Chapter 1: Fish

Chapter Text

There’s this human I always see. He’s tall, quiet, and hairless. Hairless, except for his head.

He likes to prowl around my territory. Stupid human! I’ll teach him a lesson sometime. Click-clack, his funny-looking paws would always make a noise every time he passes by. It’s annoying. He’s annoying.

Except, he always brings food. It’s no better than the fearsome prey I hunt, but it’ll do. Every night, he’d bring me an offering. Sometimes it is fish. Other times, it is chicken. Besides his pesky footsteps and weird-looking fluffy neck, he’s an obedient servant.

I’ll let him off the hook for now.

There’s this human I always see. He doesn’t know how to respect personal space.

Tonight, he dares to touch me with his filthy human paws. Stupid human! I tell him to go away. I don’t like being touched.

He says something in their funny language. His meows are lower than mine, quieter. I yell at the stupid human to go away again. He doesn’t listen. Again, he meows. I do not understand the meows of a human. They are very bad at it.

His large paw comes closer. How dare he!

I give them a good scratch. That’ll teach him. Stupid human.

He finally gets his filthy paw out of my face.

He meows again. I do not understand. I lick my own paw. Itchy, itchy, itchy. I do not like it when my paw is itchy. Was his paw itchy? Did he want me to scratch it for him? That must be it. Humans cannot do things on their own. The humans cannot do anything without our help.

Screech. Food! The human has brought food.

I eat the offering. It’s tuna today. He brings his large paw back to me again. It still must be itchy. I bite it for him. He gave me food so I should reward him.

The human meows. It’s louder this time. He must be thanking me.

I am a good cat.

There’s this human I always see. He passes by me. A funny yellow thing is on his face.

I call out for him. Human, where is my food?

The human doesn’t listen. Stupid Human.

I follow him. He better give me food. The fluffy white fur on his neck is on his stomach now. It has red. Did he eat a big fish without me?

The human pushes the wall and it opens. He walks in without me. The wall swings back and closes. How dare he not bring me with him!

I scratch the wall. Human, human, where are you?

Thud, thud, thud. The human is quiet, but his footsteps are very loud. He couldn’t catch prey off-guard if he’s that loud. I should teach him how to move quietly. Silly human.

The wall moves again. The human is there with the white fur still pressed against himself with red. There’s more red. Did he eat more fish without me? Or was it a bird?

Hmph. I move past him to look for the fish. The human meows but I ignore him.

Fish, fish, where are you?

Screech.

Fish!

The human gives me his offering. Good. Silly human. He would’ve forgotten it if I didn’t remind him.

The human goes somewhere through another moving wall. I ignore him. Fish is more important than Human.

He comes back later. His white fur is gone and so is that yellow thing. He sits on this tall grey thing. Sleep? He is asleep now.

I jump onto the grey thing. He is missing his white fur now. I will watch over him until it grows back. Fur is very important.

I dream of fish and chicken.
