Summary:

Agent Samantha Maxis discovers her now deceased and infected father's journal, which held all the details of how things had ended up like they were now...

Chapter Text

Holding her breath like her life depended on it, because it very well most likely did, she watched with a combination of anger and fear as an all-too familiar face dragged itself across the ground and past the rubble that she was hiding behind.

Once she was certain that it was gone, Samantha slipped out from her hiding place. Noticing that something that wasn't there before had been left where the infected once was, Samantha approached the item that had seemingly fallen out of the torn coat of familiar crawler that had barely missed her.

Taking a closer look, she realized that it was a journal. A thick one with a front and back made from leather. Although hesitating, she crouched down and took the book into her gloved hands.

Samantha brushed her hand over her father's journal, her parents blood staining the leather cover, the newly infected scientist having lost it when he was separated from the bottom half of his body.

She remembered the events of that day very vividly. Why wouldn't she? Not only was it a recent event, but a heavily traumatizing one as well, and not only for her...

The hopeless and fearful look in her fathers eyes. The rage and bloodlust in his business partners face. The unearthly transformation from Tubby to what they call Apothicons. The pleading from her father, the sobbing from her and her brothers, the screams of agony and fear from all around, even the maniacal laughter from the newly transformed creature. The gore, intestines and organs strewn all across the floor, blood splattered in every direction.

Samantha grimaced, shaking the violent flashbacks from her head, inhaling sharply and exhaling slowly before hesitantly opening the journal to its first page, which was coated with blood.

To her surprise, it seemed to be a diary, or more accurately, a documentary of the events of the apocalypse that her father had seen or heard about. Flipping and skimming through it, there even seemed to be entries from before the initial Massacre. Samantha tightened her grip on the journal, and she let out a shaky sigh. There was so much that she had missed…but this could help her immensely! If she wanted to get the full story, she would have to do some snooping, no matter how wrong it felt. Begrudgingly, she flipped back to the very first page and began to read…
