Work Text:

“Hey, girls! Check this out,” Ashido excitedly said as she turned her laptop around to show her friends the screen. The other girls in Class 3A turned their attention to their pink-haired friend as she pointed at the social media post that read Food Festival Tonight!

“A food festival? Is that some kind of event?” Uraraka wondered as she squinted her eyes trying to read the promotional post from across Ashido.

“That’s what it sounds like, kerro ,” Asui confirmed with a pondering pointer finger at her chin.

“Ooo! It says there will be many kinds of food throughout the night–and it looks like it’ll be from different regions. How delicious!” The light blue pajama set to the right of Ashido started to wave her arms around, no doubt belonging to a very excited Hagakure.

“Right? I was thinking since we are all nearly finished with this week’s exams and assignments, we should totally go!” Ashido suggested, she turned to Kyouka and Yaoyorozu. “What do you girls say? Don’t you like festivals, Yaomomo? You and Todoroki-kun ?” She implied with a teasing tone.

Yaoyorozu who sat on a single cushion stool blushed deeply but brushed it off quickly. “Everyone–not just myself–enjoys festivals!” She playfully huffed despite the giggles from her friends. “I think it’s a wonderful idea, Ashido. Jirou, what do you think?”

The purple-haired girl smiled, propping her leg onto the cushioned stool she sat on then rested her cheek on the top of her knee. She smiled and nodded. “Hell yeah! I think we all need a break. This week has been insane with the amount of work we had to do. Is there anything else at the festival? Like games?”

Uraraka and Asui had abandoned their spot on the couch across from Ashido and Hagakure and scurried across the floor. With the laptop placed on the low coffee table between the group of friends, the girls were anxiously reading up more information the promotional post had. With a nod, the brunette grinned, “It says there will be games, food– of course –and even little vendors selling all kinds of stuff!”

“It’s for tomorrow night! It starts around five o’clock,” Hagakure informed them. “This is perfect! We have to figure out what we’re going to wear, girls!”

Kyouka giggled at her friends’ excitement as she continued to listen to their brainstorm of the perfect outfit for tomorrow’s festivities. Beside her, Yaoyorozu would chip in here and there with suggestions and reminders of keeping the weather in mind when choosing an outfit. “It might be getting chilly, I suggest we all wear something warm.”

“Yes, mom ,” Kyouka drawled earning a playful shove from her best friend. Kyouka laughed, leaning back to avoid another jab from Yaoyorozu when she suddenly felt a sneeze come on. She held her hand and earphone jack for a moment of reprise as she sneezed into her elbow. “Ugh…” Kyouka grimaced as she wiped at her nose.

“Oh, are you feeling alright, Jirou?” Yaoyorozu asked with a frown. “Allergies?”

“Prob–” Kyouka started but was interrupted by another powerful sneeze, this time it came with some unwanted snot. Her grimace deepened as she kept her nose tucked in her elbow, embarrassed to pull back until she felt a small tap on her shoulder. As always, Yaoyorozu was prepared with a small packet of tissues for her. “Thanks, Yaomomo.”

“Are you alright, Kyouka?” Asui asked with a tilt of her head. “You’re starting to get red.”

Kyouka nodded as she turned away and quickly blew her nose. “I’m okay! Damn allergies acting up at a time like this…” She gulped, feeling her throat start to itch, and felt a subtle throb in her head. She rubbed her temples. “I-I think I’m going to bed early, girls.”

“Okay, Kyoka. Make sure you drink something warm before bed. That should help with the sneezing!” Uraraka recommended with a warm smile.

“Will do. What time are we heading out tomorrow?” Kyouka sniffled as she used another tissue to wipe her dripping nose.

“We’re thinking around four-thirty, just to be safe. I think we’re going to have to take the subway there,” Ashido concluded with a determined nod as she typed in–what Kyoka assumed–was the fastest route to the festival. “Rest up, girl! You have a lot of time to recover.”

“Jirou, if you wanted something warm to drink before bed, I think I left some peppermint tea packets on the kitchen counter!” Yaoyorozu called after her as she was already halfway through the little dining area that lead to the kitchen.

“Thanks, I’ll help myself to a cup!” Kyouka nodded, giving the girls a goodbye wave as she continued her way. The closer she got to the kitchen area she noticed a tall head of dark blonde hair. She immediately knew who it was, judging from the little black streak that resembled an electric bolt on his bangs paired with a small, yet adorable, a ponytail piled on top of his head.

Denki sensed her before she could give him a proper hello. The blonde’s honey eyes snapped up to meet hers, instantly making her feel warm. He grinned and waved, “Hey, Jirou-Jack.”

“Hey, Jamming Yay,” Kyouka teased. “What are you making?”

“Some peppermint tea! I heard the girls raving about this, and I think it's perfect for the cozy weather right now,” Denki grinned as he placed the teabag into his mug. The yellow mug was decorated with cute Pikachu motifs. Fitting, Kyouka thought to herself.

“Really? Then you don’t mind making me one too?” Kyouka asked as she walked up to the cabinet.

“Yeah, no problem! I think I have enough water for the both of us,” Denki glanced at the kettle. He glanced at her. “Oh, Jirou. You’re a bit red…” His voice was full of concern as he reached out and touched her forehead with the back of his hand. Kyouka jumped at the sudden contact but didn’t immediately pull away. “You’re kinda warm, too.”

“I’m fine,” Kyouka insisted as she stepped back. “It’s just the weather. I think after a nice cup of Yaomomo’s peppermint tea will suffice.”

Denki seemed unconvinced but didn’t push the issue further. He turned his attention back to the kettle to turn down the stove’s heat. “Where’s your mug?”

“Hold on, going to get it–” She searched for her usual musical note mug. She ended up spotting it on the very top shelf. Kyouka huffed in annoyance. “If only I had a growing quirk…”

“Growing quirk? Imagine that,” He chuckled. “Though I’d say your quirk is the best,”  Denki said from behind her. The little comment probably seemed friendly, but to Kyouka it made her heart skip a beat just a bit.

Ignoring the little flush on her cheeks, Kyouka cleared her throat. “Hey, Pikachu. Mind helping me? Someone put my mug all the way at the top again.”

Denki swirled around, hands on his hips, and looked for the mug from where he was standing. He knew her mug by heart. “Oh, man. How inconsiderate of them!” He mockingly gasped making Kyouka laugh. “What kind of cruel, heartless people would do such a thing?”

Kyouka laughed, ignoring the slight throb in her head. But she couldn’t pass up a good laugh. “You’re so dramatic, are you auditioning for Class B’s play anytime soon?”

“Hmm, maybe I should!” Denki flashed her a goofy smile over his shoulder. “Believe it or not, Monama has gotten a kick out of their last play from our First Year. I think he’s thinking of another crazy crossover.”

“I don’t know if I’m excited about the creativity or scared of how it’ll surely bomb,” Kyouka answered. She leaned back against the counter, watching Denki reach up towards the top shelf and easily pick off her mug. “Thanks, dude. That would have saved me the trouble of busting out the ladder.”

Denki closed the cabinet doors, he turned around with a particularly handsome smile that made Kyouka’s cheeks flush harder. She suddenly froze when Denki closed the distance between them. His face was a few inches away from hers and she could count the very pale, freckles spattered against his nose and cheeks. Did he always have them?

The warmth that rose within her combatted the cool, ceramic mug that Denki pressed into her hand. She gulped, coming back to earth when Denki started to speak. “Of course, Jirou-Jack! How about we make a dumb deal?”

Kyouka gulped and arched an eyebrow. “A dumb deal? I don’t know if I want to hear it.”

“You’ll want to, I promise. It’ll especially come in handy in situations like this,” Denki said. He was still close to her. It was then she realized how little space they had in between them. Her dark purple eyes traveled from his chest to his eyes.

When did he get so tall?

His tall stature didn’t bother her, however. She jut her chin out in confidence and asked with a smirk. “Well, shoot. What is it?”

“Whenever you need something from the top shelf, I will always be there to get it for you!” Denki smiled, a little blush on his cheeks matching Kyouka’s.

Kyouka’s lips turned up into a smile, she softly laughed, taking the mug from Denki, and fondly tapped her finger against his cheek. “You, sir…are so stupid.”

Denki shrugged, swatting away her hand and gently squeezing it. “But did it work?”

“Work with what, exactly?” Kyouka continued making her and Denki’s mugs. She placed a teabag in her own mug and grabbed the kettle then began to pour the hot water.

Denki leaned a bit closer, his forearm propped against the countertop behind her as he wiggled his eyebrows. He looked so pathetic, it made Kyouka laugh and forget about how close he was to her. “With me convincing you to go with me to the festival tomorrow.”

Kyouka’s eyebrows raised to her hairline. “To the festival?” Denki nodded. “Why are you asking me? We are all going as a group.”

Denki dramatically sighed. “Well, if you must know I’m sure most of our friends are going as couples. Don’t you think so?” Kyouka pretended to be oblivious, she tapped her chin with her earphone jack and shot Denki another questioning look. “Yaomomo and Todoroki, for sure. Midoriya and Uraraka? Count on it!” He hummed in thought.

Kyouka decided to join in. “Kirishima and Ashido are totally going to try to go with matching outfits.”

“For sure! Should I even mention Hagakure and Ojirou? I could practically hear her screaming about asking him to go with her. Then…oh my god, did you hear about Tokoyami and Tsu? Talk about unexpected!”

Kyouka laughed and shook her head. She knew their friends already had found their significant others throughout their years at U.A. It was quite sweet. Denki was babbling on about some dating gossip he heard about. She could safely assume it was from Ashido. “Okay, okay! Kaminari!” Kyouka started, using her earjacks to shush him. She smiled as she stepped closer to him. She quickly looked at the girls who were too preoccupied with their own conversation.

Within a few seconds, Kyouka reached up on her tippy toes and pressed a small, shy kiss against Denki’s cheek. “Alright, I’ll go with you to the festival. Weirdo.”

“I can live with ‘weirdo’.” Denki grinned and looked as if he had used his quirk. Kyouka felt the small tingle of his electricity on her lips as she pulled back, nothing too alarming though. She giggled as she grabbed her mug and began to walk away leaving the electric user…well, shocked.

The next evening

Denki anxiously bounced his leg while he waited on the couch. Everyone gathered around the living room, ready to head out to the festival for the evening. He was dressed in his more admirable ensemble of clothes and sprayed on a cologne he knew Kyouka liked.

He fidgeted with his watch, glancing at it every so often as he’d scroll through his social media accounts, waiting for his date for the evening.

“Can you stop bouncing your leg?” Todoroki suddenly said from beside him. The red and white haired teen arched a red eyebrow at him.

“Shoot, my bad,” Denki replied. He glanced over the couch at the elevators. “Where is she?”

Todoroki followed his line of sight towards the elevators, watching the disappointed look on the blonde’s face when it revealed Tokoyami and Asui. “Who are you looking for?”

“Jirou,” Denki said. He scanned the room, realizing his friend was also missing his counterpart. “Wait, where is Yaomomo?”

Todoroki frowned, searching the room realizing his beloved wasn’t there either. “Oh, I don’t know. She should be down any minute–” He took out his phone to see if there were any missing messages from her. Todoroki stood up, “Hey, let’s go looking for them. I’m sure they’re together.”

“Right,” Denki nodded as he followed the taller boy toward the elevators.

“Oi, where are you two heading? We’re about to leave!” Bakugou barked at them.

“We’ll be right back! We’re just going to check on–” The sound of the elevator rang. “–Oh! Yaomomo!” Denki sighed in relief.

“Hi, everyone! I’m sorry for holding you up,” Yaoyorozu said as she exited the elevator. Her eyes landed on Denki. “Unfortunately, Kyouka is feeling sick today, it looks like she has a cold. I’m sorry, Kaminari.”

“Aw, what? Is she alright?” Ashido frowned from the living room, and the others listened in all feeling concerned for their friend.

“She will be, but she’s sneezing and has a fever,” Yaoyorozu frowned as she hiked the strap of her bag on her shoulder. “I think I’ll be staying back, just to make sure she eats and takes medicine.”

“Huh? You won’t be coming?” Todoroki asked, obviously disappointed even in his monotone voice.

Yaoyorozu stepped forward and took Todoroki’s hand, squeezing it. “I’m sorry, Shouto. I’ll come out with you all next time, okay?”

Denki pouted, listening to Todoroki’s disappointed sigh and Yaoyorozu’s apologetic mumblings. Around him, his friends were all wondering if they should stay back, thinking it was unfair to go to a fun festival and leave Kyouka alone. “Hey, Yaomomo?”
“Yes?”

“You go,” Denki said as he pushed her and Todoroki together and further away from the elevators. “I’ll stay behind and take care of Jirou.”

“You’re staying behind too? Kaminari?” Asui asked.

“Yeah, but just me! I know how much Todoroki was looking forward to bringing you to the festival. And a lot of you were so excited!” Denki tried to convince his friends. “Go and have fun, I’ll be fine.”

“I don’t know…” Yaoyorozu blinked, uncertainty on her face as she tilted her head to the side. “Are you sure , Kaminari? You were just as excited as we were.”

Denki gave a dismissive wave and a wink. “It’ll be okay! You guys go on ahead. I wouldn’t have much fun if Jirou isn’t there.” His sweet revelation earned a few smiles and pointed looks his way. He didn’t care for the blush on his cheeks but thought it was the best way to persuade them.

Yaoyorozu smiled, still worried but nodded in the end. “Alright, then…”

The group then started to file out of the living room, saying their goodbyes and promising to bring back snacks and other foods for Denki and Kyouka on their way back. Yaoyorozu was the last one to leave, she kept shooting instructions and reminders Denki’s way as Todoroki did his best to pull her out of the common room. “...and don’t forget to make sure she drinks plenty of water!”

“I won’t forget, Yaomomo! I got it all in here!” Denki chuckled as he tapped his temple.

“Oh my goodness, I don’t know if that makes me feel better knowing you aren’t the best at memorizing things,” Yayorozu muttered in a low voice for only Todoroki to hear.

Todoroki chuckled, “Let’s go, love.”

“Should we stop by the convenience store when we come back? I think there should be other remedies that can help…”

“Bye! Have fun, kids!” Denki waved as the door finally closed leaving the empty, common room to himself. He sighed, disappointment in the air but soon forgotten as his attention turned to taking care of the girl he loved.

“Right, I think I should make something warm for her to eat. I know Yaomomo said she hasn’t taken some medicine yet…” Denki shrugged off his jacket, draping it over the back of the couch as he placed his hands on his hips and then walked towards the elevator. “I should probably check on her, see what I’m dealing with–” Before he could finish his sentence, the elevator doors rang and pulled back revealing…“Jirou!?”

Kyouka furrowed her brow and tilted her head, completely taken back from seeing Denki out of all people. She originally thought Yaoyorozu was staying back to keep her company. Kyouka sniffled and coughed into her elbow. “Kaminari? What are you doing here? Where is Momo?” Her voice was rough and nasally.

Denki took a moment to smile at her appearance. Her purple hair was a mess, sticking up in various places and pulled together at the base of her neck into a small ponytail. Her cheeks were pink and her nose was slightly red at the tip. She wore a dark hoodie that he immediately recognized as his own paired with short lounge shorts. She was comfortably wrapped in a deep purple, fleece blanket with music note patterns throughout.

She looked absolutely adorable.

“Hello?” Kyouka said, waving her hand in front of him. “Earth to Kaminari?”

“Shit, sorry,” Denki chuckled. “I told her to go onto the festival.”

“...why aren’t you with them?”

“Simple. I’m here to take care of you, mademoiselle ,” He bowed at the waist, causing Kyouka to giggle and arch an eyebrow.

“But you can barely take care of yourself?”

“True,” Denki laughed as he took her hand and led her to the couch. The brush of their fingers caused a small spark of electricity to run through their bodies. “But for you, I will try to do better.”

Kyouka’s heart leap in her chest as he helped her settle on the couch. He gave her another charming smile and a small, affectionate pinch on her cheek. She waved him off with a chuckle and a playful glare. “Now where are you off to?”

“You need sustenance! I’m going to see what I can make for dinner. How is your throat?” Denki headed towards the kitchen, looking at the leftovers they had on the counter and in the refrigerator.

“It's kinda hard to swallow,” Kyouka replied, leaning back into the couch and sighing. She briefly closed her eyes feeling the small throb between her eyes.

“I think okayu would be perfect for you.” He nodded to himself, piecing together the ingredients he needed. He gathered the necessary pots and got to work. “Is that okay? Ya feeling for some rice porridge?”

“Yeah, that sounds good,” Kyouka said. “I haven’t eaten that since I was a child, actually. How do you know how to make it?”

Denki dropped some cooked rice onto the saucepan and added some water. “My mom used to make this for me when I got sick. And it just so happens we have enough rice for the both of us.”

It wasn’t long until the okayu was done. Denki made two bowls and brought them over to the couch Kyouka snuggled in. Kyouka’s stomach rumbled at the sight of the comforting dish and reached out to take her bowl, but Denki pulled back. “Tsk, tsk, tsk,” He said as he took a spoon and began to stir the porridge.

“What?” Kyouka frowned.

“I’m going to feed you, just sit back and relax–”

“Kaminari,” Kyouka said. “I am old enough to feed myself. Now give me–”

“Ah, ah, ah!” He tsked again making her grumble in annoyance. “Open up, let me feed you.”

“If I let you feed me, will you shut up?” Kyouka huffed as she crossed her arms. Before he could reply, Kyouka’s nose crinkled and her eyes started to water. She moved as far as she could away from Denki and sneezed into her elbow, groaning in pain and embarrassment. “I’m so sorry,” She sniffled as she quickly blew her nose. “You must think I’m disgusting.”

Denki waited for her to wipe the snot from her nose with a few tissues. He chuckled and popped the spoonful of porridge into her mouth, watching her swallow. “Kinda, but at least you’re still cute.” Kyouka blushed, ignoring the playful grin on his face as he scooped up another hearty serving of the porridge. “Open up,” he repeated. “After you eat this, you have to drink some medicine. Hopefully, that’ll help with the headache and sneezing.”

“You don’t have to stay with me, you know,” Kyouka said. “You’re going to get sick.”

Denki shrugged, “It’s good. If that means I can take the sickness away from you then so be it.”

Kyouka laughed, “I don’t think it works that way.” She chewed on the food then reached over with a clean hand and affectionately patted his cheek. Denki was surprised, his cheeks flushing but didn’t pull away as he flashed her a handsome smile. “Why are you so cheesy today?”

“You bring it out of me,” He simply said.

Kyouka eyed him as she gulped down another spoonful. She couldn’t suppress the giggle as he continued to feed her the remaining porridge. He also had her medicine ready by the time the bowl was completely clean. By the time she knew it, the medicine made her eyelids feel heavy and much-needed sleep followed soon after.

The comfortable silence was then full of soft snores, as slow as he could, Denki peered over and confirmed Kyouka was indeed asleep. Her face was shrouded by the few strands of violet hair. Denki felt his heart thudding against his chest, he stayed there for gods’ knows how long, content and completely enamored by her simple, perfect beauty.

Gently and as slowly as he could, he brushed back a lock of her hair behind her ear, carefully watching her face for any signs of consciousness. Luckily, she was completely asleep and cuddled into his side more, her arm tightening around his and the adorable wiggle of her earjack.

Chuckling softly to himself, he whispered, “Alright, Jirou-Jack, let’s get you to bed.”

With little to no effort, Denki slipped one arm under her legs while the other securely held onto her shoulders. He picked her up in a bridal-style carry and headed up the elevator and into her room.

Her door was thankfully unlocked. It saved him the awkward situation of having to wake her up. As he entered her room, he realized it was the same as he’d remembered, there were a few additions such as a new bass, guitar, and a few personal items such as photos and other memorabilia she collected throughout their three years at U.A.

Denki winced as the door swung closed behind him, he quickly crossed the room. Her bed was neatly made causing quite a predicament for him. “Shit, how am I supposed to get her under the covers?” He muttered to himself. Thinking of a quick plan, he managed to pull her comforter back with one hand while he balanced her with his arm and knee.

Exhaling, he tucked Kyouka under the covers with no hiccups from her. As he pulled the covers up to her chin, another smile spread across his lips. A strange yet welcoming warmth in his chest flowed through him the longer he watched her peaceful face. He resisted the urge to lean down and place a small, innocent kiss on her forehead. Instead, he pressed two fingers to his lips and softly pressed them against her warm cheek.

“Goodnight, Kyouka–huh?” A strong yet gentle tug on his wrist prevented him from standing. Tightening around it was one of Kyouka’s earjacks. A bit afraid she woke up and was about to reprimand him for going into her room without his permission, he tried to carefully peel it off. It only tightened in response.

“Kaminari…” she mumbled, still asleep. She retracted her earjack, pulling him closer to the bed, they were slightly eye level.

“Uh, Jirou? Denki whispered, still trying to get out of her surprisingly tight hold. He stopped struggling when she turned onto her side, her face a few inches away from his.

“Mm…” She mumbled, her arms suddenly wrapping around his neck and hugging him close. Denki’s eyebrows disappeared into his hairline, a blush as red as Todoroki’s hair, and a small jolt of electricity running through the entirety of his body all happened in unison. Yet, the only thing he could focus on was Jirou’s pink lips a hair away from his cheek, her warm breath against his skin, and her adorable refusal to let him go. “Get in bed…need to sleep…hurry up…Jamming Yay.”

Before he could reply, both of her earjacks started to lightly poke against his cheeks, as if they were nudging him to get in bed. He wanted nothing more than to snuggle under the covers with her, his head screaming at him to get in there but the smarter part of him knew better. If Jirou were to wake up and find him in her bed, whether she invited him unconsciously or not, would set them off on an awkward rest of their evening.

Though this wasn’t the first time she invited him into her bed for completely innocent cuddles such as this.

“Okay, okay!” Denki relented apparently satisfying the two earjacks that seemingly had minds of their own. They retracted, mimicking a small nod of delight before returning to Kyouka. As if the universe was on his side, Kyouka rolled over, creating enough space for himself.

Awkwardly, Denki kicked off his house slippers and swung his legs onto her bed. He tested the mattress, anticipating a loud creak, but was relieved it was silent as he leaned back onto the pillow (on top of the covers of course). He glanced sideways at Kyouka, watching as she turned back towards him, throwing her arm around his chest and resting her cheek against his chest.

Denki threw away the nervousness and chuckled. He turned his head to stare at her, giving him a few moments to admire her adorable pout even in her sleep. He kept his hands clasped over his stomach trying his best to fight the heaviness in his eyelids.

A few minutes of shut-eye won’t hurt, was the last thing he thought to himself before he fell asleep.

“Hey, Yaomomo…Yeah, we’re doing okay…”

Kyouka stifled a yawn as she heard Denki’s faint voice. She slowly pried her eyes open, realizing she was cuddled up with a particularly warm and ‘un-pillow-like’ pillow.

“She’s asleep and took her medicine,” Denki replied in a way that was similar to a son responding to his mom. “Oh, you’re bringing home some food for us? You’re the best! I was about to order something online…” His voice vibrated through his chest and rang in her ears. She lifted her head, stifling a yawn behind her hand as she registered the position they were in. Denki didn’t notice her yet, his arm was respectfully around her shoulders, giving her a comfortable nook in his side. “Yeah…I will. Have fun you two! Okay–okay, okay, bye! Hanging up now!”

Kyouka shyly pressed her lips against her sleeve, her chin resting on Denki’s chest. “What are you doing in my bed?”

Denki gasped, his honey eyes widening as his phone dropped on his face. The blonde yelped as it smacked him right dap on his forehead then plopped onto the soft carpet below. “Ow, fuck! Um…” Denki chuckled nervously, ready for her earjacks to pierce his temple, but instead, he was met with a shy grin, a cute pink hue on her cheeks, and a cross between a playful glint and an embarrassed sheen. “You wouldn’t let me go until I got in bed with you.”

Liar ,” Kyouka accused, her tone light yet had an edge of annoyance. “You just wanted to get in bed with me.”

Denki shook his head, smiling apologetically as he instinctively rubbed her back, something he came to learn she loved especially when it came to calming her down. It did the trick. “Your ‘jirou-jacks’ did the thing again–”

“Again?” Kyouka hissed, her pink blush turning a darker shade of red as she glared at her earjacks. “I still don’t believe you. They only move when I move them.”

Denki relaxed and chuckled. “Say what you want, but this is the third time they did this. I didn’t want to give them the chance of piercing my brain!”

Kyouka adjusted herself, turning her cheek to tear her gaze away from the blonde. She brought her earjacks in front of her and narrowed her eyes at them. “Traitors.”

Denki laughed, his arm that timidly wrapped around her shoulders now confidently pulling her closer. He rubbed her back, “They like me! Don’t you?”

Kyouka’s pout vanished and it was replaced with a warm smile. She didn’t know if it was the medicine, the delicious meal she had, or the way Denki seemed to have caused the butterflies in her stomach to flutter that made her feel so much better. She placed her hand on the other, resting her chin on top of her hands, and tilted her head slightly to the side. She used one of her earjacks to affectionately poke his cheeks. “You’re an idiot, Kaminari Denki.”

Denki smiled, leaned forward, and placed a small kiss on her forehead, “And you’re beautiful, Jirou Kyouka.”

“I’m sorry I got sick, I know you’d rather be at the festivals with the others,” Kyouka mumbled, playing with the material of his shirt.

“Don’t apologize for something you can’t control. I know if I was sick, you’d stay back too,” He gave her a charming smile, and she blinked in a shy confirmation. “I wouldn’t have much fun if you weren’t there,” He answered honestly.

Kyouka wasn’t much for such silly, mushy talk, she wasn’t used to the way she was opening herself up to Denki in a way that was more than just friends. Though, when they were alone and in each other’s company, she came to appreciate and cherish the way he was able to make her feel.

Denki made her feel loved, and she could definitely get used to it.

Satisfied with his smooth talking (she wondered how he got so good with that), she laid back into his embrace as he securely wrapped his arm around her. Looking out into the balcony. Perhaps over the years, he learned how to make her happy and knew what to say just to have her fall harder than she already wanted to admit.

The sky was now a wonderful mixture of purple and oranges, the sun was just setting and creating a beautiful sunset. In their comfortable silence, Denki suddenly sat up. Confused, Kyouka looked at Denki with an arched eyebrow.

He walked to where her guitar leaned against the wall, before he picked it up he glanced over his shoulder. “Is it okay if I take this baby for a spin?”

“You don’t spin a guitar, Kaminari,” Kyouka pushed herself up on the bed and leaned against the wall. She nodded nonetheless as the blonde strummed its strings. He had a silly grin on his face and took a seat next to her on the bed. “What are you doing? Are you going to serenade me or something?” She raised her eyebrow, tucking her feet under his thigh to fight the small chill.

“Something like that,” Denki smiled as he plucked a few strings, then started to strum a steady rhythm, switching notes flawlessly versus how inexperienced he was in his first year. “I’ve been learning a favorite song of yours–”

“How do you know what my favorite song is?”

“Please, you hum it every time, it didn’t take long for me to figure it out. I am a genius after all,” Denki teased. “I asked Tokoyami, who would know he has an ear for music like you. Wait, do birds have ears?” He started to strum a familiar beat, causing Kyouka’s eyes to light up and her mind to follow along with the melody. She remained quiet, enjoying the music, yes, but loving the way Denki looked as he played so flawlessly.

Before she could say something, Denki opened his mouth and started to sing. Her heart soared and her eyes glued on him as he sang in such a sweet voice, it was soft, and timid but full of emotion and…tenderness.

Denki caught her gaze, a shy blush on his face but he continued, smiling as he sang.

Kyouka was speechless, she let his voice lull her into a state of happiness, one that she could cherish forever–something she knew she didn’t want to let go. He was beautiful, with his cheesiness, clumsiness, and all.

Kyouka scooted closer to him, crossing her legs and face a few inches from his. She leaned forward, her violet bangs tickling her forehead. “It’s working…”

Denki finished the song, lowering the guitar as he turned his full attention to her. “...what is?” He whispered, his honey-colored eyes on her lips.

“The serenade.” She moved closer.

“Yeah?” He breathed, hand reaching up to brush a strand of her hair behind her ear. “So what do I win?” His thumb brushed against her lips. “A kiss…?”

She giggled, “I’m sick, you idiot.” Though she wanted nothing more than to feel his lips against hers. He pouted adorably but quickly recovered when Kyouka kissed his cheek, then his forehead, and finally ever so slightly pressed a small kiss on the corner of his lips. “But I can give you something better.”

“Yeah?”

“How about…spending the rest of our school year here with me? And only me?” She moved onto his lap as he leaned the guitar against the bed. He welcomed her onto his lap, his hands on her thighs, stroking her soft skin.

“How about well after we graduate too?” Denki grinned, a wide, idiot grin that she’d come to love but still rolled her eyes at. “Looks who’s being cheesy now.” He arched an eyebrow.

“Are you complaining?” Kyouka huffed.

“Not at all,” Denki smiled wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close. “I could get used to it.”

“Well…” With Kyouka’s quirk, she could hear the many pairs of footsteps entering the dorms. Their friends were back and calling out to them. Knowing Yaoyorozu or Ashido would be up in her room any moment, she pulled Denki close and kissed him briefly, it was so fast Denki blinked and it was over. “...you’re gonna have to get used to it, Denki.”
