, I do!” And I jumped on her, hugging her tightly, our cries coming together as everyone around us screamed and celebrated.
It was magical when we stood up and she placed the ring with a delicate stone on my finger. She wipes away my tears and kisses me passionately. I reciprocate in kind. She asked me to marry her! We are engaged! We’re getting married!
This was without a doubt the best day of my entire life.
Catra wakes up dazed and with tears in her eyes. Her heart was beating in a rush. She turns to the side and sees the love of her whole life. She smiles at her.
With no doubt, her dream was a beautiful reality, and a wish. But if it was to happen, it would happen. In due time. There was no need to rush things. She was where, how and with whom she wanted to be right there and now. Next to her girlfriend. Her friend. Her beloved. And well... nothing else mattered.
