32 Rotations

Summary:

Set somewhere in Star Wars the Bad Batch galaxy of things, after season one

Thirty-two rotations.
That was how long he waited for a pickup.

Some days, he is fine, some days he loses it. Going mad is never fun, right?

Crosshair was left behind, once again. Only this time, it was of his own request.
Counting down the days, when the Empire would come for him…

Crosshair’s thoughts during his time spent on the platform - a diary of sorts.

Work Text:

Rotation 1, Go, see if I care!

Watching the Marauder ascending to the high heavens.
The skies suddenly blue with the sun out accentuating the hues.

Huh, never really seen that colour before, not here. Not on Kamino.
Oh well, enough of the weather report!

Now, it’s just a matter of sitting in wait, before the scouts come and pick me up.
Soon, right?

Because I matter, to the Empire.

Later

Can’t believe they all left.
Guess it was inevitable, after all that, well, bravado, that they would go.
But what else was there to say?

I offered for them to join me!
Join the Empire! Because they all are better than being mercenaries.
Setup the whole thing too!
But, guess Hunter wasn’t really feeling it.

It’s all or for the Kid right now!

As what am I to him, to them anymore?

Kriff them all!
The Bad Batch.
More like the Dumbass Batch
I don’t need them.

The Empire will come for me, because I, am important to the Empire.

I can wait.
The scout ships will be here soon enough, because they know I survived.
Rampart, will send someone.
For sure.

Rotation 3, This is going well!

It’s been three days since the Batch left me here and no sign of the Empire.
I guess, they have more important things to do?
Or then, it was an oversight?
They do know I am here so… oh well.

But, first order of being stranded: Survival!

Fishing today for the first time.
It’s well, raw. But I think I can manage.
The few ration bars will take out the bad taste of it.
The water is a bit salty, but if will have to do.

Luckily, the sun is behind the clouds but no rain, so far.
I found a small space to crawl into, in case it does.
It’s good for sleeping too.
Not that I’ve slept any. But if I decide to do so.

This is fun!
Like camping!

WTF?

Rotation 5, They’ll come for me, I’m sure of it!

So, rain.
Blasted Kamino weather!

Sitting in this one tiny spot.
Chewing on the last of the rations.

The fish, well, guess it went all bad.
Not that it was any good anyway.
Maybe I will try some other species next time.
It’s easy, with the vibroblade, to fish and filet.
Maybe tomorrow.

Feeling tired so catching up with some sleep.
The rain is soaking in thought the cracks though.
But nothing I can about that now.

Oh sleep, please take me (and just let me never wake up!)

Rotation 10 perhaps 12, maybe 15? Loosing… count?

Dank Farrik!
The sun is up again!

I would think that with a water planet with most rotations around the year having heavy rain, there would be no sun. But oh no! It’s been up there, for three days in a row now as if mocking me! Yeah, I see you, kriffing star all high and mighty up there!

The shelterer isn’t any good either and the sunburns on my face are starting to ache.

My eyes are a blur, my headache is worse today.
Everything, is starting to ache!!!

Cannot move, even if I wanted to.

The stiffness in my joints not helping any.

Damn, I must be getting old!
Loosing count of the days now too.

The water’s edge is too far away, so no fish today.
Not that the taste of it is alluring anyway.
So, guess I’ll just sit here, in this one spot, trying to ignore it all.
Whatever!

Guess death cannot come sooner?

Rotation 21, Oh for Sithspit’s sake!

Fucking hell and all that follows it!

I wish I had a blaster!
This damned vibroblade would only leave the job half assed, a mess, a lingering long wait!
It’s starting to look like the best idea still, no matter the wait.
But, the blaster would be fast enough.
A sting of pain, and then nothing.

Blakness.
The end.

I would welcome it.
Death.

So, why am I not doing anything about it?
Just hanging on here like a coward?

Because that is what I am now.
Apparently.
A self-absorbed coward!
Hiding.
From the Empire, my family, all of them.
On this very platform.

I could try swimming back to the sunken city and see if there is anything there.
But those beasties below would certainly catch me before that.
Not a pretty death for sure.
Still, that is an option to think about?

Or then, I just wait here…
One more rotation.
Because, just maybe…

They will come.

Rotation 27, Yeah, still here!

It’s raining again.

A relief for sure.
Am on my last ration.

The fish aren’t biting, haven’t done so in a few days.
The rain water is better to drink though.

I am soo, karking tired.
I just want to fall asleep and never wake up again.
Yeah, I’m repeating myself.
But the tapping of the water keeps me awake.
So, no death today?

Too weak to walk much around any more.
It’s all fine.
Soon, I will be dead anyway.

At least that is my wish.

To die here, on this Force forsaken platform.
Close to the place I was made on.
The poetry, the irony of it all!

Or then, the universe has decided to have one more good laugh at my expense.
And keep me alive!
For Sith’s sake karking hells!

I wonder sometimes though, what the others are doing.
Are they safe, did they get away okay?
I know I really shouldn’t care, but what can you do?
I am not a completely heartless idiot.

Well, mostly, but not, completely.
Unfortunately for me.
Still, cannot help the lingering thoughts.
Of them, my family.

Then the other thought sometimes haunts me.
Why, did I decide to stay behind?

But they let me stay, didn’t they?

Rotation 32, Kriffing finally!

“Sir! In here, we got a live on here!”

Stop shouting, whomever or whatever you are.
Go away!
Leave me alone!
Kriffing apparition!

“It’s okay trooper, we’ve got you.”

“Wh.. hat? Who?”

“Don’t try to talk. We’ll take care of you. You’re going home soldier.”

Being back, what’s the point though?

“Remind me again, how long were you on that platform, waiting for rescue?”

“Thirty-two rotations, Sir.”

“Hm, that is commendable. But, why would you even want to come back?”

It wasn’t a question and I had an answer.
Not a real one anyway, part from the jargon I spout out oh so casually.

“I’m a soldier of the bla bla bla.”

I am back, here, again, with the Empire.
And more and more I feel, like I really, don’t belong here.

But, what could I do?
Where, could I go?
Who, would even want me?
I am damaged goods, and tey all know it.
All of them.

So, guess I just stay here, until the last day.
