Nicole sat next to Wynonna at Shorty's a few days after the Tucker and Champ Fiasco. Waverly was off reading an old text of something for Dolls so Nicole knew that if she wanted to talk to Wynonna about the whole turning into a werewolf thing she would need to do it now. She turned to Wynonna and opened her mouth but before she could even get a word Wynonna spoke first.
"What's up Haughtshot? Your heart has been humming like a jackhammer for the last few minutes" Wynonna says with her normal sarcasm but Nicole could see a hint of concern in her eyes.
"You know how Waverly told me the 'family secret' right? Well she also told me that you are a Royal Alpha, aka high Alpha or whatever. Waverly told me that the Royal family has the ability to change others into wolves"
"Your point?" Wynonna asked even though she could see where Nicole was going with it.
"I want you to change me," Nicole said with a serious look on her face. Wynonna looked at her like she had two heads, nobody has ever asked her to change them. From her knowledge the change hurts like hell for non born werewolves. Also she's never done it before! She didn't want to hurt Nicole.
"Why? Why would you want that?"
"Because I want to share this with Waverly. She's told me what it's like to feel the wind in her fur, the ground beneath her paws, what it's like to howl at the moon, she also said that she doesn't like running alone. I don't want her to be alone. Wynonna" Nicole looks straight into Wynonna's eyes.
The two of them fall into silence once Nicole finishes. Wynonna thought about what Nicole said. Nicole hoped Wynonna would say yes. Finally after a few awkward moments Wynonna looks at Nicole.
"Are you sure about this?"
"Without a shadow of a doubt" Nicolw said as she looked into Wynonna's eyes. Wynonna looked at her for a second before nodding.
“Ok I’ll change you but not before you tell my sister” Wynonna laughs as she watches a look of worry take over Nicole's face. She turns into a whiny 5-year-old.
“Do I have to?” Nicole whined.
“If you want to go through with this then yes, I sure as shit ain't gonna tell my sister that her mate wants to be changed into a wolf” Wynonna says dismissively as she takes a swig of whiskey.
“Alright, alright I’ll tell her” Nicole slumps in the bar stool. They fall into silence as Wynonna continues to drink and Nicole lost in thought. A question pops into Wynonna’s head and she stops mid swig.
“When are we going to do this?”
“I was thinking right after I tell Waverly later today when she comes over to my house”
“How about we do it tomorrow that way you two can talk everything out and you can sleep on whether you really want to go through with it”
The two of them sit at the bar and continue to drink. Nicole drank a little more than usual for a little liquid courage because she didn't know how her girlfriend was going to react to the news. An hour passes in silence except for the clinking of glasses and the quiet music from the radio.
The bar doors opened and Nicole's eyes were drawn to the most beautiful person in the whole world, her girlfriend. Waverly Earp.
“Hey baby,” Waverly said once she made it to Nicole's side.
“Hey how did it go?”
“Good, I just had to translate a few things from Latin to English for Dolls”
“You know Latin?” Wynonna asked bewildered.
“Ego sum totaliter stupet balls” Waverly says and the other two just look at her.
“Huh?” they both ask at the same time.
“It means I’m totally amaze-balls”
“Oh”
“What else can my amazing girlfriend say?”
“amo te tam multo”
What does that mean?” Nicole asked with a smile as she listened to Waverly speak. Something about Waverly knowing and fluently speaking another language was sexy as hell and Nicole could listen to Waverly speak for hours on end and not get bored of her voice.
“It means, I love you so much,” Waverly said as she looked at Nicole.
“Well then amo te tam multo too” Nicole stumbled over the unfamiliar syllables.
“Not exactly the right pronunciation but close enough” Waverly finished as she leaned into Nicole and they got lost in each other's lips. A cough pulled their attention from each other towards Wynonna.
“Not in front of my whiskey you love birds, also Nicole don't you want to take her back to your place so you can tell her something?” Wynonna said as she looked at Nicole.
“Tell me what?” Waverly asked.
“Oh it’s nothing we can talk about when we get to my place” Nicole deflects Waverly’s question. Nicole knows she will have to tell Waverly before Wynonna would even consider changing her but she’s kind of scared that maybe Waverly doesn't want her to be a wolf, that she doesn't want to share that part of herself with Nicole.
“Let’s go” Waverly says as she gently but firmly pulls on Nicole's hand. The two of them walked out of the bar after a wave from Wynonna, they headed for Waverly’s jeep.
Waverly drove the jeep towards Nicole’s place. Making the journey in under five minutes. When Waverly pulled into Nicole’s drive they got out. They met in front of the jeep and grasped each other's hand and made their way to the front door.
Once Nicole unlocked the door and walked inside she went to the Kitchen to make them food while Waverly went in search of CJ, a big shabby fat fluffy orange cat that matched her owner in color. Waverly loved that cat almost as much as she loved Nicole.
When Nicole came into the living room with two plates of food one with normal lasagna for herself and a vegetarian version of lasagna for waverly. she found Waverly on the couch with CJ in her lap purring up a storm, they both looked so content Nicole kind of didn't want to bring up the wolf thing but knew she would have to if she wanted Wynonna to change her.
“Here you go baby, your favorite lasagna” Nicole said as she set the plate in front of Waverly on the coffee table.
“Thanks babe,” Waverly said as she dug into her food. Nicole was a little slower with her eating, working up the courage to tell Waverly everything.
The two sat in enjoyable silence, it wasn't that awkward silence between two people who had nothing to talk about. It was the type of silence that people chose to enjoy when you just wanted to spend time in the presents of your person. When they were finished Waverly set her plate and turned to Nicole.
"So what did you want to talk to me about? Because whatever it is, has your heart going crazy"
"Well um… ok here it is. I asked your sister to change me" Waverly just sat there looking at Nicole. Tears began to flow down Waverly's face.
"Oh baby I'm sorry, I'll tell her that I changed my mind" Nicole said but Waverly immediately started shaking her head.
"You would go through that pain? You would subject yourself to it? For me?"
“I would do a lot of things to you” Nicole said with conviction not noticing her switch of words.
“F-for me” Waverly stuttered
“Yup that too” Nicole said as she looked anywhere but at Waverly, her cheeks were a burning shade of red that matched her hair.
“But seriously I want this, I want you, I want to run with you by my side through the woods, I want to howl at the moon with you. I mean the pain only lasts for the first shift right?”
“You're really sweet, and yes only the first one but still from what i’ve read it hurts like hell” Waverly said with worry in her voice.
“Can we move on from the pain part?”
“Oh yeah, did Wynonna tell you when she was going to bite you?”
“Yeah tomorrow”
“That early” Waverly gasped, she was ok with Nicole doing this but to know it was happening so soon.
“Yeah I suggested we do it tonight but Wynonna said tomorrow, that way I could tell you and I could sleep on my decision just in case I were to change my mind, which I’m not going to”
“Speaking of sleeping, we should go do that,” Waverly said as she stood up with Nicole's hand held in her own, bringing Nicole to her feet and gently pulling her towards the stairs.
They got ready for bed and then climbed into bed together, Nicole playing the part of the big spoon and Waverly the little. Well she would be the little spoon if there wasn't a red colored fur ball curled up in front of her on the bed. Nicole was the big spoon with her arms wraped around Waverly, Waverly was the middle spoon and CJ lay agsint Waverly's front as the tiny spoon.
Light fluttered through the open curtains and woke the sleep occupants in the room. Nicole was woken up by a tiny paw patting her face, Indicating CJ was hungry but was too Impatient to wait for the girls to wake up on their own.
"Alright girl let's go. We don't want to wake Wave's up now do we?" Nicole said and carried CJ down stairs and grabbed her a can of cat food. She also made her and Waverly some food so Waverly could have breakfast in bed.
Nicole softly made her way back towards her bedroom. When she opened the door she was greeted with the most adorable site ever, Waverly was wrapped up in her mountain of blankets with only her head sticking out and her hair was everywhere on the pillow. She placed the plate on the night stand and turned to gently shake Waverly.
“Baby, baby time to wake up, baby” Nicole spoke in a kind of baby voice. Waverly made the most adorable face as she woke.
"Suus 'mature excitare" Waverly grunted as she opened her eyes.
"What?"
"I said it's too early to wake up" she grumbled.
"You speak the truth but I have breakfast for you. You can go back to sleep but your food will get cold" Nicole said as Waverly sat straight up at the word food.
"You made me breakfast?" Waverly asked with a smile.
Nicole is so kind Waverly thought.
"I wanted to do something nice for you to apologize about going to your sister about the whole changing into a wolf. I know you never said you were upset about that but I just wanted to say that ever since you told me about the possibility I've been thinking about it. You said that Wynonna could do it, I just didn't know how to ask Wynonna and I never meant to leave you out of the loop or anything. I" the rest of her sentence is cut off by Waverly's lips smashing int. When they pulled apart they both had goofy grins.
"It's so adorable when you ramble," Waverly laughed. Nicole went to reply but Waverly beat her to it.
"I appreciate that you're trying to say sorry but there really is no reason to, I understand why you went Wynonna. I just want you to understand the consequences of your decision" Waverly said with a sad smile.
"I don't care, I want to share this life, this experience with you"
"That's really sweet" they got lost in each other as they kissed.
"Eat your food, miss Earp" Nicole said when they finally pulled away from each other's lips.
"Yes mama," Waverly said with a smile and dug in. They both ate in silence, stealing glances at each other.
When they were done Nicole took the plates and placed them in the sink with a promise to herself to clean them later. She smiled when she went back to her bedroom as she saw Waverly and CJ playing together. Waverly held a cat toy above CJ and as she jumped to grab it Waverly moved it out of her reach.
"I wish I had a camera," Nicole said.
"If you're going to take a picture at least let me brush my hair first"
"I would totally wait until you were picture perfect, but let's be honest that doesn't take much to accomplish"
"You sure do know how to give a girl a compliment"
"Well for you it's very easy to say nice things to you, bonus is it makes you smile" Nicole smiled and her famous dimples popped.
"Alright, alright you're gonna make me blush"
"Ok, ok I'll stop. Do you have a shift at Shorty's or are you working with BBD today?"
"Dolls has me translating a bunch of latin texts, so I am working with him for the rest of the week. I don't have a shift with Shorty till next Wednesday"
"Well we should get dressed, we can carpool to the station together"
The two wordlessly work around each other to do their morning routine. When they climbed into Nicole's police issued cruiser, they immediately clasped their hands together over the center console.
Waverly was lost in thought as They made their way through the open fields of purgatory. She didn't know how to feel about Nicole going through the change. They made it to the station a few minutes later.
They walked into the BBD office and found Wynonna with her feet up on the table, Doc trying to work his phone, and Dolls going over paperwork. The three of them seemed to be Ignoring each other.
“Who pissed in your guys coffees, in Wynonna's case whiskey” Nicole laughed at her own joke but quickly sobered up when Dolls gave her a look. He stands up and walks towards her.
“I have forbidden Wynonna from turning you” Dolls says and earns a growl from Wynonna. Waverly looks from her sister to Dolls and back.
“Dolls you do know she is royalty right? You can't forbid her from doing anything and Nicole wants this, she’s not being forced into it”
“Wynonna works for me as a BBD agent I gave her a order not to turn any humans willing or not”
“Tu es culus!” Waverly almost yelled. Everyone looked at her like she grew another head.
“What?” Dolls asked.
“You're an asshole!” she yells as she walks back out the door and towards Nicole’s desk. Back in the office Nicole looks from the open door to Wynonna and finally lands on Dolls.
“I asked Wynonna to change me. It has nothing to do with you, I as a human know full well what I am stepping into and wish Wynonna Earp high alpha to change me tonight at 8:30 at my place” Nicole says and follows Waverly out the door. She finds Waverly at her desk reading one of the books she keeps in the bottom drawer for times like these. Where Waverly sits with her as she works. She sat in her seat but didn't try to talk to Waverly seeing that she was not in the mood right now for a chat.
Back in the office Dolls watched as Nicole walked out and when she was out of sight he turned to Wynonna with a glare.
“You will not be going to Nicole's place tonight, am I clear?” he spoke with an air of fake authority. Wynonna just nodded, in no way was she going to listen to him but he didn't need to know that. Unknown to her he knew that she would never really listen to him but his bosses wanted to know what happened to humans when changed. He has been ordered to keep an eye on Nicole.
They continued on as if that whole debacle had never happened. The team got to work looking for their new revenant while Nicole and Waverly sat out on the bullpen.
“Baby?” Nicole asked after hours of doing paperwork, she put her pen down and rolled her neck. When she looked over to Waverly she was still reading but a different book from the bottom drawer. The same books Waverly has probably already read a million times.
“Baby?” Nicole repeated when Waverly did not respond. After a few seconds Waverly looked up.
“He can't force Wynonna to do anything or not do something” Waverly growled out.
"Well you heard what I told him and you should know your sister. There is no one alive or dead that could tell what to do. Well she listens to you well enough" Nicole says trying to lighten the mood. It works as Waverly gives a small smile.
"Baby I know you're angry at him but just ignore him" Nicole says but their attention is pulled by Dolls walking out of the station. They walk back to the BBD office to see where he's headed off to.
"Wynonna, where is Dolls going?" Waverly asked.
"I don't know he wouldn't tell me" she says a little hotly.
"Look Wynonna I know what I told him but if this is how much trouble my turning causes than you don't have to change me"
"Like hell is he going to tell me who I can and can't change. As high Alpha I am in charge. If you are having doubts of being changed we don't…" the rest of her sentence is cut off by Nicole.
"I want to be changed, I have never been more sure about anything in my life other than talking to this little spit fire" Nicole said with a smile as she looked at Waverly.
"Well we can't worry about where Dolls went and we can't ask until he comes back so we should all get back to work" Nicole says as she walks back towards her desk with Waverly not far behind once she picks up her translating work.
The hours rolled by at a snail's pace. The two worked in silence working on their own work but still close to each other. Dolls didn't come until almost the end of shift. When he did come in he looked sweaty, like he had been busy the last few hours.
"Where were you?" Waverly asked before he could make it to the BBD office.
"That information is classified" Is all he said and with that he walked away. A few seconds after he walked into the office Wynonna and Doc walked out.
"Ready Haught rod?"
"I don't get off shift for a few more minutes" Nicole said but a look from Wynonna she started walking towards nedley's office
"Hey boss, do you mind if I clock out early today? I have a date night planned with Waverly" Nicole explained, she didn't like lying to Nedley but she didn't want to tell him she was going to be a werewolf the next time he saw her.
"Yeah sure, your next shift ain't till next Wednesday so enjoy your four day weekend" Nedley said dismissively. She bid him a goodnight and met the others outside.
"I have a feeling we should do this at the homestead" Wynonna said once everyone was in Waverly's jeep. Carpooling to save on gas and the environment. The others nodded and Waverly headed into the direction of the homestead.
"So I'll be in wolf form so I can use my teeth to bite you" Wynonna explained as she walked towards the barn. she explained once they made it to the homestead and climbed out of the jeep.When Wynonna came back out of the barn in her wolf form Nicole’s heart started beating at a mile a minute. Wynonna sttod at an astounding 9 feet. she was the biggest wolf in history, the size of her wolf had a lot to do with her title as high Alpha.
“Baby, are you sure you want to do this? We can all hear your heartbeat” Waverly asked with concern etched into her voice.
“Yeah I want to do this. I’m just feeling a little nervous that's all” Nicole explained with a smile, she gave a gent;y squeeze to their joined hands.
Wynonna let out a bark to get their attention, when she had she walked up to Nicole and looked at for a minute.
“Let’s go Earp, bite me,” Nicole joked. Wynonna gave her a look as if to say ‘you asked for’ and then bit down on Nicole’s arm. Nicole looked at the bite mark and then to Wynonna.
“That didn't hurt that much” she smiled but that quickly fell away when she looked at Waverly.
“That wasn't the painful part,” Waverly said with tears in her eyes.
All of a sudden Nicole fell to her knees and let out a short scream. Pain spread like a wildfire from the bite mark throughout her entire body, enveloping her and clouding her mind in nothing but pain. As easily as the pain started it stopped, and when Nicole opened her eyes wondering when she did that. She looked around and noticed with a little amazement how much better she could see the world around her.
She looked at the ground and noticed the Individual specs of dirt, her eyes turned to the barn and saw where the paint was peeling away, where the tiniest of cracks appeared in the wood. Her eyes settled on Waverly and found the most beautiful creature standing before her. With her new found sight she could see the almost Invisible freckles on her face, the brown of her eyes, the years old scars on her skin, the slight change in her hair color as it flowed down her back.
Waverly walked towards and put her hand out. Nicole walked into it and that's when she noticed the movement of her body. The movement of four legs instead of two. Just now noticing the ache at the base of her tail as it moved through the air with excitement. The movement of her ears that are now on top of her head when she hears anything. The twitch of her nose. Nicole stood at almost 8 feet.
“You're so cute, Nicole” Waverly basically squealed as she brushed her fingers between Nicole's ears. A loud purring disturbed the otherwise quiet night. Nicole realized a second later that the sound was coming from her.
“And fluffy” Waverly giggled as she pushed her hand into Nicole’s side and her hand disappeared in the depths of red fur. Nicole gave her the best smile she could in her form. Doc came to them with a body mirror and set it down in front of Nicole. She saw the reflection of a red fur colored 8 foot werewolf.
“You're an alpha. A strong one of that” Waverly purred as she shivered, Nicole noticing this let out a loud satisfied bark. A bark that shook the ground.
“We should go for a run,” Doc suggested. Both Waverly and Doc shifted, Nicole was floored. Looking at Waverly’s wolf form with her new werewolf sight. She was beautiful. All sleek lines and rippling muscles beneath her thick, shining coat of brunette fur.
Hazel eyes peered at her from a beautiful face. Nicole sucked in a breath of air and smelt the most amazing scent. Lavender.
Nicole was pulled out of her staring and sniffing as she found her vision filled with Waverly’s brunette colored fur as she brushed past Nicole and swooshed her face with her tail enticing Nicole to follow.
Nicole follows the sway of Waverly’s hips as they walk towards the woods. Nicole was like a newborn foal as she ran, Wynonna found it funny when every few seconds Nicole would fall straight on her ass. Waverly tried helping by acting as her werewolf/ human crutch. Waverly would push herself into Nicle when she noticed Nicole about to fall. it helped Nicole regain her balance.
They ran together for hours, so long that the sun started to come up and the sky started to turn a beautiful shade of orange. The four of them were sort of exhausted as they headed back to the homestead. Wynonna and Doc went towards the house but Nicole didn't want to shift back yet. Waverly directed her towards the barn. She walked in and shifted back to human.
“Hey baby” Waverly said as she wrapped her arms around Nicole’s neck.
“Do you want to shift back yet?” Waverly asked. Nicole just shook her head and leaned into Waverly and took a big sniff of her lavender scent. She went to say something but Nicole’s mouth opened in a jaw breaking yawn.
“We should go to bed” Waverly laughed when Nicole’s mouth snapped shut at the end of her yawn with an audible snap of teeth. Waverly walked over to the bed and pulled the blankets down to the floor.
“Come on baby come to bed” Waverly gestured to the blankets. Nicole sleepy walked over and layed down. Waverly laid down next to her and Nicole wrapped herself around her. her 8 foot body covered Waverly completely, Nicole's wolf kept the draft that came through the barn off of Waverly.
“Look who's fluffy now” Waverly laughed and she snuggled into Nicole’s fur. Waverly loved the feeling of Nicole’s big warm wolf body around her. They laid together and slowly fell asleep.
