Chapter 1: Yeah, so, yet another quarrel!

Chapter Text

‘Family, partners, friends, everyone, has words, sometimes. But even words can hurt, those spoken out of anger, and especially those, we love.’

“Hunter, going on that mission was not a decision you should have made.”

Echo was berating their Sergeant for what he considered to have been poor judgement on Hunter’s part.

They had almost gotten blown out of the skies, having infiltrated an imperial strong hold just because Cid and Phee had managed to convince Omega and Wrecker there would be a good haul to be gained with a pile of credits to be waiting at the very end.

How wrong had they all been.

“You did not object when we decided to go. Well, not much anyway.”

Hunter interjected, being on the defensive already.

“I did too! I told you it was a bad idea. Five times!”

Echo wasn’t backing up either. Not when their fight escalated this quickly, and this one sure had.

“Well, you went on it anyway. Willingly. So why complain now, after the fact?”

They had been having their words in private so, Echo was venting without any restraints.

Because what he was telling Hunter now, was better to be said between the two rather than the whole team having ears on this one.

Besides lately, their fight intervals had been increasing which was certainly not good for morale, nor their relationship either.

“I go with you, because you need me to watch your backs! We could have all been killed on that mission. And for what? Credits? Which we did not even get. Because it was a bust.”

Echo was totally fuming as Hunter had become more and more reckless these days. Taking on missions without thinking too much. Just because either Cid or Phee suggested them to do so.

And well, Phee was pretty much having managed to strung Omega around her finger. The Kid following the Pirate everywhere when she was present.

Pulling out the big guns. The guilt trip was next on the line for Echo.

“I am beginning to think Crosshair was right. About dragging Omega along on missions, out there where there is danger. She is a child still and she needs stability. And these missions we are constantly on, aren’t it.”

Hunter simply glared at Echo, without any comeback.

For many reasons.

One of them being Crosshair still a total sore spot for him. And Echo had gone there, knowing it would hurt Hunter more than this, bickering between them could.

Finally recovering, Hunter had found his words. Sending them hurling Echo’s way.

“And I suppose if we were with Rex, we would all be so much safer. Huh?”

Yeah, Hunter too knew which hurt strings to pull. The Clone Cause. Rex. All of it a sore spot for Echo for sure.

Because they weren’t helping any. Well, not much anyway. A few errant clones having been reduced and hauled to Rex’s base, that being pretty much it.

Echo, wasn’t going to let Hunter win this one though. Clearly.

“At least Omega would be safe at the base. Having all the vod’e around her.”

Because the regs certainly, took care of their own. At least in Echo’s opinion. And he wasn’t wrong either in said assessment. Things had changed. There were no longer them and the regs. As the fate of all clones was hanging at a balance.

They argued for a moment longer. Sending stingers each others way until finally Hunter stomped out from their shared room. Leaving a very angry but hurt Echo behind.
