Summary:

Set during and around season two of Star Wars the Bad Batch / S2E5

A retcon. The missing scenes if you will of the episode and a slight change in the general direction of the story. Add-ons.

Part of The Bad Batch Scenes and Fixits series

Notes:

Okay, here is the thing.
I love, love, love Wanda Sykes.

That being said.
The character of Phee Genoa, well, does not sit so well with me.

She is supposed to be witty, funny, a scoundrel with a good heart maybe?
So why am I not feeling it?
I love these types of characters, Han Solo, Hondo Ohnaka... Darth Maul heh.

And so, whatever feels like "Phee mistreatment" in this tale, well, let's just say it is what it is.
Maybe she will prove me wrong at a later point?

Chapter 1: At Cid’s

Chapter Text

‘Listening to tall tales told by a self-proclaimed adventurer can be fun, to some extent. Until it gets old.’

Echo and Hunter remained seated at the bar while the rest of their squad surrounded Phee.

Even Tech, the find having piqued his interest, the one of the “treasure” Omega had brought back from the scrapyard, had found his way to the core group. The oohs and ahs filling the room as the compass as it turned out to have been, was being admired as were the tales following the find by Phee.

Tech had been right with one thing though. The same story, or similar to the same story, was having more and improved upon versions being told each time Phee was inclined to share it with anyone listening. Whether it was all true, all of her adventures across the galaxy? Well, guess it was neither here nor there, but she sure could captivate her audiences.

Something which of Omega and Wrecker had clearly having become permanent patrons of. Phee’s captive audience.

“Treasure!”

Omega exclaimed cheerfully.

“We can go if you want to.”

Phee offered the girl.

She had a ship after all, and taking the Kid with her? Well.

But Omega was already ahead of Phee.

“Hunter, please can we go? Please!”

The pleading puppy dog eyes on Hunter, certainly knowing how to bring round the surrogate father of hers.

Hunter felt so tired. So, so totally tired. Sighing rather heavily while glaring into the begging wide eyed girl in front of him.

The whole mercenary thing, running miscellaneous missions for credits simply to keep their daily life a float, the fuel, the food, all of it. Well, it was new and taxing and something, none of them having been prepared for. But. They needed to do it to survive. Right?

Echo had been right in the one simple thing though. They were soldiers, not mercenaries, not parents, not, civilians.

It was all so difficult in adjusting that which they had been made for, into this, being self-sufficient civilians making their own way in the galaxy.

But, they were also hiding. From the Empire. So, it wasn’t all as easy as that. Going off the grid and on their own.

Hunter was beginning to think that Echo had been also right in the fact, that they should have taken up on Rex’s offer.

It wasn’t too late for that though.

Something he had already discussed with Echo at length during their mission together.

Still, Hunter regretted they could not have a better option to give for Omega. And themselves too, a better life than this. Somewhere far, far away from it all. And certainly, away from the Empire.

Another heavy sigh.

Hunter turned to Echo, seeing a similar emotion etched onto Echo’s face. That of resignation.

The two of them having bonded during their last mission and being much more in synch than they had been before. Less of the constant bickering between them happening now, which was good for the whole family.

And so, seeing the kind of an agreement there, in the expression of Echo’s, Hunter made his decision.

“Fine. We can go.”
