Serpent Identification

Summary:

Just what kind of snake is Aspik?

Work Text:

“He’s got that little yellow diamond on his forehead, maybe he’s a diamond back?”

“Yeah but those are brown and there’s way too many diamonds on one of those.”

“I thought we weren’t trying to identify what kind he was by color?”

“I know, but still, it’s not like he rattles or anything.”

“Okay that’s fair… Oh! What about this one?” She leaned over and turned her phone to show the other girl the picture she’d brought up on the screen. It showed a cobra of some variety, its hood splayed out threateningly.

“Oh? Because Sass is or because his mask hides his hair like a hood?”

“I mean there’s that too but it’s also got a bit of a pattern going on and that certainly fits for mister model boy.”

Multimouse giggled, “don’t tease him for that.”

“For what? For being a pretty snake?” Ryuuko asked, striking a faux pose as if she were a runway model.

“No, he’s definitely a pretty boy, I meant for his job. That’s not really his fault.”

“Oh! What if he’s like a king snake?” Multimouse turned her phone screen to show a picture of two different snakes being compared.

Ryuuko took a second to examine the picture and it’s accompanying labels before she responded, “These look more like me than him,” she said as she gestured vaguely at her own costume before continuing, “And why not a coral snake then?”

“Look at him. He’s harmless.” She took her phone back for a second before continuing, “and by the way he’s got a counterpoint who’s a bad boy.” She turned her phone back towards Ryuuko with the screen now on a Ladyblog article comparing Aspik and Viperion.

Ryuuko chuckled and rolled her eyes, “Oh? And I’m not allowed to make fun of him?”

“You know what I meant!” The little mouse growled back.

“And I wouldn’t say his bite is completely ‘harmless’, after all, you didn’t spend those weeks making new scarves just to have a matching set.” The dragon teased.

The little mouse blushed as she instinctively rubbed her neck, “Quiet you lindwyrm, my parents like you guys but I’d still like to avoid getting in trouble. Besides, you're about as clingy as Nidhogg!”

“Ooh! Feisty,” Ryuuko smiled a sharp toothed grin, “Not like we don’t also have to put up with a gnawing rodent and her love bites… and besides, I didn’t hear you complaining then.” She quipped.

Multimouse huffed a big breath as she recentered herself from the obvious attempt to fluster her into submission, “Back to my point!” She gritted out, “Maybe we should take into account the other holders of that miraculous and since there’s just the one we know about-“

“Understood.” The dragon interrupted, “Doesn’t make you any less fun to mess with, but I know what you meant.”

“I mean at least Viperion is obvious, he has “viper” in the name. What even is an ‘Aspik’?”

“Well I don’t know all the same languages he does but I thought he took it from asps? They’re Egyptian or something? Maybe also a kind of viper though I’m really not too familiar.”

“Well the random trivia suits him at least.” She got a knowing smirk out of Ryuuko, “a super dangerous snake just doesn’t seem like him you kno-ah!?”

The pondering pair were interrupted as Aspik snuck up and scooped them up in a hug, “And why’s that? Do I not strike fear into the Akuma? Do I not strike with speed and fury?”

“Put us down!” Ryuuko pleaded amidst a giggling fit and a haphazard slap or two at his arms.

“Too tight” squeaked out the tiniest of the trio.

Setting down the squirming souris and rambunctious ryū, “so what’s this I’m hearing about me not being dangerous?” He asked as he made a show of flaunting his fine features as if to punctuate the disbelief.

“It’s not like that. We were just trying to figure out what kind of snake best suits you?”

“And your consensus was ‘harmless’?” He bridged the gap as he feigned defeat clinging at her side, “You wound me, Princess.”

“It’s not even like that, you drama queen,” Ryuuko as she lifted him to his feet, “not poisonous was all we’d whittled down.”

“Then tell me,” Aspik began as he turned to face her and leaned in close to her face, holding her by her horns to peer deep into her eyes, “What kind of snake do my princesses think I am?”

Ryuuko the ever confident and stern did her best to lock eyes with her sultry serpentine significant other, though her head cradled in his arms and him forcing her to look up at him close enough to feel his breath on her lips was certainly not helping her come up with a witty remark.

Nearly on the back step when a short snort from behind him and a ding from Ryuuko’s phone led the two interwoven reptiles to pause and check what their cheeky little mouse had thrown into the ring to disrupt their little show.

The three word message led to a burst of laughter from their more stoic soulmate and a defeated eye roll from a suddenly less superior snake before another round of crushing hugs and giggles.

And on the rooftop beside the happy trio Ryuuko’s phone sat illuminated on one text: Emerald tree boa

Because the snake Adrien best represented, at least when side by side with his two favorite girls, was obviously… a constrictor. The masters of tight hugs.
