the little regrets

Summary:

An episode in which Sehun regrets not being there for the times Junmyeon needed him the most.

Notes:

Day 17 of 365 Days with Seho
It's been a while everyone, sorry for being MIA.
I wasn't in the best condition, mentally.
But I really wanted to write today, so here's a short fic in Sehun's POV.

Work Text:

─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────

There are only a few things that Sehun regrets in his life; not being there when his grandmother died, not being able to remember the name of the kid he met when he was younger, and not being able to finish college in the US.

And while they may seem like simple things, Sehun took them to heart.

Sehun may look tough on the outside but in reality, he has quite a sensitive temperament; his mood changes quickly.

Even as a kid, he barely talked, so his parents were worried to the point that they brought him to a psychologist, but even the doctors said that there was nothing wrong with him; he was just built that way.

He likes to keep things to himself instead of being an open book. He likes observing people rather than interacting with them. And while there might be a few exceptions, that is still who he was, in general.

Sehun enjoys his solitude, and he is glad to have met Chanyeol, who allowed him peace during his school days but, at the same time, pulled him out of his comfort zone while still respecting his boundaries. It is rare to find a friend as good to him as Chanyeol was to him.

─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────

When Sehun met Junmyeon for the second time, he knew that he could not afford to let him go again, not when his first love was standing a few meters away from him.

From the moment that he laid his eyes again on Junmyeon, he knew he was the one for him.

While he is not a keen believer in love at first sight, he fell for Junmyeon way back when they were kids; he remembers how he thought he was an angel. And truly, even if it was second, third, or fourth, he would keep falling for him.

Every time Sehun sees Junmyeon, he keeps on realizing just how much he loves him; despite barely knowing him.

So, Sehun tries his best to get ahold of Junmyeon, even though he tries his hardest to push Sehun away.

─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────

The first time they met, Junmyeon told Sehun that he was better off not being friends with Sehun. And while that initially hurt Sehun, it worked out in his favor. After all, Sehun wanted to be something more than friends, so that was completely fine.

But then again, Sehun realized that being friends would be a good foundation for a relationship. Although, if he was being completely honest, he didn’t care at that point what their relationship would be as long as he could be in Junmyeon’s life.

Growing up in a loving family, Sehun was used to getting what he wanted, but when he met Junmyeon, who was guarded, he realized that he had to be very careful in how he approached him. He needed to be patient and understanding if he was going to find his way into Junmyeon’s life, and so he did just that.

Every day since they met, he would find an excuse to skip lunch offered by his classmates and head towards Junmyeon’s seat so that they could eat together. Of course, this was highly objected to by Junmyeon, who did his best to avoid Sehun at all costs.

It was funny when Sehun thought back about it; Junmyeon was always running away from him, sneaking towards the door, hoping that Sehun didn’t see him. Little did he know that Sehun was watching him all the time.

Eventually, Junmyeon gave up and allowed Sehun to eat lunch with him. He remembers being so surprised when Junmyeon asked him where he wanted to eat. He wanted to cry right there and then, but he held himself back, afraid of scaring Junmyeon away.

─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────

There are only a few things that Sehun regrets in his life, but he didn’t realize until he met Junmyeon that he would have more.

When that professor dared to lay his hands on Junmyeon, Sehun was not there. Sehun swore he wanted to punch him until he was on the ground, bleeding. Sehun even imagines bloodying his hands just so the bastard can be dead. But he had to keep his calm because he didn’t want Junmyeon to get even more traumatized than he already was.

So instead, he pulled some strings so that the professor would never be able to teach again, much less go anywhere near Junmyeon. Sometimes, it pays off to have a well-connected family, and this was the one time that Sehun was thankful for that.

Still, Sehun regretted only being able to do that and not being able to rescue Junmyeon. And yes, Sehun knows that Junmyeon needs no rescuing because he is a fine and capable man, but a part of him still wants to do that.

─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────

Another thing that Sehun regretted was meeting Junmyeon a little too late; if only he had met him earlier. Junmyeon wouldn’t have to get hurt by that temporary professor who had the guts to leave him like that.

Sehun does not understand how anyone could bear to leave Junmyeon when he is such a kind and caring person. The whole world is damned, but he would never tell Junmyeon what he did when he learned about it.

When Junmyeon opened up to him and told him how he was hurt and scarred by that man, Sehun was seething with anger. Of course, he had to hold himself back when he was with Junmyeon, but as soon as he was able to get to work, he called in Mr. Byun and had him take care of that problem. The man that was once a professor would soon be suffering all his life; that was the price he had to pay for hurting someone dear to Sehun.

Yet, Sehun has that in his regrets; no matter how much he tried to fix things, the fact remains that he was not there when Junmyeon needed him the most.

─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────

Sehun stared at his boyfriend, who was sleeping peacefully next to him. He brushes a few strands off Junmyeon’s forehead and kisses it lightly, trying his best not to wake him up. He wishes they could be together like this for a very long time, possibly forever.

There is nothing more that he wanted than to spend the rest of his life with Kim Junmyeon, his one, and only love.

When Junmyeon’s eyelids fluttered and opened up, he smiled brightly at Sehun. Sehun’s heart skipped a few beats.

“Se…hun,” Junmyeon mutters, voice still laced heavily with sleep.

“Junmyeon, you can go sleep some more. It’s still too early.”

“I…love…you…” Junmyeon says before falling back to sleep.

Sehun buries his face in his hands, blushing hard.

There was a time when saying those words was too difficult for Junmyeon, and yet now, he was able to say them so easily to Sehun; even when he was sleepy.

Sehun’s heartbeat was out of control; if this was a dream, he hoped he would never wake up.

─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────

Though Sehun has a lot of little regrets in his life, if there is one thing he would never regret, it is meeting Junmyeon again. The fates and the universe must have colluded; all the stars aligned to get them to see each other once more.

And while Oh Sehun was not a believer in fate, he’d gladly thank everything out there for letting him see Junmyeon once more.

Sehun has fallen in love with Junmyeon ever since they first saw each other, but it was not until he realized that he wanted Junmyeon to be happy, even if it wasn’t with him, that he knew he was really in love.

Because love is when another person’s happiness is also your own.

Whenever Sehun sees that Junmyeon is happy, he feels happy too.

And Sehun swears that he will do everything in his power not to add any more regrets to his list and that he will always protect Junmyeon’s happiness.
