Chapter Text
The day had finally concluded, which didn't seem to last long. All of them had lots of fun, a day of making cookies and playing outside only seemed to last a few minutes and now it was time to go to bed. This was a sleepover At the Suzuki’s house, everyone was sleeping in Sunny and Mari’s bedroom. Everyone had brought sleeping bags except for Sunny and Mari who didn't need them because they had beds.
Everyone had settled down and one by one fell asleep. Kel obviously was the first to go. Then after that was Hero and Mari who were sharing a bed, both fell asleep at the same time. And Aubrey soon followed after, the only ones remaining was Sunny and Basil
The bedroom was a calming silence except for the ceiling fan and the Hushed chatter of the Blonde boy who had his sleeping bag positioned right next to Sunny’s bed. Basil would talk alot to Sunny. He was the best, a great listener, and so very nice. He was so lucky to have him.
The Moon shining through the bedroom window created a beautiful glow into the room. Sunny was getting very sleepy, he laid on his back looking at the ceiling and listening to Basil whispering to him about plants. His voice was really putting him into deeper drowsiness. It wasn’t that he wasn’t listening though, he was hearing every word about Tulips or Sunflowers. Sunny found the engagement of his interest very cute and endearing.
“You know there are over 150 species of tulips” he was very focused on that flower. He always loved flowers and plants as long as he could remember that was his interest, Before finding his current friend group he had no one to talk about his interest to. He hardly had friends before this, a small little invisible boy who went through life. It wasn't until Aubrey invited him to the group that for the first time in his life he had people he could talk to.
After basil had finished his last sentence about tulips he stayed silent. He turned his head glancing at all his beloved friends. His eyes wandered to the other side of the room, Mari’s bed. She cuddled with Hero to fall asleep. There was an aching feeling in Basil’s chest, he longed for that feeling to be held, to feel so safe and comforted by a person as they fell asleep so peacefully.
He was the closest with Sunny, they spent the most time together, sometimes even holding hands. Maybe Sunny would let him cuddle. Basil really wanted to, he never knew when he would get another sleepover so he needed to act fast. But god was he nervous, his social skills were lacking in a lot of ways so he didn’t know if this was an appropriate thing to ask a friend. He was probably already asleep.
“Hey Sunny” he Whispered quietly, checking if he had fallen asleep. To Basil’s surprise the raven haired boy turned to him. Okay he was awake, there was no backing out now. He started to get flustered preparing himself to ask the question. “H-have you ever c-cuddled before”? Basil was sweating profusely.
“W-what” was Sunny’s response, he was clearly taken aback by Basil’s out of the blue question. Sunny’s voice sent a shock to Him as he heard it so rarely. “Have you e-ever cuddled before” repeating himself waiting for his response. “No,” Sunny said, his face getting red just like Basils. “Oh, i w-wonder what it's like?” Basil was sweating buckets; the fan was doing nothing to quell his heating body as his anxiety rose. The two boys looked at eachother, both of them not really knowing how to continue this conversation.
Sunny opened his mouth to say something but quickly closed it. Basil was sure he had messed up, now Sunny wouldn’t be his friend anymore, this wasn’t something you were supposed to ask a friend. “I’m sorry” Basil choked out, and Sunny could see tears form from the corners of his bright blue eyes.
“No no it's okay” Sunny was quick to reassure his best friend. He hated seeing him cry more than anything. “Don’t leave me okay, please” Basil was trying to keep his composure and not burst into a sobbing mess and wake everybody up. “I w-wont” Sunny said, he wasn’t really prepared to talk today so it was somewhat hard to come up with words. “Basil breathed in and out slowly to calm himself, his face still red from embarrassment and shame.
After Basil calmed down the room was once again silent. Sunny, still looking at Basil concerned, finally spoke again “do you w-want to?” Basil was utterly shocked, he thought that was the last thing he would say. “Basil perked up, his eyes widening, “really?”.
Sunny was also curious about what it felt like to cuddle someone. It was like hugging, he thought, and hugging felt nice. He liked hugging Basil so this was like a next step to that. “Sunny nodded his head, confirming his answer. Then he patted the side of his bed to invite him there.
Basil shakily got out of his sleeping bag, oh my god this was actually gonna happen. He was going to cuddle for the first time. Slowly, he made his way onto Sunny’s bed laying right next to him. They were both extremely flustered, both their hearts were beating out of their chests as they had never been this close with anybody before.
So Basil was the first to start, as he rolled his body towards Sunny and hugged him. It was like a regular hug only that they were lying down. He felt so very soft, his body was almost like a pillow. They both haven’t eased into yet, their minds still processing this new feeling. “Is this okay?” Basil stammered out. Sunny nodded and he continued hugging him.
Sunny didn’t know how to feel at first, was this what friends did? They both were on their sides clinging to each other. Sunny sweetly petted his hair, sending more comfort to the flustered flower boy.
They both started to ease into it more, feeling more relaxed as the seconds went by. Cuddling felt very nice, soft and warm, it was like hugging but better. Basil could hear Sunny’s heartbeat as his head was right next to his chest. “This feels really nice,” Basil whispered to the lovely boy he was hugging. Sunny hummed in response, his humming was like a kitten purring so cute!
Basil had never felt this comfortable in his life. He felt so safe with his best friend. Everything right now was so warm and he was very happy. Sunny went to continue to pet the boy, as almost on instinct Basil nuzzled his head into his chest. Sunny made small humming sounds as response to Basil’s small acts of affection.
Basil felt the petting of his hair start to slow down, and then it stopped and his hand was laying in his blonde hair. Sunny had fallen asleep, and Basil was starting to get very sleepy too. His best friend was softer than any pillow he had ever slept on. Sunny was truly the best, Someone Basil would do anything for.
Basil closed his eyes and went to sleep.
