Work Text:

Hermione had liked Seamus since they had met on the train in their first year— there was something about him that called to her.

As she grew older, she wished he felt the same but there was no chance. Ginny said she should tell him how she feels but Hermione couldn’t work the courage up.

Standing at Ginny’s wedding with Seamus as the Best Man was hard to watch him flirt with everyone in the room. But she did it for Ginny.

The moment she could she escaped and went back to work. It was the only escape she had from him now.

Seamus moved through life thinking in two ways; before Hermione and after Hermione.

Before meeting Hermione and becoming friends with hers his life was in black and white. No colour ever entered his life.

But after meeting Hermione and getting to know the amazing person she was, he saw colour in everything. Even during the war when everything was turning to shit— with Hermione around there was something bright in his life.

Dean and Ginny told him he should just tell her— they highly encouraged it. But Seamus knew he would just have his heart broken. There was no way she would go for a bloke like him.

So he tried to show that he could be happy with other women and flirted up a storm in front of Dean and Ginny. Pretending that inside he wasn’t dying watching Hermione live through life without him.

Ginny must have known Seamus was coming, she got Hermione talking about him and what she wished would happen between them.

“Ginny, please stop. I know he will never return my feelings. I just have to keep going and reminding myself he can’t be mine,” Hermione pleaded with Ginny.

She was about to respond when Seamus entered the room and spoke, “Hermione, is that all true? You like me?”

“I do, but it’s okay, I understand,” Hermione said, smiling at him to reassure him.

“Hermione, shut up,” Seamus started, “Ever since you came into my life things have been colourful. And I would love to see where this leads if you’ll have me.”

“Are you sure?”

“I am,” Seamus said.

“Let’s try going for dinner,” Hermione said.

“About bloody time,” Ginny mumbled as she walked out of the room, glad that her two friends had finally seen how the other was feeling.
